14th November 2017 at 1:24 pm in reply to: England V Brazil – Tuesday 8pm / Italy fail to qualify for the World Cup #7439
Looking forward to this one I hope Southgate keeps faith with some of the youngsters.
As Southgate went out of his way to say how could he select Wilshere for England when he wasn’t playing regularly for Arsenal seemingly gives him a problem if he gives Solanke a chance tonight as he’s only started one League Cup game for Liverpool so far?
You can’t have one rule for one and then not apply it across all as it smacks of double standards having said that I would like to see Solanke given a run out tonight.
Shame about Italy I would have liked to see them qualify.

11th November 2017 at 1:45 pm in reply to: England V Germany – Friday 8pm – VAR to be introduced at Wembley! #7425ppt, yeah I wrongly missed Trippier off the positive list like you I thought he looked very good last night. Plenty of positives to be taken into the next game v Brazil.

11th November 2017 at 12:32 pm in reply to: England V Germany – Friday 8pm – VAR to be introduced at Wembley! #7420Jim, tbh I think it was an interesting game and Pickford and Loftus Cheek stood out and I suspect that Southgate probably learnt more from playing that team with some up and coming youngsters than playing Germany with all the usual suspects.
Personally I find it refreshing that Southgate is prepared to give some of young players an opportunity and that’s the benefit of him having spent 3 years as the U 21 Manager.
There’s a lot of talent in the young England teams and there’s one or two more who are worth having a look at too.
From a Man City perspective I thought Stones was excellent and that Sane looked the most dangerous forward on the pitch and only the underside of the bar stopped him scoring.
But don’t take my word for it here’s what the Independent said: ?
“Wembley witnessed England’s most entertaining performance in months as Southgate handed five players their senior bow against world champions Germany”I’m quite looking forward to the Brazil game now. Cheers 999

10th November 2017 at 10:06 pm in reply to: England V Germany – Friday 8pm – VAR to be introduced at Wembley! #7417Impressive debut from RLC he might well have booked himself a place on the plane to Russia on the back of that performance.

Brian, the PL title odds are generated by results and the money invested by punters it’s got absolutely nothing to do with the Bookies talking City up.

If Sanchez goes in January which seems likely I think it will be to City if not he could sign for a top European club perhaps PSG on a pre contract free in January.

Mikus, I don’t think too many would have voted for Southgate to be England Manager but the FA put the constraint on and England Manager having to be English and we sacked Roy and By Sam so Southgate was almost last man standing.
I thought the last squad Southgate named was exciting and it’s a shame it’s been decimated by injuries but t will give Southgate a chance to look at options and a few weeks back when Winks was struggling to start from Spurs who would have named him as one of the Squad for Russia.
Sadly everyone has a bit of a jaundiced view of England now bought about by years of disappointments and the CL has been all consuming for the fans of the top 5/6 PL teams.
I truly hope that Southgate finds a few between now and the Summer and the England team put up a bit of a performance in Russia and don’t drop out in the Group stages but I’m not holding my breath.?

I don’t think it makes sense for England to go into a World Cup without playing games leading up to the tournament and it’s not as if England are the only international team in the World to be playing friendlies this week all international teams are doing it.
Football has to be broader than just the clubs we support imho.

Perhaps this City side aren’t after all as good as everyone thinks they are.
Just joshing.? It’s probably the best City side you guys have ever seen and certainly one of the best possibly the best team of the PL era.

Jim, wasn’t it 1995/96 – Man Utd come from 12 points back to claim the Premier League from Newcastle and 1997/98 – Arsenal pip United despite a 12-point head-start.
Way to go yet Chelsea to go on a 13 match winning run yet.?

maverick, probably but I suspect neither Big Sam or WHU wanted to go back.
Also Big Sam seems in line for the Everton job who are potentially a much bigger fish than WHU.

West Ham appointing Moyes has more to do with who was available with PL experience than anything else imo and currently he’s only there until the end of the season.

Ed, in a poll of West Ham fans totally over 5,000 respondents 90% didn’t want Moyes.
If things don’t turn around quickly the fans are likely to very quickly turn on Moyes in a way they didn’t with Bilic because he was one of their own.

Jim, the Conte text to Costa was foolish but it was confirmation of an agreement reached in the previous January between Costa, his Agent, the club and Conte that he would move on in the summer. Shades of SAF though outing players that are problematical and tbh I’m with him on it. Cheers 999

Rob, your guess is as good as mine mate but the summer transfer window was very disjointed.
Too many cooks spoil the broth? Plus a touch of “palpable discord” ? 🙂
