Mak, when I see no.21 going down the wing the ruffled hair, keep thinking Lucas Leiva is back 😁.

Origi looking sharp this season. Welcome news. Again so much better down the middle.

Southgate wouldn’t have lasted long, that’s for sure.

I’m no expert on German culture in football, but I suspect a lot of it is simply that Bayern are better operators than their competitors and now have their very effective modus operandi down to a fine art. Yet for all their dominance, the other clubs seem to have no problem filling their stadia. I think football is seen more of an experience than one based on hell bent on winning. And perhaps because of that, it’s easier for a club who do want to dominate, to take advantage.

Going to be some competition for Haaland you’d think next summer. 11 in 8 so far this season. Great goal at the end today…

Like England in the final, big mistake bringing on a player who has yet to kick a ball to take such a big penalty.

Got to be a penalty surely?

Quite a few tight games yesterday, even if some of them did end up as 3-0 games. It’s obviously been said before, but a big difference between the top sides is the quality to finish chances along with the quality at the back and general resilience in the team.
Be a very interesting test for Solksjaer at West Ham today. In Ronaldo, he now has a player who I think can bail him out in a lot of games. But over the course of the season, will it be enough? Still not sure enough is right there.
As for Pep, I don’t doubt they’re capable of going on another run, but last season they really didn’t have any competition. And whilst they still score goals, players like Aguero are irreparable and make a huge difference in the big games. Still don’t quite get why they didn’t seem to go that bit further for Kane given they clearly wanted him.

Man City & Pep. At the start of the season, although there is a lot of quality there, I did express concerns with the harmony in the team. I think there were several in there who were looking to move on, but never did, and that’s not really a good thing. When they get into their groove and flow, they can look very good. But like Lucky, I do wonder if there is something not quite right there.

We’ve all questioned Origi, but he did OK last night, probably because he played more centrally which is more his position. It never suits him if he gets put on the wing.

That’s the worry Sean, that we’re just too dependent on Van Dijk (at both ends of the field). I think Klopp was right that we got carried away towards the end of the first half but the concern was nobody on the pitch identified it, perhaps Van Dijk would have done.
I think Gomez has good pace but is perhaps not as good a reader of the game. Whereas I think Matip doesn’t have the pace but is a better reader of the game. But neither are an organiser or leader like Van Dijk is.

No qualms with the energy levels tonight. But we were just a bit casual at the end of the first half and switched off a bit and even a small dip in your level can make a big difference at this level. That is the problem with playing such a way, you’ve got to be on it all the time. Few changes to the starting line up maybe unsettled us a bit and made us a bit less assured than our usual selves.

In some ways were seeing both the good and the bad, or all our strengths and weaknesses played out in that first half.

This is it though Mak, should be 4 or 5 up ain’t the same as actually being 4 or 5 up.
Also Fabinho was beaten easily for the second goal – why I just don’t rate him highly – when our tails are up and we’re pressing he looks good. But otherwise, I think he can get passed easily and just doesn’t have the pace.

Is this demonstrating we just don’t have the depth in quality when others come in when we rest first teamers?

Tuchel has been at Chelsea for just 9 months; Solksjaer has been there for nearly 3 years. But Man Utd are still “trying to get to that point”. Really??

Problem is, after bringing in such talent all over the pitch now, Solksjaer could start to become Man Utd’s limiting factor. And stats like these don’t help.
13% – Manchester United have lost seven of their 11 UEFA Champions League matches under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. 13% of their total defeats in the competition have come under Solskjær (7/54), despite the Norwegian only being in charge for 4.8% of their matches (11/231). Fall. pic.twitter.com/5e49OVY63B
