Has Conte really left his previous clubs in worse states than he found them? He left Inter as a league champion, and left Chelsea as a premier league winner and an FA Cup winner.

The only post Fergie Man Utd managers who have actually won trophies of note are Van Gaal & Mourinho, i.e. big names. Moyes & Solksjaer, the longer term men, didn’t win anything. As I said before, the spending power of Utd is actually causing them a problem in that because they simply have the money to spend, it gets the better of them and they keep spending big on players. So in that sense, Conte would actually make a lot more sense, volatile or not. If Man Utd are to go with a long term man, they also need the recruitment structure in place to take control of the situation. Is that going to happen? I can’t help but feel that if things aren’t going well on the pitch, the Glazers will react and bring in a big name to appease the fans. So somebody somewhere needs to take control of that club. They’ve been drifting since Fergie left. But there’s the real root of the problem – where is the leadership in that club? And with the incoming revenues still high, where is the motivation to change things? Hence only when those revenue streams start declining will you think things may change.

When the question was put to the pundits yesterday as to why shouldn’t Man Utd do an Arsenal and effectively decide to take a step backwards to try and go forwards by putting in a young manager and only buying young players, they replied that it’s because of the spending power and size of the club. And here is the big problem. Man Utd seem to on one hand want to be patient with the right man and build more slowly, but at the same time they want to spend big money on big names to try and stay at the top. It’s a contradiction. Their plan is contrary to their actions. So the mad thing is, Man Utd, as Ed alludes to, are going to have to wait until they start finishing outside the top 4 and become really average, before the culture can change and they stop trying to throw money and big names at it. As ever in life, you often have to wait for the crisis before things finally change. But boy has some money been blown over the last decade.

As Roy Keane said 3 years ago now I think…”Man Utd players will throw Solksjaer under the bus like they did to Mourinho.” What’s changed since then?

That’s it nil. He’s like a school teacher in that sense. They all look like they’re just doing a job because they’ve been told to rather than them actually wanting to. Though the club also need to clear some of those players out.

City toying with them now. Just appears very little team spirit in that Man Utd side. That’s a big part of their problem, and has been for some time.

I think that’s a fair summary Sean. Rangnick has definitely steadied the ship and they’re more consistent. But will he start to feel the pressure from Arsenal now?

I know what you mean nil, but just think he ended up running into people too often today. Needed to move the ball a bit quicker. Dare I say this without sounding too picky given our recent form, but in these physical games, perhaps we could do with some physicality up top.

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this…
So if Liverpool make it to the CL quarters and the FA Cup semis, drawing City in both… our April could be:
5/6 April – Man City – CL
10 April – Man City – PL
12/13 April – Man City – CL
16/17 April – Man City – FA Cup
19/20 April – Man United – PL
23/24 April – Everton – PL— Ryan (@ryan3levis) March 4, 2022

Stop using ‘Diaz’ Adlab. Your player is ‘Dias’. You keep worrying me everytime you say ‘Diaz is out for 6 weeks.’ 😂

You never know what’s around the corner. End of an era. He certainly supercharged the premier league when he came in. Different thing today.

Hell of a finish from Matip. I actually think he could play as a no.10. Such a silky touch for a defender. A good dribbler too!

Didn’t Conte say after the City game they were the best players he’d ever worked with?

Yeh Sean, I thought the same watching MOTD last night. Both City and Liverpool commit so many going forwards that they leave huge gaps at the back.
I still think it’s City’s to lose, and it could well be another basketball game at the Etihad when both meet up.

Conte could not accept another defeat today, if anything for his own reputation than the pressure from Spurs. As Souness said afterwards though, he can’t really continue to play that way at Spurs, particularly at home.

Strange isn’t it, but I just didn’t expect Conte to lose another game on the bounce. Not that I thought they’d win. But I’ll take that.
