There may just be a minority that gets physically violent, but a lot of fans do hurl more general obscenities at opposition players and thatโs just deemed part of the culture. But itโs not really a surprise the more thuggish elements then take such obscenities further either racially or with physical violence. I think all abuse is bad and thatโs ultimately the root cause of the more extreme obscenities. So the problem is a lot deeper for me.

I agree Blaze. I have much sympathy with Chucky’s frustrations on the recent thread regarding the big club dominance. But whilst big money has of course distorted the league, I think the dearth of good managers is a big problem. Also why are these recently promoted teams playing such open football that basically creates cannon fodder for the big clubs. You’d have thought Leeds would have learnt some lessons last season at Old Trafford.

Obviously not top opposition today, but we generally looked very good, sharp and fresh.

We look pretty sharp. Great to see most of the usual back line back in place.

When Liverpool went through a lean spell, they always still managed to have a few big personalities in the dressing room, be it Suarez or Gerrard. Someone who could at least excite the fans during those difficult times. And then they obviously brought in a big personality to actually manage the club in Klopp. Problem for Arsenal, Arteta aside, is I just don’t really see any personalities in that side with regards to the players. Yes they have a few bright players, but that’s not enough. And now they’re playing extra safe in the transfer market by bringing in younger players with potential for the long term. I think when the owners had Wenger in charge they could almost sit back and let him run things on a budget by constantly getting top 4. But now he’s gone, they can’t find a replacement who will deliver the same things under the same conditions. So they keep playing safe and are getting nowhere fast.

Hard surely for Kane to feature in any part of that game now.
Yes good to get some normality back this season. Makes you appreciate it more after the fans have been missing.

Just a few days before the game, City apparently preparing another bid for Kane.
Manchester City are preparing their new bid for Harry Kane around โฌ150m and would also include add-ons if necessary to convince Spurs. โช๏ธ๐จ #THFC
Tottenham still hope to keep Kane but Man City are not giving up – bid will be ready.

Problem is Pagan, the public still buy them in large quantities, even at that price. Football is so tribal that people will pay what it takes to don themselves in the latest club shirts. They could stamp their feet collectively like they did with the european super league, but they don’t. But then if you’re paying ยฃ40/ยฃ50 just for a match ticket, you’ll probably pay ยฃ70/ยฃ80 for a shirt. Prices just get normalised.

It’s almost like PSG are playing football manager with unlimited funds. Hell of a job for Poch though with all those personalities in that dressing room.

Is a player like Ronaldo not much easier to slot in to a team compared to Messi? I half wonder if, even though Pep obviously knows him, Pep can now avoid the headache of slotting him into that City side and the possible disruption that would bring and the almost expectation of having to always play him. I sense PSG haven’t bought him with any kind of plans of how he’ll fit in exactly. I think they’ve bought him because he’s Messi. Has Messi just become too big?

Mikus and Makโฆsounds like a kidโs programme ๐
Weโll see Brian, I would just have a few worries about harmony in the squad after all this. I think if a player like Bernardo does leave, youโll then really try to buy Kane.

Brian, just looking at some of the City reaction – it does seem common that many City fans want Bernado to stay, even some preferring him to Grealish. Apparently Pep has confirmed there are up to 4 players who want a new challenge, of which Bernado may be one. Do you think the arrival of Grealish (and possibly Kane) has upset the apple cart too much in terms of discontentment in the squad? It may all work out well, but you are taking risks with the feeling in the squad with these things. Or does this discontentment in some players go back further?

I’m not sure Mak. Last season just didn’t feel as serious – that’s not to take anything away from those who had success. But because there were a lot of strange results, it gave most of the managers a much wider berth in terms of any expectation. And the very low number of managerial changes during the season confirms that. So we have to look at that season more in that context for me. Ole did well under those conditions. But he’s walking into very different ones this season. I agree the pressure won’t be on him immediately because of last season. But as time goes on, the pressure will start to be felt. He may deal with it well, or he may not. But until we know, I can’t factor last season’s result’s to influence my opinion of Man Utd for the coming season.
