I’d like to see all the clubs in from round 1, the “league cup” may have to suffer to accommodate that, but it would spread a bit if revenue round and there’d be more giant killings, which when all said and done is what the early rounds of the cop are about….Pagan

Mr. Balance, if a player has three players round him that means you have two players unmarked, give the ball to them…..Pagan

Mikus, it doesn’t take much to bring a player down, well it does in rugby, and it does in Sunday morning footy on the parks. In either of those examples if you fell to the floor with the minimal contact we’re now seeing you’d be laughed off the pitch or cause a riot….Pagan

The top teams will always seem to have the greatest offenders when it comes to diving as being top teams they spend more time in and around the opposition Penalty area, not much point in taking a dive in your own penalty area…Pagan

Chuckles, I was going to include the verbals directed at the refs, for me they start gobbling off yellow, they continue, have another it’s bath time.
I spend a lot of time on the parks at football, Rugby, Cricket games, and the respect the refs/umpires gets varies between the sports, in rugby and cricket the ref/umpire gives a decision, right or wrong and the kids accept it, football even at young ages they start gobbing off, the thing is it’s the same kids that play in all three sports.
The reason is simple, it mirrors what happens in the professional game, so what do the FA do about it, they introduce the respect campaign bottom up, for some reason they think trying to get a twelve year old on the local park to show respect is going to feed up to the John Terry and Wayne Rooneys of this world….Pagan

Diving, to stamp it out it needs to have the buy in from all concerned in the game, The Clubs, The Coaches, The Players, The Pundits, The FA, The Leagues, The Referees, TV companies and the fans.
You can group the Club, Coahes and players together as diving or making the most of minimal contact has been coached in this country since at least the mid to late 70s to my knowledge. If it’s coached then it has to have an advantage to the club. The reward is greater than the punishment, so no buy in there.
Pundits, ex players and managers, they’ve been there and done it, would be hypocritical for them to condemn it, so they justify with phrases such as there was contact, he has a right to go down etc. So no buy in there.
The FA, the leagues and The Refs again can be grouped together, the refs don’t get the support off the FA or leagues as they are spineless when it comes to dealing with the clubs, you couldn’t possibly keep sending off the top players, so no buy in there.
TV, well it makes good viewing, a bit of controversy puts the viewing figures up, no buy in there.
The fans, the one group that wants to do something about it has zero power.
For me the only way it will change is if the FA grow a pair, make diving/simulation/exaggeration a straight red card offence with a sliding scale of suspension for repeat offenders both individual and club. Back the refs to the hilt, no climbing down, mistakes will be made but the game has brought it on itself so deal with it.
Give it a month of teams losing there top players and it will stop, however it needs to be enforced forever more not just a couple of weeks as most FA initiatives seem to be….Pagan

Chuckles, we are then faced with the choice when using VAR
There are going to be mistakes, but do you want the 50-50 ones to go in favour of the diver or not. It may need a few mistakes but it may be the only way to put an end to it….Pagan

Chuckles, yep it’s a tricky one diving, but it has to be made a red card offence, and if it’s clearly a dive on VAR then they’re off….Pagan

Adlab, I don’t want VAR, but we’re going to get it, so why not make diving a red card offence?…..Pagan

9, personally I don’t have a problem with what Sarri said, the players are quite happy to be lauded in public, so they have accept that commenting on their performance can be a double edged sword….Pagan

Mr. Mak, two great posts, when all said and done, we all want the same, we want our team to win the league and for others to say that “insert your team here” in the xxxx season played great football, and not have that achievement detracted from by accusations of cheating…..Pagan

9, I’m not saying it is a choice unless you start wanting changes to what we currently have, to drop into the FA Cup at round 5 would be a joke, win 4 games and you’ve won the cup.
If the teams that want an alternative league with changes to their domestic league, then that’s where they have to make a choice. An alternative to the CL in format only I don’t see as a problem.
As an aside it was quite amusing to see Ole at Man U saying how important the FA Cup was to them, wasn’t that important the year they didn’t play in it, I wouldn’t have let them back in the next few years if ever…Pagan

Got to feel a bit for Leicester, the fourth goal is everything that’s wrong with the offside law, the wolves goal scorer clearly in an offside position when the ball was played through to the winger, was deemed not to be offside as not interfering, but gained a massive advantage due to his positioning for the square ball…..Pagan

Chuckles, quite agree about the cups in some respects, the league cup should be optional or an U21 for the premier teams, the FA cup I’d like to see as all clubs in from round 1,
let’s see more prem teams going to the lower leagues and distributing the wealth a bit more…Pagan_____________________________

Mr Balance, that’s why I have less and less interest in prem footy, £4m or 3 to 5 months money for the top players…..Pagan

For me, what makes the domestic leagues in the UK so good is the atmosphere at the grounds, which is down to the easy access for away supporters, the countries are relatively small so travelling distance is relatively short.
I no longer go to prem matches, but do go to other matches, and love a relatively cheap away day.
I don’t really see the attraction in pricing more people out of watching footy, and the cost of following your chosen team home and away in a super league, which would have to be Europe wide, would curtail many from away trips and probably ruin the away day experience….Pagan_____________________________

Mr. Balance, the ref didn’t review the incident last night, he did as he was told, If we have to have VAR, then in my opinion he has to be the one reviewing the incident, that way all incidents within the game, reviews or not, should have some level of consistency….Pagan
