Sean, be interesting to see how Keane gets on if he goes back into management which I think he wants to. Always thought he did well at Sunderland – think he was too hard on himself which he admits now. Think he said Ipswich was never right for him. The recent interview he did with Gary Neville was quite good on the Overlap.

Ed, yes there is indeed nostalgia also at play in wanting to bring in a new Ferguson type figure back or someone who will play their way. But do you prioritise that vs actually winning things? You can see their theory – bring someone in, like Ole, who as you say at least throws in the youngsters even if the football isn’t great. And then, this season, you throw in some star names like Varane & Ronaldo and cross your fingers that that will take care of the winning & attacking football side of things. Well that has proved to be disastrous this season because Ole isn’t quite as good as they thought. And the board must be starting to scratch their heads now, thinking, now what do we do?

I think there’s a degree of shock at play here. Although they finished 2nd last season, it was a very weak league. And the record away run was largely achieved without any fans in the stadia. This season Man Utd have barely played any big teams yet up until last week. But now reality has finally bitten. I think this has caught the board like a rabbit finally in the headlights and for the moment, and I don’t think they want to face it just yet and are probably in a degree of shock. And then to boot, Ole has had to deal with rising expectations.
But most people want to turn away from reality, particularly when they’ve kidded themselves for a long time that everything was fine.

Problem is Mak, when Klopp does leave, I’d be surprised if we get the best manager available. They’ll want someone to try and do another long term build and be more ‘patient’ whilst not whinging to the directors and also having to work on a budget. Not many top managers would want to work under such circumstances even if it was managing Liverpool. Hence Stevie would be very attractive, assuming he continues to develop reasonably well.

American owners do generally seem to be more distant with regards to the running of their clubs. They seem happy to let things run themselves whilst their assets increase in value. Man Utd have Ole. Arsenal have Arteta. When Klopp leaves I wonder if we’ll have our Ole/Arteta moment with Stevie. Dare I say such managers are also low risk with regards to falling out with the board.

I can’t see the 2030 deadline being met to stop the sale of any new petrol cars. These measures are frenzied and panicked and as usual the poor will suffer the most. We’d have been far better investing in the local railways again and getting people out of cars that way. It’s also a more sociable way to travel vs everyone sitting in their own angry bubble in their cars.

Good to hear from you Hightown, hope all is well. Salah just jaw dropping at the moment. It might have been said that Suarez had a bit more skill about him, but not anymore. The way he’s beating people now – even if he finds himself completely surrounded – is Maradona like. Just so strong, so skillful, and so clinical.
