What a lovely looking Premier League Table. Even after 3 games 😀

Was at work so just catching up on everything;
That was just sheer powerhouse and seemingly, one of our best performances for quite some time.
I seen Mane’s goal and that’s 100 million on it’s own. Salah is real with his drive and conviction and no pretender – what a find. We’ve got the balance as Firmino can play central, and as far as midfield goes, Milner is back in his natural position.
We still need to strengthen and we should now look to cash in on Coutinho.
What a win a perfect cheer me up!

Just catching up on today’s events and listening to (I think) Joey Barton. He’s actually a breath of fresh air compared to his reputation on the pitch.
Totally agree with him that you won’t get 4-0 every week or the most entertaining of football, but you’re getting the most important thing which is 3 points and in fairness to Leicester, they are no pushover.
You have to say this is probably one of Man United’s best starts for a while (bar last season) and Jose Mourinho’s tactics have paid off in bring on pace and a game changer in Marcos Rashford.
There are more so far visible signs of pace and power – very much like ‘a’ familiar side under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Champions League once upon a time essentially was about just 2 teams from each league and when all thrown together, they would be on par with each other.
I know from our own experience in finishing 4th led to a historical triumph in 2005, but a team finishing 4th could have finished 15-20 points behind the champions. That to be is a bit of a gulf in quality and achievement.
So from the 2 made pots, isn’t the starting point of this essentially 2-tier?
I just think if we are going about it in this manner, then the title of the competition needs a rethink. From a personal point of view, I’ve been longing for it to revert back to the old-skool knockout competition.

I like the idea like yesterday of Can given license to surge forward. Keep Wijn and Hendo deep to protect the defenders. Our width in Mane and Salah sorted.
So I’d give either Solanke or Sturridge a start.

Chucky, good luck to your boys – man what a draw!
Maybe a possibility to plan a Wembley visit – for a former hero 😉

Echo Scouser in exile’s comments.
We could have landed with a more rough end of the stick.
The group stages can be a bit of a autumn-winter slog, but I would say our main aim is to get through to phase 2 and see where we are with everything else.

Yeah, that could go either way re Barnsley and Derby, Chucky.
Going to be looking out for Bristol City and Burton too.
We meanwhile have to get past Leicester and try and aim to win some silverware this season.

Too right Chucky.
We’d have to luxury of Barca’s money to buy both Naby Kieta and Van Dijk at 75mill each.
From a business point of view, it’s such a good move as we can lay players like Sakho and Moreno off cheaply to whoever’s interested. They come off our wage bill and Klopp begins to be able inject his own buys and develop the squad.

Any opposition out there is going to encourage a competitive game and one of which can’t be taken lightly.
The good thing about this is that we now have a manager who I’d imagine is familiar with a lot of European sides, so no doubt, he’ll be using all his experience to prepare us in the best possible way.

Lighthearted:
Would anybody op for Rafa to return and join Jurgen Klopp.
That’s a classic tug of war hahaha
Kenny coming round to mediate 😀

We are back in the bigtime – believe!
Let’s now go out there and give it our all whatever tie is thrown at us.
In essence, as far as the CL goes, we’ve lost our mojo a fair bit since the departure of Rafa.

Slight napping there letting in a second goal, however use this as a cue to re-ignite and see off the tie.
Very quiet and in close down mode.
Just a matter in essence seeing this off academically.
Nice.

That was just wow 😀
Missed that little chunk of the game where we score 3 vital goals and was at the point of settling when Hoff got a goal back.
Would love us to double our lead and just have some fun 🙂

23rd August 2017 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4140If you we step back away and rewind ourselves before the ‘Neymar effect’, I probably would have valued Coutinho anything from 50-to-70 mill. Even then, I would have thought ‘wow’. So based on that, we’d still be gaining something overwhelming if sold say a year after. It all depends on a many factors though.

That is certainly one way of looking at it re PSG. From their own actions, other clubs have decided to follow suit.
From Paxton’s earlier point, whether or not clubs will then play ransom, the bottom line (due to the now luxury of tv money as your rightly point out) is the ‘cat and mouse’ or the to and fro out of this 9 times out of 10 will deliver the outcome of the player moving and the selling club generating ‘X’ percentage of mark up against the scale of reality as we know it.
What should happen in my view going forward is for this whole policy to be reviewed/evaluated both by UEFA and the FA and new regulations draw up and proposed, i.e. a cap introduced on the most an individual can be sold for, not to mention, timing and in my view as great importance, a notice period of 1 transfer window before that player can be released.
What would you say to that?

I can resonate to your first point. Though, I would be more inclined to believe the principle of clubs doing everything possible to hold on to their best player/s.
There are clubs out there that will play ransom, but on the same token, there is a point of every player having a price and the often eventuality results to reluctantly caving into an overwhelming bid.
It’s worth remembering in these instances that it’s never been Liverpool’s interest to place Coutinho in the shop window, nor for example was it in Swansea’s interest to sell Sigurdsson to Everton.
Persistence though in this current climate of ridiculous valuations and fees pays off and 9 times out of 10, the chasing club end up with the player they want.

23rd August 2017 at 9:37 am in reply to: Echo reporting Coutinho to Barcelona interest has ceased #4127So, what is now doing the rounds as far as this saga goes is that a final 138 million bid is said to be tabled.
Personally, I think we should accept it. Coutinho will be somebody else’s target even if we hang on to him for another season and even if we don’t need the money, we could receive a much lesser valuation.
Let the boy move on, and we can focus in trying to recruit what we’re in need of.
