Conte & Levy were both using each other to some extent. What they’re using each other for though is something of a mystery.

You’d expect Newcastle to stay up. Look a different side now.

It’s a cold, wet and windy day at Turf Moor.

2nd goal came in the end. Lovely set up by Matip who really does have a silky touch for a defender.

I’m very fond of cats and have had several in my life and am better for it. No one here condones the actions of Zouma and what he did. And West Ham would have been best suspending him for a few games – if anything just to get him out the spotlight and better deal with it internally. We are a nation of animal lovers – what is curious though is how we can be more outraged and shocked over such things than we are over incidents involving our fellow human beings. We have young kids now basically going around stabbing each other in our major cities and it seems to have become normalised. But somebody mistreats a cat, and our outrage seems to know no bounds.

Salah will have played 4 games of 120 minutes each in the space of 12 days. He’ll need a break.

Think some of the Premier league teams are struggling to get back into their groove after the break.

Fair play to Plymouth, they’re having a go. Is it me or are some of the smaller teams starting to feel more confident vs the bigger teams now? Related to the higher press the bigger teams adopt? Feels more like the FA Cup of old.

Regarding the hand ball, I think common sense would say to me that even if the contact was accidental – the contact on the ball actually helped the attacking player gain an advantage because the ball would have drifted away from him had he not caught it – by touching it, it kept the ball close to his body and allowed him to help keep the move alive. But common sense has long gone over such matters.

I think Man Utd look more cohesive under Rangnick and look more of a team but I think they lack ruthlessness under him. So they’re better but not that much better. Yes it’s early days, but even in Klopp’s early days you saw his traits very quickly in the team and we even got to finals under him in his first season when we had no real right to. Rangnick looks what he is – a bridge the gap manager with a methodical demeanour. I think the next manager has to be more of a galvaniser. I hear what Ed says about Ten Hag and I understand the idea of wanting to instil a football philosophy and have a long term continuity at the club for the fans to attach themselves to but I just think a manager at a club like Man Utd has to be a real leader and galvaniser to move them back where they want to be. All the best managers are. The days of a Wenger type revolution I think are over. I accept there aren’t many candidates that spring to mind for Man Utd, but I still would have put Conte in charge even if he can be volatile. You could have then changed him as soon as a better more long term candidate became available. That’s what ruthless winning clubs do – use people and then have the guts to change things when they think necessary even if that may initially be unpopular. But I think the Man Utd board are just desperate to find a silver bullet who will take care of everything so they don’t have to make many decisions like they had under Ferguson. But life rarely works out like that.

Nine, I think with some transfers you simply need that time pressure of an approaching deadline for a breakthrough in negotiations and also for a decision to be have to be made. Many negotiations in all walks of life go to the 11th hour. Or perhaps it is sometimes tactical to try and force a move with time pressure whilst also trying to avoid a bidding war with other clubs if you move too early.

Not seen him play Sean. Free hit really for us. If it doesn’t work out, it shouldn’t have cost us a lot. But given our general good record in the market now, you’d think there should be something there that they’ve seen in him.

Β£37.5 mil is a great price. Crazy to think that all of Salah, ManΓ©, Jota & now Luis Diaz have each cost us no more than Β£40 mil.

Origi can be effective when played in the centre, up top. I think the same applies to Minamino but Origi has proved better overall. Maybe hold on to Origi but don’t see much point holding onto Minamino.

4 of the 5 bottom clubs in the league have now changed their manager since the start of the season. That tells its own story.

It does seem as Nine said that Lampard was simply the last man standing for the Everton job. Not sure it is the wisest move for him at this stage, you wouldn’t say they’re a well run club on the up vs the situation that Gerrard has gone into at Villa. On the other hand, maybe the expectations won’t be particularly high on him other than staying up.

As for Barca, looks like they’ve had to sell their soul to compete again. You can’t make the catastrophic errors they’ve made over the last years and not have any consequences. Think Sky pointed out that for the Β£142 odd million that Liverpool sold Coutinho to Barcelona for, Liverpool have bought the likes of Mane, Salah, Jota & now Diaz all for a combined similar amount.

Bobby I think is in decline now but may be useful for another season but I guess it depends on how much his wages are. Mane been blowing hot and cold for some time but competition could just be what he needs. Have to see what happens in the summer, but exciting to have all these players until then anyway. It’s lifted January.
