Agree with both of you guy Nine and CM.
I rate Henderson as he’s matured over the last few years. In fairness to him he does have that presence about him and a good decent pro. We have some good technical players, but we don’t really have a lot of characters or leaders.
Not sure why Henderson is on the brunt of the blame in England not really having an array of top quality since the ‘Golden Generation’ has trickled away. That’s a different talking point altogether.

It would be sad in my view if he was to leave Arsenal in these type of circumstances. He should leave on a high.

When I looked at their team-sheet and their bench it dawned on me just how far they’ve descended in depth and quality – quite sad from an onlooker’s POV and from just a fan of football who’s seen even in recent years some top top individuals.

A hard 7 days for their faithful – wouldn’t want to go through what they’ve been going through.

This could be the final straw on the back.
Why Mustafi selected again?!

Good shout on Ox, Mak. I completely agree, he does show grit.
Like he did against Man City some weeks back, I would love to see him run through the centre robustly and try one. It’s a great dimension to have in the team, somebody being a classic central midfielder.
Hopefully more goals out of him too which is always nice knowing goals can come from other players and not just our main two or three.

I’ve been hugely impressed with the full-backs Mak. They just get on with the job and take care of their playing positions which in itself, takes care of our any potential danger that could come from either flanks.
With Van Dijk coming in, I don’t feel like a used in thinking a calamity is around the corner. I feel more assured as it seems to me either/or Lovren and Matip can play alongside VVD.
The way Klopp’s set the midfields since Ox has gradually now flourished to seemingly how he wants it.
I now longer just see this so-called ‘gegenpressing’, but more of a well-oiled machine that can patiently build up play from the back.
These are positives going into the United game, but as you rightly point out, Jose himself is tactically astute, especially when it comes to discipline.
We’ve drawn twice at Anfield since his arrival and goalless too. Maybe at Old Trafford, another 0-0 is on the cards and Karius really shines for us and has one of his best games. That would be good for me. This is an acid test given the circumstances of what seems a lot more vivid in competing for second place.
A United win would see them gain a valuable numerical advantage, and with the same number of games played. From an attacking point of view, my only disappointment is not having Phillipe, and that’s just down to his magical free kicks and his ability to score from a tight angle when getting into the box, but I think we’ve already countered that as Mane, Firmino and Salah are all synced and on par with either not only on technical ability, but form and TEAMPLAY.
I don’t rate United’s defence that highly compared to previous sets of eras, but it’s just the way Jose sets them up that could thwart us, but as you rightly say, Salah has natural ability to make something out of nothing in the tightest of spaces.
Here’s hoping. We are blessed meanwhile in the way things stand with Porto – as long as we don’t concede 5 goals, hahaha 🙂 🙂

4th March 2018 at 11:47 am in reply to: Week 29 footy (Including predictions- Ars v Man C Included) #17117Hmmm, not sure what to go for. I know a Chelsea defeat would help us and Spurs and United, but even though the League is City’s, I want them to break some sort of a sweat for it rather than to cost and be handed the title in Easter.
I want this to stretch as far as possible whilst it’s mathematically possible for anybody else to catch them.

The clean sheet and how we held ourselves defensively overall out of this game is going to help us going into the United game next week.
We have to be fearless. Away from home we have had 3 defeats all season; Man City, Spurs and Swansea. The Swansea one was a bad day at the office, but the others we can’t really be too disappointed about as they are good quality opposition.
A draw at United wouldn’t be a bad result for us, but if we can show that same type of application on the road like we did against Southampton we can actually nick it.
We need to be strong mentality to be able to deal with their supporters who will naturally be vocal, and the pressure thrown at our defence. Can and Henderson if selected will really need to be on top of their game – get the feeling though, Klopp may opt instead for Wijn or James Milner to increase that solidarity.
Dejan Lovren I feel will partner Vigil Van Dijk, and TAA and Robertson will keep their places respectively at right and left-back.
The trio select and speak for themselves. Maybe this fixture will be the measure of just how far we’ve come. We’ve yet to take any points off a top six side albeit Arsenal (home and away) and Man City.

442, agree with your last part.
This has caused an uproar from when Pep is ‘clocked on’. When you ‘clock out’ of ‘your shift’ and he’s wearing that ribbon whilst walking down the street, should that still be an issue?
I personally don’t think so. I’m not particularly sure too how Pep can be a hypocrite too about this.
Anyway, I don’t really want to get too involved on this thread and from past experience of other sites, I think it’s better to keep politics off a football message board even though there is a non-football forum.

Nine, fair dos mate.
I don’t think Jordan in reality could ever take the responsibility of a full-on box-to-box role – certainly whilst he has the Captain’s armband.
Ox has taken away that pressure because of his desire to play the natural central midfield role. This allows Henderson to take a bit of a back seat and just occupy a particular area of the pitch which suits him fine.
I still believe he is contributing something valuable if it means being the jigsaw piece in-between that supports both the attack and defence.
Cheers

He almost had a bit of a stinker in giving the ball away after choosing to pass-back whilst being under pressure.
Why don’t people guard the ball with the bodyweight, use their left foot and being on the left-hand side, use the outside of your foot to turn the ball anti-clockwise? He would not have ran into a Newcastle opponent.
Anyway, my main point of him re-integrating from injury that he plays better behind the centre-circle.
He doesn’t have to break a sweat which suits him, but does what he’s good at doing in being industrious and breaking up play, not to mention supporting the defence – works well with Emre Can.
If Can does go on to leave incidentally, then Kieta I presume will be his instant replacement.

Mak, I like both your posts 🙂 🙂 🙂
You’re right about solidity. We’re genuinely on the right track and that’s down to allowing Klopp time to formulate a quality first 11.
Sure, there’s always room to improve, and that’s a good thing.
An acid test for us next week mate. I believe once we see Porto through, we’ll be fully focused and bring our A game.
Yes, you’re right about your thoughts on Man City, and even though in reality we all can accept it’s their League Title this year, I want us to push as high as possible so that we can evaluate the GULF and that would fill FSG with encouragement to take improve us.
Enjoy the highlights 🙂
P.S. All this without little Phillipe haha 🙂

A nice well-crafted and a professional performance from the Reds.
Very happy to get 6 points out of 6 on home soil where by in the past, those games have turned out otherwise by taking our eye off the ball.
Klopp looks as though he’s finally found his best fit to shoe-horn Henderson, Can and Oxlaid to achieve the optimum out of them whilst adding protection to the defence.
Karius looks a lot more self-assured and that could simply just be down to a well-balanced and disciplined back 4.
It seems the Refs don’t want to particularly give a foul FOR US when associated just outside the box or the box in itself.
Porto next up whereby we could afford a bit of a luxury on team selection, but going forward, Next Saturday at Old Trafford is the key for us and a 6 pointer as far as second place goes.
Plenty of thoughts, but for now, let’s rock and roll and enjoy the win 🙂 🙂

I’m just full of plaudits in Klopp’s direction in the way he’s bedded in the Ox.
What a beautiful win-win situation where the player can play the position he’s always wanted to play, but didn’t get that break at Arsenal.
With his licence to play as the pushing central midfielder, Klopp and Can play as 2 supporting midfielders behind the centre circle. The front 3 are positioned more deeper, but really work hard to carve their own passage of play and goal-scoring opportunities.

Get in! Lovely finish by Sadio.
That move looked really at full speed.
Let’s just keep adding and maintain that clean sheet.
