Absolutely dead on Oz Yob.
I’ve never bought into this ‘Gengenpressing’ as something exclusive as Liverpool traditionally are a attack-minded and threatening in their footballing philosophy. The difference and such similarity to Brendan Rodgers is the tempo is at a greater intensity.
There is an extra weight of expectation for players to retain physical fitness, train more throughout the week, and stay injury free.
Plan B or alternative strategies not only can overcome challenging teams and achieve results, but also allow players to catch a breath (or two).
Opposing teams well-drilled at the back resist our pressing and exploit us when presented with an opportunity. This is where we need to be able to slow it down a bit, be patient and be smart. Playing in a constant hurry can impair the overall quality, especially when crosses are fired in willy-nilly with no actual striker or a top quality striker to head the ball into the back of the net.

Sanchez on the bench, again?
Looks like Wenger’s planning to bring on Walcott in the second half to inject pace.
Ideally, I would love for this to be a draw, but can see the Blues steamrolling this if the Gunners don’t turn up!

Too early to be forming conclusions and barely after 5 games too. Adopting such mindset as much as being a realist and sensible, top spot for my club is not out of the question.
I neither would suggest the same for Arsenal, nor Spurs. There is plenty of opportunity out there and I’d reasonate in such way even after 15 games.
We have to take on board injuries, other competitions, how club Managers deal with adversity and above all, manage these challenges over a course of the whole season.

Oz Yob, @ 5:15, that is true. Our tactics or pressing is designed to counteract the problem of the ball/possession avoided from defensive playing areas.
In reality, only a team like Barcelona can sustain that style of play, but it proves too within their own fold, you still have to install top quality defenders.
If anything, the pressing wears the players out and as a result, there’s every chance of an injury/cramp. The game needs to be controlled at a sensible pace and players all over the park must be comfortable with possession, not only that, vary the overall style of play and be able to adapt against different teams and their tactics.

I heard this in the car yesterday evening. This is an epic call and so so right on all counts:

As far as opposition clubs go in the top flight, I’ve liked Man City; naturally for one or two reasons easily fitted on to being a Liverpool supporter and one which involved the 13/14 title race and my admiration for Manuel Pellegrini.
Very much like us, I genuinely enjoy the style of football you guys play and it comes across as only being in 2nd or 3rd gear.
I’d come on the march only if I’d be able to get an autograph and a photo with Liam Gallagher 😀 🙂

Oz yob, in full agreement there regarding the need for a Striker. I don’t know how Firmino is persisted with when I’ve felt he’s more of a player behind an actual striker even though he has known to get himself in the box.
The obvious of the defence just speaks for itself. We’ve lived through these scenarios so many times, you just eventually have to suck it up and take it on the chin as best as possible.

It’ll be a bumpy ride that’s for sure if all points discussed on other threads are not reinforced.

Bit tricky to predict on some of the Prem fixtures of this weekend.
Some of them could go either way.

I’d say the problem discussed is a deep rooted one and one quite frankly stemming from 2010. It’s been reflected over this long period of time, because those individuals who were there and gracefully carried us descended one by one:
I’m talking Carragher, Agger, even Skrtel when he had his better player and leader cap on. Hodgson was a car crash from the off and there wasn’t really quite the lasting fairytale we hoped for under King Kenny on his second honeymoon.
Rodgers brought in Sakho to try and forge a partnership with Lovren. Even if we had this in place along with a David De Gea type of keeper, we’ve had least had a solid base to then work on the full-backs and gradually develop and establish a defensive unit.
As it happens, the changes made and the lack of quality not good enough to address the problem has brought us back to square 1. Many quite rightly have pointed out that our attacking swagger and goals have counteracted but also masked the problem and when we have fallen short in those areas, we’ve been pegged back as proved ala the results against Watford and Seville.
Other teams on Wednesday won comfortably and handsomely. We on the other hand struggled. This is effectively the point that I wanted to put forward and try and positively acknowledge.
Now could somebody be creative enough to form a banner projecting that message? 🙂 😉

Highly commendable on one particular individual who suffered burns around his hairline area progressively. He carried on as normal and chose to work as normal rather than make Hospital priority.
It’s naturally come as a shock to those in the vicinity trying to get on with their lives as normal.
It was declared as Terror and some form of a Pressure Cooker concealed in a Lidl Carrier Bag.

999, that is actually a sound point about the mention of the owners. They have been with the club a good 7 years and from the investment brought in along with growth in so many areas off the pitch, they are in a greater position to now focus more attention on it.
1 trophy in the last 12 years for one of the most successful of clubs is poor if we look at it from a greater picture. Chelsea in that sort of period have achieved something like 14 and 2 of the recent cup finals including the Europa Liverpool have been involved ended as second best.
I would like to allow Jurgen more time and don’t want to fall into this pattern of changing Managers, but I wonder from an ownership point of view, plus supporters in general how much patience they themselves would allow.

I wonder if an Everton fan has designed that Ed, hahaha.
We have deep rooted problems in the highlighted areas that’s no hiding, but this is a little on the extreme side and I personally don’t want Jurgen dismissed. Though he would need to have an intention to address the defence good and proper.

I had experienced those problems a few weeks back Oz Yob when I wanted to start a topic on Sky’s new package of sports; wrote a fair bit and lost it as I couldn’t revisit the page even after pressing the back button.
Much credit to Ed, I’d rather those measures were in place to avoid really late night fake sign ups and arguments/flare ups between posters which was happening on the other named website.
Me personally have quite an admiration already for this particular site, though in general, I don’t want to form a long term habit of being too involved in what’s been written and discussed as I think time away gives you a better perspective of everything.

Genuinely thankful for the replies, thank you. It hurt to see others winning and we being pegged back. I just knew in the back of my mind (even though I don’t want to be thinking like this).
I can’t see myself being overly enthusiastic or excited certainly as far as the group stages go to be watching games on tv.
Paxton, on your first reply I fully agree. The defence is the structure, it’s like the legs that support the table. The transfer window activity have been excused as reasoning for not being able to bring in new defenders, but in the entire squad I think we have only half a dozen and players like Jon Flanagan are not even being considered.
What on earth is going through Jurgen Klopp’s mind to be even considering Raglan Klavan? We adding strength to the depth of the squad but too much in one area and not in the other and it’s very much now reached the point of suicidal as the Watford game vividly illustrated.
Going forward from now as people on here have quite rightly pointed out, it’s now a matter of what we do with the deck of cards we have and how we used them tactically on the pitch.
