Personally I think it’s very difficult to compare teams from different eras and claim that one or other of them is the best team of all time.
I’ve only ever seen black and white footage of the “Busby Babes” but a lot of people think had it not been for the tragedy of Munich that team very possibly could have been the best team of all time.
Sadly that team never got to realise it’s potential.
In the here and now City look to be a wonderful team who are likely to only get better but to truly confirm themselves as a truly great team they probably need to dominate and win the Champions League and you wouldn’t bet against it perhaps even this season doubling it up with the PL title.

Ok Jim point taken.
I hate City and that Pep Guardiola who only manages big sides with big budgets.
Lets see how good Pep would be managing Swansea with their budget.???
Just joshing mate, I’m a footie fan first and a Chelsea fan second and I had the same problems when admiring the Liverpool side of the late 80’s, the United side of the 90’s and the Arsenal invincibles.?

City are certainly one of the best PL sides I’ve seen and I always look forward to watching their live games.
But as always beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
City are my guilty pleasure though.?
And I am a massive fan of that little genius David Silva. I always wanted Chelsea to sign him when he was at Valencia but he’s hitting even greater heights now.

Jim, they won’t review decisions that have been seen by the Ref and a yellow card awarded.
Like you I thought the retrospective action on Lanzini for a dive was correct.
But the only reviews allowed currently as I understand it is a red card offence not spotted by the Ref and a dive. Cheers 999

cm, City though are 13 points better off than at the same stage last season and have scored 21 goals more.
However you cut it mate and you can sometimes make stats say what you want them to say the football City are serving up is some of the best football I’ve seen in the PL and City might well break all previous PL records the majority of which are held by Chelsea.
As I touched upon and as the Ed has added to I think we might well be entering a period of domination in the PL from City that we’ve not seen since the best Fergie years.

City are currently 6 points better off and have scored 16 goals more compared to Chelsea at the same point last season a season where Chelsea went on to claim at 30 the most wins in a PL season.

“Real president Florentino Perez has made it clear that the club will undertake a very ambitious transfer campaign next summer, after recent attempts to strengthen the squad have ended in failure.
Perez was not pleased with the business the La Liga giants did last summer and is determined that the same mistake does not happen again, according to the report on Calciomercato.”

I don’t think the performances of this City team this season can be diminished with the suggestion that it’s a weak PL.
For sure Chelsea are currently running behind their last season’s points total at the same stage but even if Chelsea were on the same points total as last season City would still be comfortably ahead.
For me City are a very special team alongside other special teams in history at United, Liverpool and the Spurs team of the early 60’s. City have beaten all the top 5 club’s now whether at home or away some quite comfortably we’ve already seen a 129 year win record shattered by City and I suspect other records will fall to this City side this season.
City are not only massive odds on favourites for the PL but also short priced favourites for the CL too winning the quadruple which includes the CL as well as going completely unbeaten in the PL might be a bridge a tad too far though even for this City team.
But worryingly for the rest of us particularly if Pep signs a new contract and City continue to spend as they have given the strength of their current squad we could all be chasing them for a long time and if the CL trophy doesn’t arrive this season it can only be a matter of time imo.

Just for the sake of accuracy here’s what I actually said after Spurs beat Real in the CL which was consistent with the vast majority of the match reports and pundits:
“Not wishing to take anything away from a great Spurs win but that was the worst performance that Iβve seen from a Real team in quite some time and reveals how Real ended up getting beaten by recently promoted Girona at the weekend.
Acknowledging that Real have a few injuries I canβt currently see Real getting anywhere near defending the CL or La Liga titles. The team is aging and needs investment imo.”

c.m., good to see you back on here posting mate but accurate or not the above seems a tad provocative for a first post to me.
There’s a good bunch of lads on here though and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Cheers 999

banjo, just for the record since the last time Spurs appeared in an FA Cup Final in 1991 Chelsea have won 6 FA Cups, 5 League titles, 1 European Cup Winners Cup, 1 European Super Cup, 1 Champions League and 1 Europa League.
And 5 Major trophies were won in the 6 years before Abramovich even arrived.
That’s a long 20 minutes and living where you do I thought you would be a bit more aware of “Don’t Skate on thin Ice”!?
We could continue to be silly but seeing as this is billed as a sensible football site probably best we leave it there now.

Tbh Mo wouldn’t have been my choice I would have gone for Joshua but the way it works is that a panel of Sporting experts decide on the nominations and then the viewers vote on it.

What do you call a Spurs fan who has seen Spurs win a League title? Great Grandad.
What do you call a Spurs fan who has seen Spurs win the FA Cup? Middle aged.
What do you call a Spurs fan who has seen Spurs win the Champions League? Still a twinkle in their Fathers eye. ?

Jim, I thought your original point was a very good one.
Re video reffing it has to be handled carefully imo because as Pagan says without if is in danger of over extending the game personally I would limit it to penalty claims and offside decisions re goals.
In respect of retrospective action I wouldn’t extend it past red cards missed involving dangerous tackles and retrospective action for diving. Games shouldn’t be retrospectively re reffed imo.
In terms of after match interviews with the Managers that’s tied into all the money the TV companies pay the club’s and the PL and who pays the Piper calls the tune.
However the immediate interviews of Managers after games are always likely to get an emotional reaction especially the key issues that might have cost a Manager points the only way to solve it is to hold those interviews back to perhaps an hour after the game but that won’t suit the TV companies and overall we might lose more than we gain.
