That’s top draw and that’s how you take a Pen.

That is a sweet finish.

Pagan, I think in summary, we’re likely to get the sceptics and the oohs and aahs.
Some may even make the point of being nit-picky and pedantic.
But if can iron out what players have got away with or something just missed in observation by the Ref, then as far as the game goes, we’d be in a better place.
Cheers

Pagan, I honestly didn’t know about player on keeper.
Let’s put Mignolet to one side and just talk hypothetically; in the Keeper’s defence what can he do?
I remember a free kick from 2000 from Danny Murphy at old Trafford where Emile Heskey gets away with muscling his back on a United player from a wall set up to create a gap for the ball to curl in.
If VAR was to pick up on this, I reckon there’s a good chance that goal would be disallowed.

Pagan, I did view that 1:14, but it’s a bit hazy and I can’t see a great deal.
Have a look at 1:25. Look at Barry’s arms. You make the point of him being placed there deliberately to try and put the Keeper off. That’s the first I’ve seen in any footballing rule book.
I had many years ago somebody do this when I was year 9 year 10 because he also played Basket ball and he was using obstruction style of methods. We all collectively made it clear it had no place as far as our game went.
Notably though, no matter how much we disagree on this and exercise this to death, The Referee ruled it out.

Pagan, there isn’t really any other place to view the incident from it’s entirety other than 1:26 which is as vivid as you’ll see.
The game was lost. I’m not gaining anything out of this. And, that call from VAR didn’t help us to win the game. It was a decision made base on common-sense and reading of the situation.
I’ve played as a Forward myself, and if I’m stood in that position, it’s because I’m ready to try and attack the ball when the corner is swung. Barry isn’t the type of player with intent to leap and head the ball.
He’s in a squat type of position, his arms are out (why?) to resist any opportunity for Mignolet to put a claim on the ball.
The right call in my view which was what you originally asked of me, so I’m sorry it’s not what you want to hear, but that’s where I stand on this.

Pagan, I honestly cannot believe what I’ve just read re your comment.
Michael Owen immediately picks up on the West Brom player who happens to be Gareth Barry.
He’s stood in that position to obstruct Mignolet and both his arms are out, something you fail to mention, yet you’re questioning me.
What does it matter what I think anyway?
It seems you have a stance on VAR and you’ve made your mind up which is fine. On this separate matter though, I’m sorry to say you honestly have misread this situation. Freeze the footage on 1:26.
The Keeper has no intention to push Barry, but has his hands placed forcefully in an attempt to try and capture the ball. After all, that’s part of the Keeper’s regiment.

Pagan, I was lost at first in the instance you were referring too. I’m glad though, this has been brought to my attention:
What about the fact that the West Brom player has his back to goal with his sole interest to prevent Mignolet?
That’s blatant infringement/obstruction. Mignolet is trying to stand him off to allow himself breathing space and to manoeuvre.
This was obviously missed by VAR as focus was on the offside.
1:26

This has very much just come in from Sky. Not gonna set up a thread just for this, but looks like Sturridge is on his way out for a loan move to the Baggies:

Chucky, it’s not a bad ‘problem’ to be presented with mate. A lot out there would give their right arm for a full head of hair 🙂 🙂

Spot on C/Man.
Can isn’t defensive-minded as much as the comparison of Milner. This is quite simply down to experience, reading of the game and ability in protecting his defence.
How?
By reading ‘A’ situation and providing a ‘shield’ so should one of our defenders make a mistake, Can is there to pick up the pieces.
We’ve had a lot of instances with second-balls quite frankly not picked up by anyone quick enough.

Lol, I think you may have too busy paying attention to his perm Chucky that accentuated the effect of the fall 😀 🙂

Salah made a plea to the Referee on the pitch because he felt aggrieved. He didn’t just fall casually to the ground, he was impeded.
The Referee then referred this to VAR who then decided to award Liverpool the Penalty.
I’ve lost count the number of times, we’ve been in this situation and I’m sure other fans out there feel exactly the same about THEIR team. There are individuals diving out there and it’s them the officials need to get hold of.

I noticed the change in Zero Tolerance of mis-timed tackles and very bad challenges actually from watching Argentina’s opener against Cameroon in 1990. I don’t think there was an intent of malice, but it was the approach going from one extreme to another.
I think Cameroon were left with 9 men, but I thought at the time given out straight reds set a new precedent.
27-28 years on, whilst we don’t want the game sanitized, there really were some bad challenges yesterday that warranted a straight-sending off no questions asked.

Haha, do me a favour mate; your reply is laced with LiVAR 🙂
And that’s the whole purpose and beauty of this Tech!

Haha, I’ll say something cryptic in pleading for 3 outcomes over the course of the next 7 days.
I’ll be a very happy man this time next week if we pull it off 🙂

Sorry to hear the news Re Sane.
I suspect behind the scenes, this is down to a certain Neil Warnock. I’d be gutted if one of my key players was out for a lengthy spell – just when we are emerging too into an important part of the season.

Bit unclear, but I think Emre was brought in as a long-term shoe-horn for Lucas Leiva.
I tried to convey this in my reply yesterday as I’m not sure whether we need to implement a box-to-box strategy in the first place. What good has it really done as far as Emre goes?
I’ve only ever seen Can score that goal against Chelsea in his first season and then last season against Watford. His best position is sitting in front of the back 4 pushing towards the centre circle which is something we already have in Jordan Henderson.
Collectively only Milner is the best fit as a direct link to support and protect the back 4. Can, Henderson and Wijn just aren’t wired up that way.
Serie A may suit Can better because of the slowness of their tempo in style of play. We on the other hand need to get hold of Kieta, scrap the box-to-box position and implement 2 holding midfields – perhaps promote Van Dijk to that position.
Bring in a couple of more top quality defenders not to mention a top quality Keeper and then, only then we’ll see a drastic change.

I was genuinely happy and refreshed to see the ability of decisions overturned – re Saturday Night.
It’s not essentially the Tech’s fault in itself but the way it’s managed.
It’s early days yet, but I’m sure they’ll be guidelines, and I’m sure behind the scenes, they’ll set some sort of a target of time to follow up disputes and resolve them quickly to enable a more flowing game.
