Ed, I just don’t think any of the 3 sides going for the title are top, top level. I think City are still very good but have lost a few match winners in their team (I also think Aguero was better than Haaland in that regard as mad as that might sound). I think Liverpool have a spirit in the team but again lack match winners and do seem to be edging out games here and there. Arsenal again have a good spirit about them and are very solid but again lack the quality up top in big moments to turn games.
Out of the six head to head games between the 3 teams at the top of the table, 4 have ended in a draw, which I think demonstrates how little there is between them.
In terms of looking for a stat this season to gauge things – I would look to what I think Alex Ferguson said some years ago that the title winners can’t afford to lose more than around 3 games a season in the league.

Bizarrely Sean, it’s the slow starts and conceding early that keeps waking us up and seems to give us the drive to keep winning games.

The title race now is just a case of who blinks first. 8 to go…

We’ll take that! I don’t think City are at the levels they were a few seasons back. Arsenal a lot more solid but lack something up top. And we’re still very dependent on Salah. Key he stays fit now with Jota to hopefully come back soon.

Haaland scores a lot of goals. But is he a match winner in the same way Aguero was?

Who would you give it to Ed?

As I keep saying, the zero goal difference for Man Utd in the table sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the teams around them. As it did last season. Just 40 goals scored (& conceded) this season. The teams above them have scored at least 20 more. Ten Hag surely can’t survive this season.

Strongly suspect it will be Amorim now (from Sporting Lisbon).

In some ways I have great admiration for Alonso for not succumbing to temptation to take a bigger job if he perhaps doesn’t quite feel ready yet and/or has a very good environment at Leverkusen to keep developing things. Obviously disappointing for us. There’s also the problem you often have with the first manager following a long standing manager being a difficult challenge. On the other side of the coin I question how much further he can take Leverkusen if he wins it this season with them and they obviously won’t have the budget of the big CL clubs. But it’s obviously his prerogative.

To be fair Ed those managers won big trophies and were either very good tactically or good motivators or both. I think Southgate is Mr.Sensible and Mr.Safe. Yes he’s done a few sensible things in the England camp. But as somebody to really galvanise a dressing room into battle, he’s just not that person. And in the big moments I don’t see very much. Perfectly nice chap I’m sure. But he’s there because there was no other English manager available. Which is a damning indictment really.

It is staggering Ed how some people seriously think he could do a good job at a big premier league club. I just think he plays it safe, has little in the way of charisma but is fortunate he has some great players at his disposal.

Indeed Banjo. We put a strong team out today but it’s as though they didn’t play the occasion vs Utd being such a big game. Just too casual. Utd did well to keep coming back. But we helped them and it’s as though we thought the game was won before it even started.

Awful. Just looked too casual today. We also still have a goal scoring problem from our strikers, particularly in big games. Don’t think Nunez has scored against any of the top sides this season. Salah & Jota are our only reliable scorers. Jota is out & Salah is still coming back somewhat.

We’ve not been aggressive or ruthless enough today.

Yeh I think punditry now is just getting too infected with a lot of school boy humour to get reactions. Embarrassing.

New structure in place. Will we get the final piece in the summer?
🚨🔴 Michael Edwards has reached an agreement with FSG as he returns to Liverpool as crucial figure to help with new project.
After initial approach and new attept revealed in the last two months, it’s now done.
Richard Hughes will also join #LFC as part of new structure. pic.twitter.com/CqxqGy7Krd

Endo’s been fabulous. My only slight qualm today was Nunez going off with 20 minutes still to go. Yes I know he’s coming back and had played on Thursday. But in a game as big as that, you surely leave him on? Gakpo can be quite good in the box, but I think Gary Neville asked the question in a recent commentary whether he struggles with the speed of our attacks sometimes.

I actually agree with Carra’s take on it when he said he agreed with Klopp that it would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch – but Carra then said that there’s an unwritten rule in football that for it to warrant a penalty if it’s in the box – there has to be more than that. In other words, for me anywhere else on the pitch the reason that gets punished is to deter dangerous play rather than giving the opposition a free kick. If the ref had given a yellow card in the box to deter dangerous play he’d also have to have given the penalty. Thats where the grey area is in between.
There was a debate some time ago on here about whether fouls in the box deserve a penalty particularly if they’re not obvious goal scoring chances being denied. And I think this is linked to why some fouls aren’t given in the box when they would be given elsewhere on the pitch.

Draw not disastrous but you really need to be winning these games. Thought Nunez should have stayed on.
