Paul, I think it was still in place but looser under Mourinho but Emenalo was already in place as Sporting Director and he offered to resign with Mourinho coming in.
As CM has said don’t forget Mourinho sold Salah and KDB and allegedly told the club not to put a buy back clause into Lukaku’s move to Everton because he wouldn’t want him back.
I can see it from both sides and think Conte should have a bit more of a say but can also understand with managerial contracts never going past three years at Chelsea the club are nervous about giving any Manager full control of transfers in and out. Cheers 999

Sean, Arsenal have no power in this transfer Sanchez will go where he wants because he only has a few months left on his contract and because of that Arsenal aren’t in a position to say we won’t sell him to a rival because it will potentially cost them £35m and Sanchez can move there on a free in the Summer anyway.

Mourinho wont care about that though Mark he only cares about winning trophies and that’s what he’s judged on.
Also it might be a short term signing but over the next 2/3 years Sanchez may well win a PL title or the CL for United and Mourinho sticks it to City too.
It’s a classic Mourinho transfer and if Sanchez signs for United Mourinho will be very very talkative in his next few press conferences.?

Arsenal look to have too much to do now and one of the top 5 will also miss out. It’s going to be interesting and the January transfer market might well play a part.

ppt, Chelsea don’t give a Manager full say on transfers and run with a Sporting Director primarily because the average life of a Manager even a title winning Manager at Chelsea rightly or wrongly is only 2 to 3 years.

Chelseaman, Isco is contracted until 2022 and Asensio until 2023 I would have either or both? but I think it will be simpler to get Asensio over Isco and Asensio has already said he wants to go if Hazard arrives.
I’m still relying on Zidane getting the tin tack which might scupper any deal for Hazard.?

Sean, I would say at least that possibly with Asensio as part of the deal.
As Maverick rightly says Hazard grew up supporting Real and his hero was Zidane and he would like to be coached by him and at 27 if he doesn’t move in the Summer it will be probably be too late for him.
But if Zidane gets the white handkerchiefs as well he might given Real’s current plight we might see a different outcome.

CMan, I’m with you there the Chelsea site is still active as are the United and Liverpool sites the problems on Teamtalk stemmed from the ownership issues with all the knock ons from that and now there are just 3 editorial staff running a site that was run previously by 7 editorial staff which was bound to have an effect.
Obviously Teamtalk still has a place in some people’s hearts otherwise there wouldn’t be 7 pages to this thread. ?

Sean, the problems really sit at the feet of Kroenke who only cares what the return on investment is and the Arsenal Board both of whom have given Wenger far too much power at the club.
Kroenke and the Board should have insisted Sanchez was sold two years back when he refused to commit himself to the club when the club could have got the highest price for him.
As much as I hope Hazard stays at Chelsea if he hasn’t signed a new contract before July 1st he sadly should be sold to the highest bidder.

Good point Sean except Sanchez wants out and Arsenal getting a CL place are long odds they are 8 points behind Chelsea in 4th spot ostensibly 9 with goal difference.
Arsenal are a business and £35m now for Sanchez given all the factors makes sense to me. But it should never have come to this.
It’s appalling management by Wenger and the Arsenal Board.

As the Ed said Wilshere looked very exciting when he broke into the Arsenal side.
Injuries some serious have robbed him of that potential and he’s now got his head down and is looking to comeback to the top level injury free.
Time will be his judge but an injury free in form Wilshere would be an asset to England in Russia imo.

Sean this problem goes back almost two years if you let players run their contracts down this is what happens better Arsenal get £35m for Sanchez now than he walks out on a free next Summer.

Be interesting to see how City react to this defeat some may think that this defeat by Liverpool might impact on their drive for the title more likely though imo is that they’ve got a monkey off their back with all of this invincible talk and they’ll have the title wrapped up by April.
Still think they need David Silva back in the team as quickly as possible which is not so easy with his family problems.

14th January 2018 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Wayne Clarke 1987 – Ending Liverpool's 29 unbeaten run of League games #12451Nil I thought Liverpool were terrific today and I can’t pay them a bigger compliment than to say at times Liverpool made City look quite ordinary but terrible defending by City massively contributed to their down fall today.
I don’t think Father Christmas was ever in danger of being called upon to give Meghan Markie away though.?
As satisfying as it was to beat City there are no extra points for beating City or ending their run and at the end of the season I’m sure it will still be City lifting the PL trophy.
