Jim, I’ve been impressed with Zinchenko when I’ve seen him.

20th January 2018 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Sanchez: layed all eggs in one Basket – Fundamental problem in English Football #13223Based on Nils point though which is a good one had Liverpool invested and nurtured someone from their own Academy then they wouldnβt need a ” Van Dijk”.
I don’t think Chelsea needed Van Dijk because of Christensen who has been developed at Chelsea since he joined them aged 15 and he has been outstanding this season and will only get better and has probably saved Chelsea a significant future transfer fee.
I don’t criticise Liverpool for buying Van Dijk he’s a top player and a great centre back.
Of course we would all prefer to see Academy players coming through from the Academies to first teams but it’s a tough thing to achieve at the top clubs Steve Gerrard in No Hunger in Paradise highlighted how difficult it is for kids to make it from Academy to first team regular.

“Sanchez is proven in the pl and is world class. Iβve no doubt he will be a huge success and hit the ground running.”
The above from Sean sums it up nicely imo.

Jim, agree with all that but Mourinho will think with Sanchez in the United team his they have got a real chance of winning the CL had United not moved for Sanchez now they may not have got him next Summer whether on a free or not. Sanchez imo will definitely secure United 2nd place too and from there Mourinho will think that can be a launchpad for a title win next season plus signing Sanchez may well encourage one or two other big names to come to United.

Putting Chelsea to one side I expect the main protagonists for the title next season will be City, United and Liverpool.
Sanchez is a great buy for United a typical Mourinho buy because he’s ready made and Mourinho will spend big again in the Summer.
City under Pep have been head and shoulders above everyone else this season and will spend big again in the Summer for sure but I think they will face a tougher task next season.
Liverpool are really beginning to take shape imo VVD is already there and will be well bedded in by next season Keita is coming and if the sign a quality Keeper and a replacement for Can I think Liverpool will be right up there challenging for the title next season their problem may be that their squad won’t go as deep as either City’s or United’s.

True enough mate but swap Liverpool for Chelsea and Drinkwater for Van Dijk.?

Jim, I have to admit it’s a strange one.
But didn’t also come down to City not bring prepared to pay Arsenal more than Β£20m for him whilst United were prepared to pay Arsenal Β£35m for Sanchez?

Jim, just out of interest would Sanchez still have been a greedy $hit if he had accepted City’s very generous offer??

Nil@8:21pm I wish mate Chelsea are now on the same points that Leicester were in their title winning season after the same number of games and still trail City by 15 points. B******s!?

Nil, it will last as long as it takes City to wrap it up with more points than anyone else chasing them can muster over the number of games left.
For anyone to catch City they will have to lose 4 more games and with just 14 games to go they would have to lose almost a third of their remaining PL games it’s not going to happen mate and it might well be done and dusted by April which would allow City to potentially focus on the CL.
Good luck to them they will deserve it because bar some kamikaze defending at Liverpool last Sunday they’ve been the best team in the PL by a country mile. Also their fans on here are all top lads and remain grounded about their season when they might well have got more carried away.
Having said that I suspect all but the City fans would like to see the title race go down to the wire it’s always the best way in a title race unfortunately though it’s not going to happen this season.

Love the Cricket. Cheers 999

Jim, ha,ha, true enough mate but I’ve seen almost all of his games this season and the vast majority have been good and a number have been brilliant.
To be honest with you he would grace any team even yours.?

Another disappointing performance from Hazard.?
“It’s a wonderful goal. Eden Hazard has such speed as well as control and right from the start he has been the kingpin. He even puts two Brighton players on their backsides as he scores the goal – he’s been such a huge contributor for Chelsea in this game.” David Pleat.

20th January 2018 at 11:16 am in reply to: Sanchez: layed all eggs in one Basket – Fundamental problem in English Football #13115Nil, what you describe is a utopian world where teams are made up of primarily British players and where British Managers manage those teams but rightly or wrongly it’s not like that anymore the top 6 clubs are managed by foreign Managers because they are better than any British Managers available and 9 of Liverpool’s players who started v City were foreign as we’re 7 of City’s players and that’s because in the main the foreign players offer greater value for money and the majority are better than their British counterparts.
“Why are people drooling over Sanchez”?
It is because in a very small pond with very few tasty fish swimming in that pond of Sanchez’s level he’s one of the best possible players available in his position which is why pretty much all of the top clubs in the PL wanted to sign Sanchez albeit the deal was too rich for the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool and Arsenal wanted to keep him.
As Pagan rightly says we have foreign owners, foreign Managers, foreign players and the PL is watched all very the world with the world wide audience being substantially bigger than the UK audience and it’s never going to go back to the way it was.
Overall the product is better than it ever was but from an England team viewpoint it would be nice to think that we would get one or two more top English talents coming through of the caliber of Harry Kane.
But why pick on Sanchez when a few weeks ago Liverpool fans quite rightly were drooling over the signing of Virgil Van Dyke signed for Β£75m and a record fee for a defender. Why did Liverpool for instance not buy Michael Keane in the Summer for Β£25m instead of chasing Van Dijk.
All club’s quite rightly look to buy the best players available to them within the budgets that they have available to them no matter where they come from which is what United have done with Sanchez and it will almost certainly make them a better team.
All of which has made the Premier League the exciting League it is today.
