Rover, these are very highly paid professional players none are paid more than Ronaldo. They don’t get to decide whether to go on they have to go on if the Manager asks them to go on even with a couple of minutes to go.
The problem with Ronaldo one way or another should have been sorted in the Summer.

Not surprised that Poch and Tuchel are looking for higher profile roles than Villa.

“Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur.”
Only direction ten Hag could take given the circumstances any decent Manager would have done the same.
From a Chelsea perspective I’m glad to see Ronaldo not involved tomorrow he’s still a goal scoring threat even just coming off the bench.😊

Unsurprisingly Gerrard was sacked he didn’t have the experience for the role having only managed Rangers in a poor 2 Club SPL where he goes from here will be interesting it certainly won’t be Liverpool.
Equally interesting is where Villa go from here and whether they can they attract someone like Pochettino?

I think the Ronaldo omelette is getting a bit over egged he was the world best player he’s still a good player but no longer at that level and currently he’s not getting on the pitch so he’s frustrated that’s all.
He shouldn’t have done what he did and the Club has rightly punished him the solution is finding a route out of the Club for him that will ultimately benefit both parties.

I felt really sorry for Stevie G tonight he was let down by the players had they put in the same sort of performance as they did on Sunday they would have probably got something from the game.
The Villa fans have turned on Gerrard and it’s a long way back from there. Brentford at home on Sunday which won’t be easy.

….people need to get back to discussing football.
In respect of Chelsea they were never ever charged with breaking any FFP rules and operated within the FFP rules season after season.

Stevo. Chelsea were gifted a rich owner who wanted to build a successful Club most football fans would have been as grateful as Chelsea fans were for that.
Chelsea were never ever charged with breaking either PL or UEFA financial play rules and all Chelsea’s spending were within the rules of the day!

Mikus, I think you’re right about the Pep effect on City similarly the Klopp effect on Liverpool.
Seems to me Liverpool ran out of legs this season a combination of over commitment, age and vulnerability to injuries certainly in midfield and as good as he is in forward mode TAA is still vulnerable defensively.
Still don’t think Liverpool are far off especially once they get some of their injured players back and when they strengthen their midfield in the Summer.

“People don’t widen the context; it’s easy to criticize Liverpool, but they’ve been the only team near enough over the last 5 years that’s actually challenged Man City.”
I wasn’t criticising Liverpool at all Nil. Chelsea in the CL Final for the biggest trophy of all.😊
City raised the bar in the PL and Liverpool pushing them as they have kept the PL interesting for everyone.

Just read an article on the negative effects aggressive touchline reactions by Managers can have on Referees officiating Grass roots football.
Klopp’s not the only one who can throw his toys out of the pram though and in fairness he was very regretful of his actions after the game.

Sean, we all know that City were big spenders previously historically out spending Liverpool but that is no longer the case.
Klopp claimed he couldn’t compete with City and that might have been true previously but but based on the last 5 years Klopp has been able to compete with City financially and he’s certainly been able to compete with City on the field of play given what Liverpool have won and how they’ve competed with City over the last few seasons particularly in the PL.
We’re not going to agree on this Sean so let’s just agree to disagree.

Sean, the last 5 years net spends are the most relevant in a now situation imo and City have changed their transfer expenditure over the last 5 years.
I give Klopp great credit for what he’s built at Liverpool and its to his credit that Liverpool have competed with City over the last few seasons eliminating them from the CL,winning the PL and the CL and pushing them so close in the PL last season.

Rover. I don’t believe Klopp mentioned Newcastle but it suits Klopp’s agenda to claim he can’t compete financially.
Liverpool’s net spend over the last 5 seasons is marginally higher than City’s.
Given the wealth behind Newcastle they could afford to buy the World’s major players they haven’t done that because they’ve had to adhere to FFP.

Rover. no matter their wealth Newcastle have to adhere to FFP rules. I think you’re right as far as any Manager can be Howe is as safe as anyone currently, tbh I don’t think Howe wants to be an international Manager any time soon.

New Bridge Rising!
Chelsea have confirmed a massive redevelopment of Stamford Bridge will start “in the next year”.
Just months after Todd Boehly’s £4.25billion takeover, co-owner Jonathan Goldstein promised the Blues will go “fast and hard” with their “big project”.
Chelsea will press ahead with plans to hugely revamp Stamford Bridge
Goldstein blasted the UK as “uninvestable” under Prime Minister Liz Truss due to rising interest rates.
But he promised that fear would not hinder Chelsea’s spending on their ground.
The British entrepreneur said: ‘We are looking very heavily at redevelopment.
“The planning process is something which we will start during the course of the next year.”
There’s been a few false dawn’s with the redevelopment of the Bridge/A new ground but it seems under the new owners they are keen to press ahead with a redevelopment which is the chosen route of the majority of the fans.

Never said that at all Chucky what was discussed on here along with what was being discussed in the media was the prospect of Conte possibly returning to Juve given Allegri’s problems.I’ve subsequently stated on a number of occasions that I think Conte will remain at Spurs at least for next season as per my post @3:05pm yesterday.

Chucky, my post above clearly dismissed the chances of Pochettino going to either Newcastle or back to Spurs for the reasons I stated and I wrote that if Pochettino wants to return to the PL a job like the Villa job might be his best bet!
I don’t think in the short to medium term there is a PL job that will necessarily come up and fit Pochettino’s ambitions and as the Ed says there’s probably more chance of him favouring a big job abroad over a less glamorous PL job.

I think Howe is doing a good job at Newcastle and I can’t see an opening for Poch there nor at Spurs as it looks like Conte will be there next season very few big PL jobs are likely to be around and if he wants to return to the PL a job like the Villa job may be his best bet.
