So long as Origi plays up top in the middle rather than getting put on the wing.

Itโs ultimately a question of how consistently you can line up. That period last season where the defence and midfield were changing and players were being used out of position is ultimately what did for us.

Talking of key players, I still donโt think City have replaced Aguero. He scored some real key goals for City. Yes, they won last season without him playing as much, but they also won the league under a lockdown year with a winning points total of just 86 points, 13 points lower than previous seasons, so we need to have that context, not that they didnโt deserve to win it, but the competition was much reduced. Yes they are still scoring goals, but my point would be Aguero gave them more of an edge. One possible bit of hope for the teams chasing?

Sterling & Silva were rumoured to be open from offers from City over the summer. But both playing a key part this season. The problem for a player potentially leaving City is that anywhere else is going to be a step downwards.

Got to hand it to West Ham. Both Liverpool & now Chelsea despatched at home. If you have a go at the big teams and/or are physical, the big teams don’t like it.

Maybe not Lucky, but just having that physical presence in the box in a game like this helps.

Just goes to show no matter how good the team you play, if you have the confidence and players to have a go, you’ll always have a chance.

Think Lukaku should help Chelsea in a game like this.

Granted his squad deficiencies, I think the problem for Rafa is in this era of high intensity pressing & fast football, you need a manager to really galvanize a dressing room with passion & motivation. I don’t think man management has ever been his strong point. A big reason I think for Gerrard’s good start at Villa is precisely because of that – there is a real hunger and desire in that Villa side now. With Rafa, that kind of more calm, tactical management with more school teacher like instructions (I would presume) really struggles in this climate of fast paced, more no holds barred culture.

In theory it shouldnโt be a bad appointment. But its the fact that the club are having to reset again after previously going into this season with big expectations after finishing 2nd last year and signing Ronaldo and others to presumably start challenging. I guess the only way can be up for Rangnick. But youโd expect him to be a longer game manager than one to quickly turn things around. Personally Iโd have thought it would have made more sense to have thrown Conte in, then reset thereafter with someone more of Rangnickโs ilk, as it will now probably be at least another season without a trophy. How exactly is he going to handle Ronaldo for example?

And Carrick stands down and overtakes Sir Alex with the best win percentage at Man Utd with 66.7%.

Is Aubamayang just too comfortable with not enough competition and/or not enough top players around him? After being a CL club, Arsenal seem to have deliberately not targeted top players, instead targeting young and upcoming ones to play the longer term game, a bit like Liverpool did with the transfer committee in the early days. Which had very mixed results.

Just shows no matter how much money you throw at it, without the right leadership, recruitment team, manager & players, you might as well throw the money out the window.

This is it Sean. I accept a bit of banter is part of the pantomime of it all. But to hurl abuse with the venom that some fans do, that’s just hatred and anger and is ultimately dehumanising. And it should be condemned. But I rarely see it condemned.

What gets me Mak is whilst racism obviously gets rightly flagged up any time it raises its head (as well as coin throwing), all other non racist abuse is effectively just accepted as part of the game. I think the commentator said Salah was just being goaded by some of the Everton fans last night, as though thatโs just a normal part of the game to be tolerated.
If people really want to know why racism still exists, itโs because itโs rooted in the general hatred that is in the stands. Crazy to criticise one part of that hatred, but accept the other. Until all abuse is criticised, nothing will change. But I think part of it is that culturally, many fans think itโs acceptable to hurl abuse because itโs all part of letting their hair down and cleansing themselves of any inner frustrations. But it isnโt.

Interesting as Henry said after the game, every team outside the top 4 either has a zero or negative goal difference. A lot of teams outside the top 4 are underperforming or simply aren’t very competitive.

The key games this season will be the head to heads, and the games vs more physical teams. City have lost to Palace, Liverpool have lost to West Ham & Chelsea dropped points vs Burnley and a more resolute Man Utd team. Injuries will also play a part.
