Paxton,
I can resonate to your first point. Though, I would be more inclined to believe the principle of clubs doing everything possible to hold on to their best player/s.
There are clubs out there that will play ransom, but on the same token, there is a point of every player having a price and the often eventuality results to reluctantly caving into an overwhelming bid.
It’s worth remembering in these instances that it’s never been Liverpool’s interest to place Coutinho in the shop window, nor for example was it in Swansea’s interest to sell Sigurdsson to Everton.
Persistence though in this current climate of ridiculous valuations and fees pays off and 9 times out of 10, the chasing club end up with the player they want.

23rd August 2017 at 9:37 am in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4127So, what is now doing the rounds as far as this saga goes is that a final 138 million bid is said to be tabled.
Personally, I think we should accept it. Coutinho will be somebody else’s target even if we hang on to him for another season and even if we don’t need the money, we could receive a much lesser valuation.
Let the boy move on, and we can focus in trying to recruit what we’re in need of.

Nice work Ed – most definitely be of a help having a standard visual template and being able map out different sets of formations when selecting a starting 11.
It also helps to clarify and understand who exactly is playing where.

Chucky too right about nailing the win and I hope for you guys, it’s not going to take too long.
Burnley was unusual last weekend, but I’m confident you’ll edge a positive result – just got to establish yourselves and try and deliver a few wins at Wembley.

22nd August 2017 at 5:11 pm in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4105Gibbo, you’re right. Even if Coutinho was to show feelings of disappointment, he’d be quite gentle and mild-mannered about it. I don’t think he’s the type too not to deliberately give a 100%.

22nd August 2017 at 5:09 pm in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4104Coutinho’s a game changer, but it’s a funny one because Mane was our player of the season 16/17 and we missed him hugely when he was at Afcon.
With Coutinho, for many a time, either his runs from the left-hand side to cut inside and unleash a screamer or a set piece curler has won us games.
The potential 100+ mill generated would suit us nicely as we can sell off players surplus to our requirements without placing an over-valued price tag.
Defender/s I feel remain priority as attacking wise, Salah, and Solanke had added to the already in place Lallana, Mane, and Firmino.

United meanwhile I think look nailed for another 4-0 rampant win.

It’s early doors and I do hope fortunes will change re Wembley for Spurs, however, I remain sceptic in this move as far as hosting PL games go.
Big games lie ahead as far as Liverpool go, and just taking it one game at a time, not getting carried away.
Essentially, see where we are around the first 10-15 matches and how we’re looking as far as the league ladder, form, and injuries.

22nd August 2017 at 12:28 am in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4089I guess in relation to reintegrating the player, players around him I would imagine are open-minded, professional an focused.
We don’t have those type of personalities who would otherwise be causing any friction in the camp.
Phillipe besides is liked and his skills and abilities I imagined would be re-welcomed. He’s not the first ever player to be involved in this scenario and it only takes one moment of brilliance on the pitch for all this to be swept aside.

22nd August 2017 at 12:23 am in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4088There’s reports on the net of Barca setting a midnight deadline to Liverpool to agree and do a deal. I’m not clear of the latest bid, but a rumour too on Liverpool apparently wanting to reluctantly allow this to go ahead should Lallana be fit.
Would be interesting to see the back pages of tomorrow.
The Van Dijk deal is still floating around – maybe something dramatic could still take place.

I’ve not watched it too, but have it on the radio.
According to the BBC, City have had 4 shots on target to Everton having the 1, though City had Walker sent off.
They’ve also had more possession than Everton. Seems these guys are more resolute, plus they have new signing Sigursson. Pickford too seems a key along with a new born Wayne Rooney.

It could be a godsend to us Hightown. I don’t like the idea of Moreno back in the fold and would take an example in Robertson in a heartbeat. I’d like to think he’d have learned his trade and earned his stripes playing in a competitive and difficult lower league.
Here’s hoping he is the find we’ve been craving for. It’s a centre-half now that we still must try to get hold of.

I don’t know the full ins an outs, but it seems to me that gradually, each different end of the stadium will be given the attention it needs.
We had a new playing surface relayed over the summer and plus to my knowledge, some work was put in to revamp the Kop.
Potentially, there could be possibility of a fully-refurbed Anfield. Will naturally take some time though.

Marcos Alonso is just a sparkling player for the Blues. Having watched the highlights, I felt the way Chelsea were set up with their width stretched Spurs – Alonso was instrumental to their win.
Meanwhile, after 4 or so years, I’m convinced United have recharged on the tempo they lacked with the right personnel in key playing positions – notably somebody they now have to bury the ball into the back of the net.
If you’re playing with the burst of energy and the level of threat in Rashford, Lakaku and Martial, you can annihilate the opposition.
Essentially, we were in this sort of position last year singing praises in the early stages and it’s always going to be about the team that will have enough for the course of 38 league games, but the way the squad has been strengthened plus taking into consideration Zlatan, the title could well and truly head back in the red part of Manchester.

Need a replacement free-kick taker (I was just thinking). This is potentially what can happen when you’re reliant on one guy to deliver the magic. Unfortunately, we’re likely to lose our little Phillipe to Barca.
Bit of food for thought perhaps re Van Dijk if we eventually do get hold of him, the possibility of him being versatile to play in front of the back 4 should we ever find ourselves with another central defender.
That would really ease the pressure away from Mignolet.
Can, Henderson and Wijn doesn’t quite work as it should so maybe Van Dijk pairing up with one of these guys on the lower end of the pitch would give us the steel we need.
Just a thought, mind.

Always valuable to get 3 points on the board and get off to a positive start in front of your own fans.
I think some fine tuning is still needed and I’m also not a 100% sure on what our strongest 11 is. I am ultra glad in particular in James Milner finally reverted back to his original playing position.
Robertson I hope will settle in nicely. Salah I’ve just been impressed with from the off. With Mane on the opposite side, we have balance. Solanke seems a great find for us – hope he is given more time.
A couple of big games on the way. I wonder if the Van Dijk move can still happen for us.

I’ve barely seen any footy this weekend, so just catching up. Having just watched the highlights on MOTD, Wembley for me is just simply wrong for Spurs.
It feels as though it’s some sort of a Cup Final when in actual fact, it should feel like a Premier League game. It could take time adjusting which is human nature when you’ve been used to one particular territory for such a long time.
Great win for Huddersfield – really pleased for them. John Smith stadium looks fab – simply refreshing.

I would go for Lanzini as far as replacements go. The problem I have with this above all (and this is point 2 of what I would do to change the policy of transfers) is the window should shut before our domestic season starts.
No club in fairness to them in their right mind would want to be losing any of their key players irrespective of the ridiculous amounts in fees thrown at them.

Dan-mako,
agree with pretty much everything there.
If neither RB or Southampton are going to budge, then equally, why should we cave in to and see the red mist the moment any club like Barca or Real table a bid?
I tried to create a thread the other day, but couldn’t get it on here which pointed out a suggestion in ways to improve the transfer policy and one point I made was that each club’s top 3 best players/earners in their contracts should have a clause where by any club from the outside coming in would have to give 1 window’s notice period.
This avoids the Andy Carroll scenario and panic buys.
Looks to me anyway, there’s no back injury, but a bit of a fall-out between little Phillipe and the Gaffer. As you quite rightly point out, it’s great that FSG have dug in their heels, but unfortunately, I can only see this ending up one way, though fetching a potential 120 million would be fabulous as this would pave way to move on a lot of our unwanted players and dead wood with ease and not having to raise so much on their selling fees.
