Thoroughly enjoyable game for the neutral but some really woeful defending and goalkeeping.

Pagan, VR is all still embryonic mate we will have to wait and see how it develops if indeed it does develop and how it’s going to be used.

If it does develop I suspect it will revolve around penalty decisions yes or no goals scored off side or not everything else will fall under the jurisdiction of the match officials.

Pagan, presumably disputed offside goals would go to the Video Ref for his decision as they do in Rugby the downside of the Video Ref is that it will always hold the game up for a minute or two prior to the decision being taken.

That’s why it couldn’t go any further than offside goals and penalties.

The hold up in play compromise for getting the decisions right and we still have to ascertain how far the football authorities are prepared to go with it which is still open to conjecture. Cheers 999

We’ve got goal line technology that is working, we’ve got retrospective action for diving which isn’t work 100% yet but can get close to that with a bit of tweaking and the Video Ref is bring trialled and won’t be far away but it won’t go further than offside goals and penalty claims.

The Football authorities will go no further than that imo and there is understandably a reluctance to undermine the man in the middle and re Ref games and importantly as Pagan has said games can’t run for 2 hours.

I don’t know who on here have had a go at Referring but it’s not easy and it’s very easy for Armchair critics to criticise a Refs decision when we’ve seen the Slow Mo’s and re runs they don’t see and they have to make their decision in seconds.

Gerrard in his autobiography confirms he dived to win penalties etc. But we should be looking forwards not backwards.

I think we need to judge the success of the newly introduced retrospective bans for diving at the end of the season currently there are clearly teething problems.

Appointing a panel for the season would provide greater consistency and moving to majority decision would ensure the likes of Gray would be unlikely to escape punishment.

Very impassioned Pagan but it won’t happen mate and it would have to go right the way across football which would include FIFA and UEFA competitions too.

If we had one panel for continuity and majority decisions Gray would have been banned it’s that simple.

I definitely don’t agree with any points deductions for diving that’s a significant step too far.

It’s not something I can see happening anyway.

The fix on players escaping action for diving having been cited is an easy one have one panel to look at all alleged diving across the whole season because you won’t get consistency from different people looking at different situations.

As I understand it the panel voted 2 to 1 in favour of Gray being guilty of diving so just change unanimous to majority and its job done and have the same review panel for the season to ensure consistency.

Jim, I think they have to go for a majority decision on diving all this “all three of the panel have to agree” let Gray off even though he was charged with diving v City.
