9 I don’t think anyone denying the clubs that spend the most over the years have had success, I think the point Threeps & Sean is making is the levels city & chelsea took it to. I mean weren’t chelsea looking at going into administration or at least struggling badly, then along comes Roman & next thing they have bought pretty much the best players on the market with way inflated prices that no one else could get near. Same with city, it wasn’t just a gradual build up of players it was no limit spending for consecutive seasons that got those clubs so far ahead of everyone else. For whatever reason chelsea have slipped off the pace but city remain ahead of everyone else.
Threeps makes what I think is a pretty valid point in that FFP came in too late, city & chelsea had built squads no one can compete with & now with FFP no one can spend similar insane money so it’s a slow catch up. Liverpool have indeed spent massive money but also made good money on sales, selling our best player to fund a couple of excellent buys, hence pushing city all the way this season. Problem is city will now buy another couple of world class players & will keep them ahead of everyone else for the foreseeable future, their squad is just to big to compete with & Liverpool can’t afford to spend massive every season so we will stay just a step behind. The team I’m most impressed with is spurs, to be a solid 3rd in the EPL & in the C/L final whilst spending f all in comparison to rivals is a massive achievement. I just hope they don’t jump that last hurdle & win it, which I have a gut feeling they just might do.
Anyway that’s my 2 bobs worth, I think we all should just agree to disagree on this subject as it appears to me we are going round in circles.

Nil I won’t mention this subject again & I’m not repeating my opinions but you keep saying city’s success didn’t happen overnight & took years of building. It did indeed but we’re not talking about 50mil here & there, it was massive money season after season. All they needed then was a good manager to gel them & now they’ve got that. Did u see the spendings of each club someone put up not so long ago. From memory city had spent around a billion on players with everyone else way behind.
Anyway we are going around in circles, Basically I believe money is easily the most important thing these days & a lot of others don’t. As you say agree to disagree.

Sean if we don’t spend we will fall behind. You can’t compete with city without spending, it’s just how it is. They were so far ahead of everyone else so if you take into account they will buy quality again we just have to spend or we will fall further behind.

I agree Mak re manu but they could well be a sleeping giant with their financial muscle. Look at city, had all the money you could want but it took the appointment of Pep to bring everything together & make them the machine they are today. It only takes the right appointment at the top & they could well become a major force again. I just hope they continue to make bad decisions & stay below us.
Interesting one also with Sarri, from an outsider looking in you get the feeling they won’t get back challenging at the top with him in charge but I do think he’ll get the full season again baring a full on meltdown early next season. 9 would know better than me but it seemed a lot of their fans wanted him out not so long ago due to some odd decisions he was making with the team.
The advantage Liverpool and city have is stability at the top & obviously money to go with it. IMO Spurs are the main threat to another big gap at the top & if they get some depth they will be a major force. For me they are where Liverpool were a couple of season ago & just need a couple of smart buys but it’ll cost big bucks. Hopefully they can hang onto their top players & we can do the same so city will get pushed all the way again next season.

Chuckster I don’t like playing your mob & I genuinely believe if you get a bit of cash to spend you’ll be right up there challenging for titles. I certainly respect what you have done this season, amazing really when you think about your opponents. 9 is spot on, we have also spent a lot of money & lucky for us Klopp spent it pretty well. Hopefully you will look back at a season of exceeding expectation but unfortunately not winning anything. Damn that sounds like our lot for the last couple of seasons haha.

Nervously looking forward to this one, got to break the finals hoodoo sooner or later so hope it’s in this one. I honestly thought they got the better of us at Anfield & they certainly didn’t deserve to lose, however I’d like to think our lads will be pumped after getting so close in the EPL so I’m not sure what will happen. Hopefully we will see an open game with 2 teams going for it but I suspect it’ll be a cagey affair until someone scores. I just hope it doesn’t go to penalties or the ref plays a part. I’d really love to see us go full throttle as I honestly don’t think they could go with us but as I said I don’t think that’ll be the case. May the better team win.

Nil, I predicted they’ll win it again, for the same reasons I did when we were 7 points ahead half way through the season. Over the course of a season depth counts & they have more than anyone else. Pretty simple way of looking at it but it’s how I see it. Haven’t been too far off the mark the last 2 seasons with that theory. Good luck to em.

Mak, you don’t offend me bro, I get you don’t agree but I made my points. Yes we pushed them all the way but this is exactly what I meant by so close yet so far away, they might as well have won it by 10 points, it’s the same result. I asked a while ago who was more likely to drop points & no one said they were more likely. Could they have, hell yeah but at the end of the day they didn’t & we looked more likely to. Once again won the title. More depth would e helped in the draws mate, you know where Salah & co were off & we needed a winning goal, city had sane & Jesus as attacking players on the bench in the last game where they had to win, we have Sturridge & Shaq, massive difference in quality when looking for a goal. They bring off KDB & bring on Fernandinho, that’s the difference in depth I’m talking about.
We will not go another season losing only 1 game, I reckon I could guarantee that. I’ve no doubt they will strengthen again with more world class talent. Yeah we might as well but the likelihood of us repeating 97 points again is Buckley’s & zero. They’ve got this many twice in a row & they will again. It’s very predictable IMO & I know it’s not a popular opinion but it’s how I see it. I don’t get upset it’s just how sport is, the biggest spenders win the prizes. Sport is business now & is why I don’t invest too much time & energy into it. Good luck to the city lads, they’re good lads, they’ll once again say it could be different next season as they don’t want to appear arrogant but I think deep down they know their squad is better than anyone else & it’ll stay that way. All good mate, maybe you’ll be right & “next year” will be our year haha.

