Interesting Chelsea team perhaps with AM/the forthcoming games in mind no Hazard, Cahill or Fabregas all on the bench. Bakayoko and Kante as the midfield two makes sense though against a physically strong team like Stoke who always give you a difficult game especially at the Brittania.

Nicely built 1st goal from Spurs but a schoolboy error from Carroll which conceded the possesion. Aurier looking a bit shaky at times.
Can’t be long before Bilic gets the sack 3 nil now with Eriksen unmarked on the edge of the area could get a lot worse for West Ham yet.

Corals offering odds of 25/1 on a Liverpool win over Leicester to new customers which seems remarkably generous, I think Liverpool will come back strong in this game.
I’m almost tempted.?

West Ham play 4 Cup Finals every season v Spurs and Chelsea those are the games that their fans and players are most up for.
Never easy to predict a London Derby but Spurs are clearly favourites.
Klopp cites the good start the Manchester clubs have made for putting more pressure on Liverpool?

City with one eye on the Shaktar game could be to Palace’s advantage which could keep it under 5 .?

I could never understand Chelsea’s desire to sign the Ox at £35/40m and Barkley at £35m when both players would be available on a free transfer next summer.
Always seemed bonkers to me even if both players were home grown. Just on that parameter alone I think Chelsea dodged two bullets there.

I guess scoring 59 goals in 129 games despite all of the problems that surrounded him kept Costa’s value up in a transfer market that is bonkers anyway.
Costa never settled in England and always hankered for a return to Spain almost from the second day of him being at Chelsea so to almost double your money on a player who will be 29 in a few weeks time, only had circa 18 months left on his contract and was continuously problematical is a very good deal but Costa will fit back in at Atletico seamlessly and if he can score 59 goals in 129 games for Chelsea he will score bags of goals for Atletico.
So everyone’s a winner with this transfer even the PL opposition fans who somewhat understandably hated him.?

Ed, difficult to knock the negotiating expertise on sales out but both Marina and Emenalo have taken a lot of stick on sales in particularly this Summer.
But over £50m from a player who will be 29 in as couple of weeks time who only wanted to go to Atletico and was more than a tad problematical is a very good deal imo.
He had to go given all of the problems that have surrounded him and Conte wasn’t going to take his nonsense any more after his shenanigans in January.
I understand why opposition fans didn’t like him even I didn’t like Costa at times but when his head was right there were few who could match him in leading the line and he was player who played a major part in Chelsea’s last two PL title wins.
If both Chelsea and Atletico make it out of the Group stages and into the last 8 of the CL what’s the betting that they get drawn against each other and Costa scores the winning goal that knocks Chelsea out.?

Over £50m for Costa puts Chelsea on almost break even on transfer dealings even without the Oscar money.
Part of me is sad to see Costa go because when his head was right he was almost unplayable but on the odd occasion ? when his head wasn’t right he was a pain in the Arsenal, but he helped Chelsea to win two PL titles and the League Cup with his goals and Chelsea sold him back to Atletico Madrid for a profit.

Mikus, you’re not far away mate from being a genuine and regular challenger for the PL title imo.
I don’t buy the history bit affecting players at all it hasn’t affected Mane or Coutinho and it doesn’t look like it’s effected Salah or Firmino either good players will thrive in the right environment and won’t be weighed down by what as achieved in the past.
History is just that history and it’s the here and now that counts now no matter the club.

Mikus, all great points mate although providing funds to spend on transfers over and above the revenues the club creates is very difficult nigh impossible now days under FFP and in fairness to FSG they’ve always made it clear that Liverpool are an investment and they won’t throw their own money at it even if they could.
Seemingly there were funds available this summer hence the bid for VVD, and securing Keita for next season was a good move and both players once secured will definitely help the defensive issues.
I’m not sure just securing players will solve all of Liverpool’s defensive problems though as I said philosophy, defensive organisation and defensive Coaching all play a major part.
Tbh I would quite like to see Klopp’s philosophy of if you score 2 or 3 goals we will score 3 or 4 work but it didn’t work for Keegan at Newcastle and such is the competition now in the PL it’s difficult to see it working now.
Also like you and many other Liverpool fans I think Liverpool also need a striker capable of delivering 20 goals a season I think Klopp and probably the owners were hoping that Sturridge would be that player and he probably would have been were it not for the injuries. Cheers 999

Mikus, I understand the frustration of fans who see little to no involvement from their owners in the club including attending matches which imo should be the minimum expectation of an owner.
VVD was a major Liverpool target this summer but for various reasons that transfer didn’t happen but of the circa £85m spent by Klopp this summer £77m of that was spent on attacking players and that’s a consistent theme throughout all of the transfer windows since Klopp joined the club.

Oz, all good points mate perhaps Klopp’s biggest problems are in his philosophy to attack over defence and his commitment and his ability in defensive Coaching and in organising his defence.
Throwing new players at the problem will help but it’s the underlying problems that rest purely with Klopp that need to be addressed which go all the way back to Brendan Rodgers and worryingly have been there throughout Klopp’s two year tenure and haven’t been solved either on the training ground or in any of the transfer windows available to him.
How many of Liverpool’s Goalkeepers and back four would get in to any of the other teams in the top 6? Very very few I would suggest.
Klopp will need to overcome the problems in para one before the questions being asked switch from the fans and the media asking the questions to the owners asking the questions assuming the owners aren’t asking the questions already.
