Football can only carry on with effective Policing and games will only be postponed where that can’t be provided and purely for the sake of safety.
This is an exceptional time.

Lucky, the Army are already involved see below:
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley said “We are going to be putting thousands of officers into this because of the level of security required and the millions of people whom want to pay their respects.”
The Queen will lie in state at Westminster Hall ahead of her funeral on 19 September.
Number 10 said the Army will be “on hand” to assist alongside the “significant” police operation, with 1,500 military personnel available.
Scotland Yard’s new commissioner says the Queen’s funeral presents “a massive challenge to the Metropolitan Police and to me personally”.

We will get a clearer picture today about the impact on next weekends fixtures with meetings scheduled to take place between the Police and Clubs re next weekends fixtures.
The games in London next weekend are in most jeopardy of postponement but Police are having to be drawn from all over the country in order to cope with the number of people coming into London ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday so there’s a possibility that the postponement of games could go further than just the London games with Police having to be drafted into London from other areas of the Country to cope with the crowds.

Sean, “At a meeting on Friday, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekendβs Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday eveningβs game.” It was decided by the Club’s at that meeting buddie.

With the route of the Queen’s cortege passing through the various town’s on it’s route to Edinburgh the people of Scotland have lined the route in their thousands to pay their respects to the Queen.
The Queen loved Scotland and the people of Scotland loved her back.

Sean, but the decision to cancel this weekends games was taken by the Club’s themselves.
It’s all done and dusted now though and football starts again on Tuesday albeit the London based games maybe lost next weekend due to the Policing issues.

Nil, it’s one weekend of games and probably a handful of games in London next weekend because of Policing issues.
Football recommences from Tuesday.

Lucky@4:34pm: Lucky, key part of the statement below.
“It will be a state funeral so it’ll be an enormous national and international event which will take a lot of resourcing and a lot of those resources may be needed for sporting events.
In this case, The Queen’s funeral takes enormous precedence.”
I think football will restart next week but what’s on and off might be a bit hit and miss because of Policing issues.

As Lucky said earlier “The games are off and thatβs the end of it.” It’s what happens from here that will be interesting.
It seems likely all of the European games will go ahead in midweek. In respect of next weekends PL games he PL has left that open in their statement of “Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.”
I think next weekends games will likely go ahead depending on Policing requirements for London being one/two days before the Queen’s funeral with the Queen laying in State in Westminster Abbey and many people wanting to pay their last respects to her which will require added Policing.
I can see at least the games in London being under threat of further postponement because of Policing requirements around London which would include the Chelsea v Liverpool game next Sunday unfortunately.

Confirmed:
“The Premier League and English Football League have postponed this weekend’s round of fixtures following the Queen’s death on Thursday.
The news comes after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday, with the country now in a state of national mourning.
In a statement, the Premier League said: “At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.
Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, said: “We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country.
“As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.
“This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing.”

There will be a desire by the PL to show respect to the Queen any postponement has to be agreed by the Club’s.
Personally I think the games should be postponed the problem is once postponed how does the Premier League fit the rescheduled games into an already jam packed schedule because of the World Cup.
I hope and think they will be personally I’ve got no appetite for football at the moment.
