I meant more in terms of squad resilience.

For me his problem is partly his physique. I think he needs to pack a few more pounds to outmuscle people in this league. I just think he was a low risk Β£7 mill punt that’s not paid off and probably isn’t going to. I am starting to worry now we’re becoming a bit Wenger-esque in the transfer market, and won’t buy someone unless 30 boxes can get ticked.

With Saul to Chelsea, they now look bulletproof.

Minamino will be 27 in January. If he’s not made it with us yet, hard to see him making it with us in the future…

If Ben White is going for Β£50 mill, not really a surprise Dan James can go for Β£30 mill. Inflation going through the roof again.

Agree Sean, I really did think something might happen today, but it doesn’t seem to be. Our back up options to bring on are Minamino, Origi & Ox, and Klopp rarely brings them on, indicating he doesn’t fully believe in them. We haven’t even replaced Wijnaldum or Shaqiri. So it seems everything rests on Jones & Elliot. Those aren’t really the actions of a club going for the title.

It might not be a name that particularly excites Arsenal fans, but Eddie Howe is one of the favourites to be next Arsenal manager because as I said in a recent post, now that Arsenal have decided to go down this route of buying young players with potential, it suits someone more like that. He currently doesn’t have a job, he has a strong identity that would suit Arsenal, would I think take the job and would surely be an improvement?

Mak, regarding Henderson, Robertson & Keita, I can never quite understand why managers will still plump for their first choice players even when they’re not completely fit. You see it often in finals when a star man who’s been injured rushes to get fit, the manager plays him, and they rarely do anything because they’re not fit. It doesn’t matter how good they are, if you ain’t fully fit or sharp, you’re not really much use to anyone. So it’s not surprising Robertson & Hendo had average performances. And it’s frustrating when Tsmikas & Keita, who have been much fitter and sharper, were left on the bench.

There is a big media buzz about Chelsea at the moment because of the business theyβve done and because they won the CL last season and are new challengers this season and thatβs understandable. Yesterday was and did feel like a battle between an established power and a rising power.
Chelsea had a more composed first half than Liverpool and edged it in terms of controlling the game, but Liverpool did still get back into it and it is a real shame we couldnβt see what would happen in the second half had both sides had 11 men. Two contrasting styles, but both effective.
For Liverpool, with Van Dijk & co back, a lot of the ingredients are there again that helped them with their success in previous seasons. But I thought Hendo lacked sharpness with him easing his way back in, and I think they are also missing some magic in the middle to break teams down, which has been a problem for some time now. Iβm all for blooding and developing youth, but Iβm just still not sure if Elliot still needs a bit more time, and personally think Keita would have been the better bet yesterday.
As for Chelsea, they look a very resolute team and a very clever one going forwards. They do look like theyβve got that Mourinho-esque infallibility they had under him years ago. Itβs just a question now of whether they can mirror that very high bar of City to win the vast majority of games and be almost flawless, assuming City maintain that bar.

Whilst it’s difficult to play 10 men, we’ve not shown enough quality. An ongoing problem for us. Would have thrown Keita on personally.

It is a shame for the overall game, but it is what it is. What is it with these games that always create these moments?

Red card? I guess the problem is can the ref judge whether it was deliberate? If not deliberate, you can maybe say it was clumsy. But then when you’re last ditch defending you’re going to be clumsy. So, it is perhaps harsh from one point of view, but it’s one of those rare events that can just happen sometimes.

Inadvertently or not, he’s used his arm to stop a goal. That’s the problem.

I think the Arsenal board set this all in motion thinking they were being sensible by spending a lot on young players and that it would all bear fruit under a very young manager who could develop them. Whilst changing the manager may help, any incoming big name manager with big ambition is immediately going to want to spend some money on talent that’s already been developed, so the board would have put their gear in reverse, which they won’t really want to do having spent the money already. I note Brendan Rodgers & Eddie Howe are favourites to be the next Arsenal manager ahead of Conte, so the bookies are reflecting this.

Any ideas the Arsenal board may have had going into this season that they’d be ok have just been mugged by reality. No leadership there, just a vacuum.

Not a good season for Arsenal to participate in “All or nothing”.

Even so Lucky, the players they’ve bought are all for the future. I’m all for planning for the long term, but you have to bring in some players that will make an immediate impact. Or else there’s no foundation on which to build.