Nine it’s no coincidence the winning run for city came in the 2nd half of the season. Remember when LFC were top by 7 or whatever it was, people (you were one of them) saying Liverpool would win it. I said it wasn’t even half way through the season & city had far better depth than anyone & I still thought they’d win it. I got hammered, called negative whatever (doesn’t bother me 1 iota, I always say what I honestly think) yet some are now admitting squad depth was the main factor in their win. I said when you’ve got Sane & Jesus coming off the bench you’ve got it pretty good. It only took a few games where we were off & couldn’t get a win that they overtook us & it was game over.
Your on the money re next season, pep only has to buy a couple of top quality players, which he will, and they will remain at the top. No one can better them over a season & wont in the next couple at least. We won’t go a season losing only 1 again that’s for sure.
Pep has done well to mould the side but I don’t get the love affair with him some have, Leicester winning the EPL is an amazing feat, as is spurs getting to the C/L final (hopefully they won’t win it) but most expected city to win the title, the shock factor was it took till the last day to do it. Pep’s got more resources than an other manager could dream of so you’d expect him to go well.
Anyway my obvious tip is another city EPL next season.

Adlab, must admit mate I got a bit of a laugh reading the echo as the season rolled on. Every day was a different heading on why Liverpool have an advantage etc it was quite funny to read. You’ll have plenty to celebrate over the next couple of seasons mate, your squad is simply to big for anyone to compete with. Yeah we got close but we rode our luck on a few occasions (spurs & Everton just off the top of my head) & the only surprise was it took till the last day to wrap it up. We will never see LFC only lose 1 game in a season again but can definitely see your mob continuing to dominate. You only need to buy a couple of players to stay ahead of the rest & that’s what’ll happen. No sour grapes from me bud, it is what it is. Yourself, GJ & Brian are good fella’s so I genuinely hope you all enjoy it mate. Take care lads & don’t get into any trouble on the sauce.

Adlab you’ll be fine mate, if our side had KDB, Jesus & co on the bench I’d be extremely relaxed. You’ll dust them by 3 or 4, maybe even more, They are distinctly average. We could win 20-0 & it won’t matter a toss. I wouldn’t complain if we even had a draw, I could understand players minds being elsewhere as that is actually in our hands. Top 4 already finalised, top 2 done & dusted, nothing more to see here, I’m off to bed. Looking forward to the battle for the EPL spot though, that will be exciting, hoping to see Ellend road as a destination next season.

Mikus I find it no surprise when we had to go heavy metal v Barca they couldn’t go with us & we destroyed them. I know this could go on the unpopular thread but it’s literally our last game of the season & I’d love to see us all out go at them like we did Barca. Press high from the get go & go at them. I know we will go for a more balanced approach but I honestly don’t think they could go with us if we went heavy matal.

Wow my respect for this spurs outfit just grows & grows. City win the EPL & it’s no big deal or surprise but for this team that has spent nothing in comparison to rivals & has very little depth, has uncertainty with the manager & missed key players for large chunks of the season they’ve done an unbelievable job to be where they are. Like Sean I think they deserved to win at Anfield & I’d have much fathered play Ajax than them. I obviously hope we get to hold the trophy but wouldn’t begrudge them if they win it, they’ve certainly done it against the odds.

Anyone got Tay Tay’s number, WTF did I just watch, literally unbelievable. I’d say no one would’ve predicted that but a mate I work with said to me last night (Oz time) he thought we could do it. I said mate your on some good shit. He said “ haven’t you learnt yet, never underestimate Liverpool at Anfield”. I get a msg after the game saying “How good was that, I told you”.
I don’t know what to say, watching Klopp after the 1st leg & during the week believing the tie wasn’t over. I was thinking to myself yeah you’ve got to say that but he actually did believe & does believe.
HH you lucky SOAB, what an experience. I’d love to watch the replay a couple of times tonight but I’m taking the daughter on a 2hr drive to see some so called singer, Pat Malone or something like that.

Lads of course you have to spend well & since Koop came in LFC have done very well in that area. I’ve also said many times Pep has done well, I mean despite massive money spent manu are still average. The whole point is when money is no object you can buy the very best & it makes a managers job a hell of a lot easier, it’s not a level playing field. As for the human element & 11 v 11, again it’s the quality of the players.
If they ran a tennis tournament with teams & had Joker, Rafa & Fed in a team, the great majority of the time that trio would beat any other combination. Yeah they might not win every time but if it was over a season they’d comfortably win. This is the luxury city have, I certainly don’t believe they are all that, they’ve just spent more money to get the best players.
