What I would add too based on experience of what has took place is that for a small number of Managers, in example, what might have worked for them at Chelsea, doesn’t mean it will work for them exactly the same at Manchester United.
I almost wanted to use Pep as an exception, but even with him, I think at best, he would need Time regardless of being able to spend and bring whoever he wanted to (if that was the case).

Lots of time has passed since the departure of a certain Mr Ferguson;
It was 12 years on the 23rd of October (and I remember vividly that day on Sky Sports of that Sunday) Manchester United 1 Manchester City 6 at Old Trafford; seeing new blood from the blue in David Silva, Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and the controversial Mario Balotelli.
The Man United team back then you would say in realism needed reviewing in players coming up to their shelf life and the unavoidable prospect of rebuilding.
Ferguson pulled off a Master Stroke of a quick fix signing Robin Van Persie in August 2012, winning a Record Title Number 20 in 2013 and guess what? At the age of 73, 26 years of service finally comes to an end as The Great Man himself calls Time.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this with any football club in Living memory of such long service and with that, the achievement of such decoration of Trophies.
Every Manager since then has at some point found a Tough Point. There’s so much say first and foremost of Money, contracts, terms-conditions.
I’ll tell you first hand United fans, you think Liverpool have got it good?
If we don’t underpin a combination of tying down our key figurehead players and signing/raising potentials, plus splashing out in risk of a Ready-Made or a B-Grade that we can make into somebody Special, then Liverpool too will be floundering.

Keeping Ruud, probably sensible. As least he’s worked with the players and knows them.
Managers have come in and good ones too but I think top to toe United’s downfall is their decision-making.
Whoever does come in needs to take a step back and absorb the ‘stock’he has before buying and selling.
Southgate would probably bring in spirit and togetherness, plus get the players playing and believing in themselves.

I just wonder honestly how in 2024, we have got to the point where Van Dijk’s Blue Boot is the factor of playing the opposing player onside? Lines?!?!?!
Oh my god, I didn’t even think ‘that far ahead’! It’s a clear goal. 20 and 10 years ago, nobody even really thought that deep into whether it’s an offside.
We need to be real and sensible about this than go Political Correctness.

A much better second half from us; definitely more resilient under Slot. Naive and vulnerable at times on set-pieces, but don’t forget we played a Top Team.
To see the fight from us and find a result is a Positive. 2 hard London teams back to back and we come unbeaten and only 1 point behind Man City.

Lot of work to do in the second half. Equalizer was good to get us back in the game, but really, we just don’t have the foothold. Attacking players really need to track back and support the midfield; Salah almost non-existent.
Arsenal playing with so much authority. Set pieces they have been dangerous.

Been busy with work, but having looked at the Table, quite positive with encouragement of seeing Nott’m Forest not just in the Top Half, but actually like 5/6 place.
There are genuinely teams now able to give the very big boys a run for their money and they know they are constantly looking over their shoulder while the league is young and league table positions can quite easily change from one team dropping points to another picking up points game-after-game.
A lot of them too are evenly matched.
Surprised Man City only won by a single goal; that’s a little food for thought.
Focus now onto the matches Sunday π

That’s the one Sean re Zobo; decision-making. Either not shooting on sight or the wrong pass. He’s been a real grafter of late taking ownership.

Yeah, kinda get what you mean 3ps. Play Darwin as an out n out centre forward; start him playing a 4-3-2-1.
I have been so impressed of late with Zobo’s contribution, but because both him and Macca occupy a lot of the possession, we need to continue decimating so that others too are applying their fair share of work rate.
Yep, the Fantasy Team is set for a Haaland Hat-trick anticipation; This could be the weekend.
I think City will finish Top being a point clear of us should we draw at the Emirates.

Sean, Odegaard is ruled out mate. Saka doubtful. Even with these guys out, I’ve factored in the possibility still in being a tough match.
They have plenty of quality.
Hope we start with Gravenberch.
Jota is still missing for us.

It all kicks off Tonight at the King Power! Expect Policing building up as this is one big rivalry in the midlands; Leicester v Forest.
Top Spot this weekend most likely to change. Tough game for Liverpool at the Emirates, and would probably take a draw.
Can’t really see any shocks and surprises; should all be pretty straight-forward home and away victories.

25th October 2024 at 5:14 am in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #216096Some good points re Liverpool:
In agreement completely with Three P’s on us needing a Firmino. He is noticeably missed because of his skill. Mane effectively never replaced.
I like Darwin, but realistically, we’re not going to get out of him and x y z amount of goals that we need.
This brings me to thinking and believing more and more we’ve stopped playing a high-press game. We are more conventional in playing from the back and relying on our midfield for protection and creativity.
Macca and Zobo therefore cannot be expected to last 100 minutes without picking up knock after knock and this is where Jones and Trent come in.
Without Jota, it’s a much different dimension but Gakpo and Diaz do provide the missing threat that we need.
Tough game this coming Sunday.

23rd October 2024 at 8:54 pm in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #216077Steve McManaman on preview summed up Liverpool well under Arne Slot; something I noticed, but was a little hazy; the Press has changed. I don’t think we’re high-pressing. To me, it’s a collective build up from the back and an emphasis on Defenders being involved from the start.
That said, there is still that uncertainty creeping from the back playing excessive side-to-side passes and thereafter an impulsive pass to one of the midfielders leading them to stretch out further than they should and as a result, a strong challenge coming in from opposition and boom, a foul.
We’re in the lead. I am still not convinced! But we’re doing ok up to now π

Haha, this did make me smile π
Off the top of my head, if all City’s Titles were Stripped, I think Liverpool would just shade it over United on Titles or they’d be level on 22.

I see your explanation 3ps from what supposedly is the rules. You can’t be offside from a corner, but from a Goalkeeper’s perspective, unless, the opposition guy is sleeping or point-blank stationery, I refer to my original point in him clearly being there as a ‘decoy’ and a distraction.
Sceptical I remain on this.
