Mak: yeah buddy that’s me, I did respond on the thread you asked but it was a bit later as I’m not on the forums as much as I used to be.
I agree with you mate, we’d have to be favourites but with LFC you just don’t know, we’ve capitulated from good positions many times & it’s made me never feel comfortable. If any team can take such an advantage & stuff it up it’s us. Their home record is awesome & after scoring 2 goals in a short time, just like West Bromwich the week before, they would take a lot of confidence from that.
TBH I’m more concerned about not getting top 4. Drop points v Stoke then Chelsea beat us, which with our injury crisis wouldn’t be surprising, & we are in trouble big time. We need top 4 if we are to progress. As Sean said it would not surprise me 1 bit if we finish 5th & don’t get C/L next season & that’s almost impossible to believe after some of the stuff we’ve put on this season._____________________________

27th April 2018 at 12:46 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #21033Nil I actually agree bud, I don’t think we are too far away from tasting some sort off success. We are awesome going forward & have strengthened at the back. A lack of quality in depth is probably our weakness but hopefully that will be rectified in the summer window.
I do hope your right & we get through & just as importantly snag that top 4 spot as that’s crucial to our progression.
Mak: no doubt we are in the box seat mate but I’m not ultra confident this tie is over. As I said they are very capable of scoring 3 or 4 & not conceding at their place. Hopefully we will get the job done after a good win on the weekend to ease the nerves a bit.
This fan safety is a big issue, crazy to think in this day & age this stuff still happens. They’ve done a great job in England to nullify this sort of behavior so hopefully all fans get home safely after the big game next week._____________________________

26th April 2018 at 10:24 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #21017Nil I dunno why you think that display v Barca was a 1 off, their home record is excellent this season & like Anfield their place is a cauldron. I bet Messi, Suarez & co thought they were sweet before that Q/F & fancied their chances of scoring.
I do think we could score but if they change their system to how it was when they scored a couple I wouldn’t put it past them to score 4, it’s not like we are solid at the back. Lovern is always a brain fart from costing a goal & despite his improvement Karius doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence. Let’s not forget they were all over us early at Anfield & with the crowd urging them on I just don’t think this tie is as close to over as others do.
That middle part of the game was unbelievable but instead of being safe we once again made it hard for ourselves. I suppose I’m a bit like Sean, after so many disappointments over the years I’m almost expecting the stuff up.
Hard to believe after so many good performances this season we still might not even be in the C/L next season. Ah well that’s football I suppose._____________________________

25th April 2018 at 10:07 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20951I actually predicted a 2-0 win for us & would have been more comfortable with that. Them bloody away goals scare the bejeezus outa me & seeing their home form & the clinical display they put on v Messi & co I’m not as confident as some are. I wish we bloody well hung on v West Brom so we could rest a couple for this EPL game, we are dropping like flies in a Mortein blizzard.

25th April 2018 at 7:27 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20926This tie is very far from over. With all the attack & genius of Messi & Suarez they couldn’t maintain a 3 goal advantage in Rome. If they only got 1 back I think we’d be safe but 2 away goals makes this a very tight encounter in Rome. I’m far from thinking we even have 1 foot in the final, it’s going to be a tough night there & with the never ending injury crisis we have top 4 is still a long way from guaranteed so we can’t really rest our top players if we want to secure that.

24th April 2018 at 12:21 pm in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20893Clean sheet will be the key for me if we are to progress. I think we can score at their place but a clean sheet at home will really be a massive leg up.

I might be biased but all things considered ie money spent, squad strength, improvement etc Klopp is one of if not the best manager around & we are very very lucky to have him.
Whilst my respect for Pep is very high, I couldn’t see him or many other managers taking on a “project” like Klopp did with LFC & take it from going nowhere to being on the brink of becoming 1 of the big boys again.
That said we need to finish top 4 & get C/L again or we will once again struggle to get the players required to improve like we want to. After so much positivity recently it’s hard to accept we might not even be in the C/L again next season._____________________________

I used to say Pep has only managed teams with the most money so he should win pretty much everything. That was until I watched a video on youtube about the tactics Klopp used against c$ty in the games we played them this season. It was awesome to see the game of chess being played between the 2. It showed how Klopp successfully used the press in a way to cut off supply to their main men in the middle whilst forcing them into pockets on the pitch & us having superior numbers at the same time. Truly amazing to watch the depth of the tactics used by Klopp.
Then it showed how Pep sussed out what Klopp was doing & changed their approach to try nullify it. It really made me respect both managers immensely.
Whilst it is true Pep has pretty much unlimited funds that not many, if any can match, he is also one very very smart cookie & it’s not just money alone that has c$ty so far ahead of everyone else in the EPL.
As I write this I see c$ty are favorites to sign Joghino (spelling), who LFC were closely linked to, I can’t see anyone competing with c$ty over the course of 38 games in the next couple of seasons._____________________________

