Evening people, I haven’t posted on here for ages. If anyone remembers I am totally anti VAR.

From last night, a match I didn’t watch as I was coaching, I did however see the penalty/offside decision, offside no, but that’s the problem if the camera isn’t perpendicular to the last man, you can also get parallax error and with the low resolution it’s pointless. The penalty, unfortunately that’s the way the game has gone and would have been given for any team.

What does anoy me is the fact that the official that controls the game doesn’t make the decision and has to uphold someone else’s opinion, and that again is the other problem it’s still opinion based, whereas in Cricket with the other tools available to them it’s done on a matter of fact…..Pagan

NB, it wasn’t too bad at all in Derby yesterday, the snow didn’t start sticking until late evening, then it came down quite heavily overnight. Don’t think the Rams were overly bothered considering their current form and injury problems….Pagan

I was happy to debate it, not argue or throw petty insults (oops sorry, throw away comments) but alas it was not to be, still I suppose it was to much to ask from a 49 year old that uses phrases like “you’re wrong, end of”….Pagan

HH, if the ref blows, then the game stops at that point. The way VAR is currently used the defending team stands to benefit more from it, which is contrary to the “benefit of doubt should go to the attacking team” mantra peddled by the governing bodies.

I think come the end of the current trial, the FA need to sit down with both clubs and fans to see how best to go forward…..Pagan

HH, I’ve mentioned this before, it encourages players to ignore the whistle, and assistants not to flag as they can fall back on VAR to sort it out, yep currently it’s a mess….Pagan

So the ref gives a foul against a player and the player says “seriously ref if you think that your cracked” is that dissent or a throw away comment. You have one opinion, I have another….Pagan

HH, basic football, you play to the whistle, not the assistant’s flag

However, the interfering/not interfering with play is an odd one, if the players in you sight, then he interferes with your decision making. I’m not a fan of VAR, but if we have to have it, it needs to be for matters of fact, unfortunately some offside and handball decisions are opinion based so I’d go with the Stuart Pearce school of thought “if you’re offside you’re offside and if it hits your hand/arm it’s a handball….Pagan

The “now we want them unapproachable” bit seemed to suggest you were in favour of it.

See how easy it is to respond to something without relying on petty insults like “you’re cracked” I would suggest it’s that type of immediate response for something you don’t like is what causes all the problems on the pitch in the first place…..Pagan

Goat, I think you need to go and see some non professional/grass roots games, this confronting the ref doesn’t happen in cricket and rugby, yet it does in footy, and it’s the same kids playing, why? Because the kids see it on tv and therefore it’s acceptable.
Violence from players and parents to officials is commonplace and in at least one case in Holland a few years ago, resulted in the death of the linesman.

As you say, mic them up as in rugby, but in order to do that you can’t have Neanderthal foootballers Effing and blinding over the PA system as the refs tries to explain his reasoning.

The respect campaign needs to be a top down initiative, with offenders booked and sent off for it. I’m sure the refs would appreciate it but I doubt the FA would back them up when there are multiple sendings off, as usual the FA talk a good job, but deliver very little…Pagan

I mentioned this in another thread, we have a West Ham fan at work, so we made him a football themed Birthday card and put a picture of Dele Alli on it for a laugh, he does get a bit wound up about his footy at times so when he was away from his desk we put it out for him and waited to see what his reaction would be, trouble was it kept falling over….Pagan
