Nil, Matip arguably offers more creativity than our midfield.

Nil, that is indeed where the fingers should be pointed last night. Rather than being frustrated at Mane, where were the other players? Could they not make things happen or score goals?

Yes, but not as robust as City Nine. City can make changes seamlessly and still deliver comfortably. We just can’t. If the bar wasn’t so high with the competition with City, we’d just shrug our shoulders and could afford to take a defeat. But up against City you have to be perfect.

The problem with Mane is that he’s not really a striker. He’s a winger who exceeds expectations with the goals he scores. So when he goes through a more barren spell, the pressure increases on him, perhaps unfairly. Minamino doesn’t really have the attributes to be a like for like change for Mane. He’s more of a box player imo. And Klopp won’t change the system just for Minamino. In some ways I think we’re the victim of our rigid 433 system.

I never thought we’d be a particularly robust side under Klopp. We seem to need too many things to be right for us to perform. To this day, I’m still puzzled about what happened last season – in those 4 straight defeats we still had the front 3 playing, we still had a recognised midfield – we just had a bit of a makeshift defence. I think there was more of a confidence issue there. We do seem to miss a real galvaniser in the team – somebody to grab the game by the scruff of the neck if things aren’t happening. It all just seems to be a load of cogs in a machine, that when on a run of form, things go well. But disturb that with either a few changes or the timing of our games, and we suddenly look out of sorts very quickly.

If I was a Leicester fan, I’d be thinking we do we have to wait for a few bad results to react like that? I know it’s the case with all teams that sometimes you seem to need a bit of a crisis to wake up and react and refocus. But it really shouldn’t take such things to do so. I think it really is time to consider performance related pay.

I might try a trick that seems to work on here…
It will be a comfortable win for City tomorrow!

Ironically, for all Jurgen’s frustrations about having to play so many games, when our game was cancelled on Sunday, it probably disrupted our flow. It kind of reminded me a few seasons back when we came to Leicester off the back of a training camp abroad, and we just didn’t look in the groove at all. On the other side of the coin, a resolute performance from Leicester after a few poor results.

A combination of Leicester reacting to recent results and us missing some sitters.

Is there an argument Matip is one of our best dribblers? Get the guy up top π

26th December 2021 at 3:55 pm in reply to: Week 19: With a bit of 18, 17 & 16 thrown in…. :) #192178Leeds, Newcastle & Leicester. Could there have been a better run of fixtures for City over the Christmas period?

Messi could do things no other player could. Ronaldo could be thrown into any side and deliver immediately. That’s always the way I look at it. Personally, I’ve always favoured Maradona because he also had the strength and physique to drive past people.

I think that’s probably it Mak, but then, it’s not great if we have a midfielder not able to always commit. And that moment effectively led to us conceding.

I thought Jamie Redknapp made a good point about Winks I think it was who was more aggressive to win the ball from Keita in the build up to the Kane goal. Itβs in those moments that battles are won and the tide of the game can change. Maybe itβs just me but Keita does seem to shy away from those kind of ball winning moments. Thiago can also be very casual when fit. We need to sharpen up in some moments.

We need to start making VAR accountable. The refs should have to explain why Robertson was sent off but Kane wasnβt.

Agree Mak, weβre just too vulnerable at times. Too reliant on last ditch defending.
