9, sorry if this comes across a bit thick, so if I was to buy a shirt from say sports direct, how does the club make any money on that? I can see how they make money on shirt sales and other merchandising through the official club shop.

The only other way they can make money is if they take a cut of what the manufacturer sells the product to the retailers……….Pagan

9, how do shirt sales work? Surely a club only makes money from the shirts sold from their club shop, and I would think the vast majority of shirts are bought from other retailers, and I can’t see there being any kickback from the manufacturers as they are already giving a fortune in sponsorship…….Pagan

Great stats 9, but you do realise that includes indoor rowing and that participation has dropped by over 200k in the last 4 years.
More telling is the fact that there are only approximately 32k members of rowing clubs in the uk.
Unless you go to a private school, one of the top universities or you have parents who row, then your exposure to rowing in your formative sporting years is nigh on zero.
Let’s spend the £24m a year on something kids can easily access at school or relatively cheaply in local clubs…..Pagan

Rowing, has the highest funding of the Olympic sports and probably one of the most difficult to access for kids, how many comprehensive schools have that as an option in PE. Maybe spend the money on easy access sports and get a bigger talent pool in those……Pagan

Disappointed is the word, not for not winning, but for the way we played. Sitting back and being cautious is one thing, not coming out of your own half is another, it’s not an individual at fault, it’s the teams, by the time Italy scored we’d forgotten how to go forward.

As for the penalties, you don’t expect to save two and still lose, but that’s pressure for you, I see it a lot in cricket where bowlers who go for 5 or 6 an over day in day out fall to pieces when the pressure is on at the end of a game and bowl wides and no balls and get tanked for 20.

Only admiration for anyone to step forward in last night’s situation, let’s hope they can take it in their stride…..Pagan

Last word on this, it’s about personal beliefs and integrity, to use another sport, if you played cricket and you knicked the ball and it was caught behind, some people walk, others pretend they haven’t hit it, it’s just which camp you want to be in………..Pagan
