As I said on the other thread, a big problem for Rafa is that man management and the ability to really galvanise a dressing room are such important attributes in this era of the Premier league. And they’re not his strong points. Even so, I doubt even a real galvaniser could get that much more out of this group.

Is there currently an argument that the £100 mill signing of Grealish has actually worked better not so much for him but it has worked to elevate the form of Sterling & Bernado Silva in terms of adding competition? That’s not to say he won’t still come good, but that’s what appears to have happened so far.

Brian, I suspect Haaland will be on City’s radar for the summer. They still haven’t replaced Aguero, and contrary to the idea teams don’t need strikers anymore, I think any top team would want Haaland. You always want a player that can pull a rabbit out the hat when nothing else seems to be working.

Hard to see the CL winner not coming from England this season. Competition isn’t too great. The top Italian sides have been beaten. Barca obviously have had their problems, but Atletico haven’t been particularly great. PSG haven’t looked like they’ve improved greatly either. Which basically leaves Bayern & Real to scrap it out with the English teams, unless there’s going to be an underdog story.

I think the other problem for Arteta is they’re just not aggressive enough. A manager really needs to galvanise a dressing room now and really get the team up for the fight. Is Arteta capable of that? They also lack experienced characters. Aubameyang should be the person they’re looking to. But there seem to be problems there as the pundits discussed last night.