I do agree about the poor calls, I don’t usually blame a ref for dropped points & all in all we should’ve put them to bed earlier but jeezus he was very very biased in their favor. I believe it did effect the result but as Sean said we’ve ad some lucky calls ourselves this season so can’t complain too much. Like I said the game should’ve been wrapped up earlier. Anyhow a couple of wins from guaranteed top 4 & another couple form another C/L final so still in a good position.

I don’t get the point your making Mak, just because they don’t get anything from taking points from us doesn’t mean they shouldn’t bother with the result. Your saying they should be commended for putting up a fight but because the result doesn’t really do anything in terms of where they will end up they shouldn’t have bothered. It doesn’t make sense to me, but then again I ain’t real bright I suppose.
Anyway we’ll agree to disagree._____________________________

Reverse the situation, we have no chance of top 4, we are playing a team that is still in the hunt & we play them at Anfield. We have nothing to play for, they do. Would we as fans just accept if the opposition went 2 up & our players just gave up. No bloody way, we’d be furious if the players didn’t give their all & try to win. They can go into the championship on the back of 2 excellent results against top 4 teams in the EPL. They showed a bit of fight & should be commended.
Whilst Klopps comments are correct in a way, the point does nothing for them, he didn’t seriously think they should just roll over & let us win did he. IMHO his comments are very disrespectful to West Brom & their fans & he got it wrong._____________________________

I was excited to see Ings & Solanke get a crack but their lack of game time is very evident & they haven’t really shown much. I know we don’t have our best team out but from what I’ve seen of Everton this season they have been very ordinary so I still thought we’d have too much for them. Still might but pretty dour game to be honest.

Mak in the poor performance side don’t forget Gini, he has a bit of a reputation from Newcastle as often being terrible in away games & lived up to that here. As Sean said that was a massive win & whilst we probably didn’t really deserve it it’s a massive 3 points for us.
Like others I just can’t grasp what Klopp sees in Henderson. I think he is an extremely limited player that goes missing more often than not, esp when we need him to step up. Klopp saying he will remain captain is truly baffling to me, he’s a very average player & certainly not someone I look to as a leader when the going gets tough. Anyway Klopp obviously sees something in him._____________________________

Brian Blue, being honest mate we aren’t really up to World standards but as you say could well get there. Football has one of if not the highest participation rate of juniors for any sport in the Country these days so we could get there. At the moment though I’m looking at some of the Countries that are a lot better and they aren’t involved it sort of dulls down the quality of the cup if you know what I’m saying.

My Oz lads are lucky to be there. IMO the World Cup should be played between the best Countries in the World & our lot are nowhere near good enough to compete at that level. I get trying to promote the game etc but but as a spectacle you want to see the best teams playing & considering some Countries not involved I think us Aussies are lucky to be there. Hopefully they prove me wrong but I doubt it, we just don’t have the talent.

I just had the weekend in Darling Harbour, catching the ferry over to Circular Quay then on to Manly beach where there was 4-6 ft surf on a 32 degree day.
I then had an early start the next day to go climb the Harbour Bridge & whilst it was a bit breezy up there on top it was bloody awesome.
Next week I’m taking the jet ski down to the beautiful Hyams beach for some fun with the kids.
In May I’ll be doing a road trip up to the Gold coast with a couple of mates on a boys surfing trip where choosing between Snapper rocks, Burleigh heads or Coolangatta as the best surf spot my only stress.
Oz rocks, yeah baby._____________________________

Yes, Liverpool have finally made another signing, 17 year old Curtis Jones, a real prospect apparently. WooHoo here’s hoping we can turn him into a worldie so we can sell him & make lots of money.

Problem I see is Klopp still thinks he’s the Bundesliga where you only have to finish above 1 team to win the title & C/L is pretty much guaranteed if your a decent team. Sadly in the EPL there’s at least 6 teams genuinely fighting for 4 C/L spots so you can’t take massive risks like letting your main play maker go mid season without replacing him.
This is just so typical of Liverpool, we start turning the corner and things begin to look positive, then it’s like “whoo hang on a minute we are actually progressing, better do something about that, lets sell our play maker and see if we can continue to progress”. Meanwhile all our direct rivals are strengthening in their persuit of C/L football.
We are Liverpool la la la we’re the dumbest football club in the land, yes we are._____________________________
