Might have to throw Origi into the mix again. Need that other body in there ideally.

Madrid did make a good comeback. Looks like they do still have something about them. City should still have enough, but should be a good second leg.

Madrid do still have some good players, and Benzema arguably in the form of his life. But they aren’t the side they were.

Chelsea were the architects of their own downfall in that first leg vs Madrid. Should have beaten them. City unsurprisingly making mince meat of them. Villareal in some ways may prove the more difficult task.

Makes sense Ed. Look forward to the battles between Conte & Leonardo.

Adlab, it is wrong to have Carragher doing these games. Sky are basically turning it into a fanzone commentary.

Got a bit worried there, but Origi delivers again. Everton must be looking into the abyss now.

Conte needs big bucks to spend so he couldn’t suit Spurs less. Suspect he’s there until a money club comes calling. As for Arteta, the team have no real established stars with quality to compete at the top – as I said, they seem to have deliberately only targeted youth and potential – so would a bigger name manager get much more out of that team?

Think Watford have been gone for sometime now.

Big game between Leicester & Villa. Gerrard really needs to avoid a 5th straight defeat, which would leave the club where they were when he took over.

What always struck me as odd with Arsenal was to never buy any established stars at least with some proven credentials and top level experience. They seem to have deliberately bought young players with potential which limits their movement up the table. Also, like a lot of English players, don’t get the hype with Saka.

Footballers taking short penalty run ups. Why do they keep doing it?

Yeh, when Rodgers came into Liverpool, we were lingering in the relegation zone early on, but then improved and finished 7th, having the 4th highest number of goals scored in the league. We then challenged the following season. Shows what can be done in just 2 years!

That’s the key question Ed – the club needs a revolution but won’t want to sink too far down the league what with share price and things. Indeed remember how Utd’s share price was boosted after Ronaldo signed. Ten Hag won’t be interested in such things.

Confirmed. Club no doubt eager to make this announcement to try and move on from current gloom.

20th April 2022 at 12:10 pm in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &🎉 ⚽️FA Cup Semi Finals 🎉⚽️🏆 #195563Actually felt sorry for De Gea last night. Looked like the only one that cared. Carragher made the interesting point that even under poor owners at Liverpool, the club still had fighters and characters in their dressing room. Utd appear to have very very few. I do think it’s Man Utd’s shear size globally and financially that has caused a problem. Liverpool have always maintained that kind of working class ethic at the club even though it too is a big club around the world. But at Man Utd, I think there’s been more of a corporate culture upstairs at the club as it got richer and richer and hence there’s been more of a disconnect between the fans and the global franchise of the club.

Hence you can understand Ten Hag wants as much control as possible.

19th April 2022 at 10:07 pm in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &🎉 ⚽️FA Cup Semi Finals 🎉⚽️🏆 #195550Have to spend money wisely though Adlab. As regards cycles, I think it’s more that if you have one manager there for a long long time like SAF, who inevitably had strong influence on things around him – when that manager then leaves, it leaves a vacuum in terms of both the manager and structure at the club. They also lost their CEO in David Gill at the same time as Sir Alex which didn’t help. So it was a big rebuilding job for the owners, who responded, in my opinion, half heartedly.

Adlab, I don’t think SAF has helped lingering around the club and being a ghost on the wall. But the root cause is the Glazers who have just run the club half heartedly in the background.

Brian, I’m sure Pep would want Haaland to press and work hard no doubt, and he’s not been in the Premier league yet, but very hard not to see him not delivering for you. He has 58 goals in 63 appearances for Dortmund & 15 in 17 for Norway. Would have him at Liverpool for sure, though I’d be quite happy to go for Darwin Nunez from Benfica who would be half the price.
