I think Blair’s ‘send everyone to university’ idea is coming home to roost. We need to reinvest in trades and technical schools and stop thinking everyone needs a degree. In any case degrees aren’t what they once were.

Firmino for Jones also a strange one at that point in the game.

I think a combination of a high line and Brentford throwing a few bodies up top meant we really struggled. But can’t see Klopp changing it, it’s how he plays it.

Fair play to Brentford, but embarrassing at the back for us.

Crazy Mak. A simple ball over the top can undo us.

City were very good today, but given how Chelsea dominated Spurs last week, strange for them not to impose themselves more on the game. It ended up all out attack vs all in defence for much of that first hour.

Norwich losing again. Fans may like more exciting football even though they may not stay up playing it, but surely Norwich can’t keep going on like this?

Am surprised Lucky, especially as you say given your recent record against them. It’s like you gave them too much respect. You defended generally well but went too deep and gave yourself no outlets up top whatsoever. And you can’t sustain that for 90 mins. Surprising from Tuchel that.

Pressure mounting on Ole.

Rover, am also surprised also Tuchel didn’t change it sooner. It didn’t need a huge change, it just needed Chelsea to impose themselves more in the game. Now they’re playing more into City’s hands by having to go for it.

Chelsea probably guilty of defending too deeply with very few outlets up top.

Adlab, that’s exactly the Chelsea plan. They’re quite happy for you to have a lot of the ball and soak up the pressure, and then hit you on the counter. If I was Pep, I’d ease back a bit and try and draw Chelsea out.

Looks like City are still going for it. But I think they seem to be forgetting, to use the anology of the three pigs, that Chelsea’s house is made from bricks. So they can huff & puff all they want, not sure it’s going to blow them down and they could well fall into the Chelsea trap…again.

If City lose to Chelsea, then that will be four straight defeats to them in all competitions. I think that will be preying on Pep’s mind. So how does he play it? On one hand you want to play to the strengths of the team in terms of attacking, but if bold, that can be too risky and cause mistakes which plays right into Chelsea’s hands. And we saw how that played out in the CL final.
Perhaps City can look to the way Real Madrid played it against Atletico Madrid in the CL final some years ago I think – let Atletico have a lot of the ball and then draw them out and attack them. I think that’s the way you increase the risk of Chelsea making mistakes, which is what they usually do to City. So turn the tables on them.

You can generally see why the big clubs like to wait for a smaller club to take a punt on a player from another league and see how they do in the premier league, before then going for them, albeit at a much higher price. But such is the competition now, big clubs are going directly to the source of these players abroad. But the results can then be mixed.

No worries Ed, just didn’t want to steal Mak’s praise.
What are you thoughts on Sancho so far? Few United fans I’ve spoken to a bit frustrated with him. But it’s obviously very early days. Problem nowadays is if you don’t immediately hit the ground running, questions quickly get asked.

Just to be clear, it was Mak not me who was quoted about saying the cup wouldn’t save Ole.

I think Minamino can look a very clever player when he’s in the box, but doesn’t seem very effective outside it.
