It is a strange one Ed. It’s generally said you should never go back. But as we’ve been discussing, there is a general dearth of top managers available and it seems Spurs are struggling to find someone they deem suitable.

It’s a good point Sean, Utd had nothing to really play for in the last few games of the league season and then it’s hard to swing back into your groove thereafter. Similarly, the CL final between us and Spurs was an awful game because there was a 3 week gap between the game and the end of the season and both teams struggled to get back into their groove.

Mike, I think what has generally helped in recent years is that the constant disappointments and the retirement of the “golden generation” has given Southgate more freedom to rebuild a young team without the constant pressure and expectation. So it’s been good to reset and Gareth has done some good things. But I just see him more of a person to oversee things than having the strong personality you need to lead a dressing room. Yes, as others point out, there are very few English candidates for the job so it is what it is. The FA really needs to be addressing that.

I always rated Dzeko Brian. Always tended to come up with a goal when needed.
I just can’t see Kane going abroad, which would limit his options to the 3 premier league teams mentioned. The problem for Kane is if someone like Sancho suddenly becomes available as well, that’s another young striker on the market who is better value for money for a big club. Something could still be worked out, but I still fear Kane could have hung himself out to dry. Two years ago would have been the time to move, if he was going to do it.

Yeh Ed, it’s almost as though Levy appointed Mourinho to appease the likes of Kane and make out that bigger things would be around the corner because of the aura of Jose. But you obviously have to look at other things beyond that because there are other factors you need to have big success. And a 26 year old Kane would be that bit more attractive than a 28 year old one, particularly when English players tend to command big transfer fees and we’re talking about the England captain here. It’s almost like he’s now too big to move.

I think Nuno should have left Wolves earlier when his stock was higher. Now they’ve struggled this season, his reputation will have been affected.
