Looks like some of our players are half-a-sleep. What a start from Slovakia – fully deserved goal.

Yes it is, and fully agree.
I saw that in Wales-Austria last night.
That game needed something special. I can’t pinpoint as to why, but it seems we can’t just go by a ‘label’ or reputation.
The so-called minnows out there have represented themselves not to be anybody’s doormat.

Music to my ears – I’m in the wrong area!
Remember some years back in a hotel stay in Darlington being charged those prices.
Makes a huge difference to my Wallet!

Ed, I must say you’ve done a splendid job not to allow any form of advertising or pop ups on this site – it’s a joy.
If only I could say the same about You Tube! Now here’s a challenge 😀

I am slightly flummoxed as to why this has happened in the first place.
He’s reached what I would see at full circle in his playing career. He’s hung his boots as far as the International stage goes (fair dos), and he’s back with where he begun his career from.
Better shape than ever, playing well, has wife and children and yet this.
Just goes to show as Joe public we can only go by what we see and read. Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye.

Didn’t pay attention to how the goal was celebrated, but we had screens on all over last night in a sports bar and the welsh anthem sang plus the goal was just electric – top night and makes a change from watching England!

Hear hear.
I still can’t believe a deal was agreed. He is I’m led to believe what we’ve missed in somebody sitting in front of the 4 not only to protect, but to turn defence into attack and be that box-to-box player.
As a side, I’m now slowly starting to see Jurgen Klopp being allowed to bring in his own players and assemble his own squad which takes time and patience and should be afforded by both the owners and supporters.

I did see by random from a little research on one particular player by the name of Jeremie Boga who was signed by Chelsea as a youth in 2009. This lasted till 2015, and after making 1 senior appearance, he has since been on a journey of being loaned from Rennes B, to Granada to now Birmingham City.
I’m actually glad to see something finally conclusive out of Sakho and recently Andre Wisdom.
The point I was trying to allude to on this thread earlier is that why hold onto somebody who in reality is unlikely to have a future? I answered my own question here that from a business sense of generating revenue, that would provide the explanation, but as far as aspiring to build some sort of a playing career as a up and coming young player one in my belief to really explore all his options before jumping at the first sign of so-called promise land.
I don’t want to just single out Chelsea here. It seems we’re in an industry now where a youngster from abroad could be headhunted or is recommended only for then to be proposed with a package of accommodation, including looking after immediate family by accommodating them to, sought of passport citizenship etc, so by that, it would be hard for anybody to turn down.
And their own playing shelf-life at a level could be 5 or maybe more senior years before they are drifted away into the sunset and never to be seen again. Still a lot of money can be made in such a short space of time.

Totally appreciate that particular angle of reasoning Chucky, 2:24. I guess it’s always been the way as far as the British media goes: Excessive hype followed by grabbing with both hands the moment there’s an opportunity to take somebody down.
Maybe it’s argued that you reap what you sow and also by the nature, the media are well within their rights to report and publish the facts.

My previous comment was just a bit of a laugh, but it then got me to nose quickly into Wikipedia and was quite alarmed to see that there’s 31 players of current that have been loaned out by Chelsea. 17 of which were English players.

You might be right Big Jim.
I appreciate we can’t hide from the fact we’ve not done incredibly well as far as strengthening the defence goes, though we’ve brought players like for like to bulk up the midfield and attack.
There are reasons to such as being able to manage multiple competitions positively. So when playing midweek in the CL, there is still a good enough first 11 to select and compete in a PL game whatever the opposition.
And we can’t sweep under the rug players who have faced difficulties in sustaining themselves injury-free. Players like Sturridge and Henderson. The negotiated deal with Ox-Chamberlain was so he would be able to play in ‘his’ preferred position. That would suit Liverpool nicely if Henderson was not available for one reason or another.
Solanke too was brought in because we don’t really have a striker beyond Sturridge other than Danny Ings, but I wonder whether he is in Jurgen Klopp’s long-term plans. Origi seems out of favour and thus is out on loan.
Time will tell of course in how the season pans out and whether or not it will be an improvement on the last.

I could quite easily see a differing of views 999 on selection which is healthy because we are now in a position where there’s not a ‘default’ first 11. For instance, there’s no Firmino, Sturridge, Can, Henderson, or Wyjnaldum who could quite be placed there.
Though you’re right as far as the defence goes, it’s very much thread bare though I do hope the reintegrating of Jon Flanagan and new signing Andrew Robertson will provide some discipline that is much needed.

Steering this slightly away, we’ve seen certain clubs buy a player to stop competitors buying him only for him to be largely on the bench and thereafter loaned. That player is then aged and snapped up by a lesser club to give his playing career a rebirth, and then bought by a so-called more better club as a step up – I’m thinking Scott Sinclair.
Although financially, the generating large sums from the loan system might be a smart business move, what sort of a precedent (hypothetically speaking) does this set for any up and coming youngster wanting to join a top football club like Chelsea?
The shelf life of a manager and the way the industry is as cut-throat as ever means more pressure to bring in and field finished articles/players that immediately hit the ground running.
This doesn’t in my view breed a great deal of hope for those in the academy wanting to be recognised and given the opportunity to break into the first team.

Would be interesting if a limit time frame was officially regulated by authorities, though as you say chucky, they’re not really the slightest bit bothered. If the 2 clubs involved work out a deal between them, then so be it.
It does make me wonder what would the case be if there was a sudden turn of events and a club was to go financially bust.

I think based on that calculation Ed, the 100m isn’t the actual registered transaction, but it’s whatever the agreed instalment is. Obviously, the lower the better in spite of it taking longer to complete the down-payments (the club stays within financial fair play).
I actually heard off a colleague from Liverpool (whether this was just a tongue-in-cheek comment) that Mascherano fee had only just been paid off which is hard to believe given the time he was purchased and the fee of 24 mil (if I’m right in saying so).
As a side, I’m led to believe also this perhaps was ‘the’ reason why the Coutinho deal didn’t go through because of what Liverpool were demanding.
