I think Gerrard’s ambition got the better of him. He was only still raw as a manager and needed to either stay longer at Rangers, find a smaller club in the Premier League or an up and coming team in the Championship where the pressure and expectation would be lower, he’d be less in the public eye and he’d be freer to make mistakes as he made his way in his management career. Will probably have to drop down to the Championship now.

Gerrard sacked. Not a surprise. Where does he go now? Can Villa attract Poch?

Yes that’s fair Nine, as I say, I just think Klopp is frustrated that its going to be a transition season because of the lack of reinforcements in midfield. And he looks over at City who did sort out the recruitment they needed and continue to fly. Don’t think the club is quite out the woods yet. Yes the last few games have been more positive but the home crowd has been a big lift and the team looks like it’s still struggling to get out of 2nd gear. West Ham weren’t particularly great last night but they should have scored and so could have easily drawn.

There’s of course no doubt big spending helps, but as we all also know, the right manager has and always will be equally as big a factor on a club’s success, and when Pep leaves City, they just won’t be as dominant as they are now. I think Klopp is particularly irked his own club made a mess of things over the summer, particularly over the midfield, though he exacerbated that himself by stressing that no midfielder was needed, then backtracking at the last minute by saying he was wrong and they did and then panic bought another injury prone midfielder. (They probably needed 2 midfielders). Now he has something of a rebuild/transition at Liverpool whilst City bought Haaland & others and continue to fly high. Think that’s what’s got his goat.

Spurs are generally solid with some very good players here and there, but I just think they lack characters and top quality throughout the team to take them up a notch. Hence they can fade in these big away games.

Liverpool still struggling to get out of second gear this season. But two wins & clean sheets much needed.

If Poch isn’t back in the PL at some point this season, I’ll eat my hat…
Aston Villa will make an ambitious attempt to convince Mauricio Pochettino to step back into management as Steven Gerrard enters the most critical week of his year in charge | @Matt_Law_DT, @SamWallaceTel & @JBurtTelegraph https://t.co/uCtOxaxxpN

As I’ve said before, there is now a culture where it’s deemed acceptable to chant aggressively at the opposition which is deemed as ‘banter’ and thus deemed an acceptable way to let your hair down – but you can’t act surprised when such chants turn into more vile chants and coin throwing by more thuggish elements. It is baked into the “bread and circuses” of it all. What I don’t quite get – if there was racist abuse, it would rightly be widely covered and discussed by the media for weeks on end and what else can be done about it. But other abuse and coin throwing – that barely gets a mention and quickly gets swept under the carpet.

Is there a worse post match interviewer than Geoff Shreeves with leading questions?
“How much of a role did the crowd play today?” 🙄
To Van Dijk, “You sensed the danger and got there just before Haaland and stopped him scoring.”
Van Dijk, “Yes, that’s what defenders do.” 😜

It would be absolutely typical of us to be the first team this season to stop City scoring in the league after our recent awful defensive record.

Think it would be more a “mutual decision” if it ever happened Sean.
Team has looked a lot better as expected. But not doing enough damage up top. Nunez?

I’m not necessarily advocating Klopp’s departure, but I just think it could now be a possibility this season. The team has only got convincing wins against Bournemouth & Rangers who aren’t currently top quality opposition. So it’s hard to see what will regalvanise this team over the season, even if it does get a result today. Yes Klopp could withstand an off season from the owners point of view. But it’s the whole feeling I’m getting at the moment with the squad, it just feels very tired and Klopp looks increasingly frustrated. He was at Dortmund for seven years. The same sort of cycle coming to an end at Liverpool?

Liverpool will no doubt rustle themselves up for today’s big game and probably dig out a performance. But as Nine says, they’ll struggle to sustain it over a season, particularly with that midfield. The goals will continue to get shipped.
And just a few words on Jurgen with his comments about City and not being able to compete with them. One may have *some* sympathy with that but then Jurgen has proved he can compete with them over recent seasons. He just strikes me as getting increasingly agitated and frustrated with it all and the club and is now sending a message to his players that they can’t compete at the top. I think Klopp leaving the club could now be a serious possibility this season. It just feels like the party’s over.

Only thing is from the viewer perspective, you can imagine all the streaming companies queuing up to take a portion of the pie, so for fans to watch all the games, they’ll have to pay subscriptions to several more companies. Or buy more expensive match day passes just for one game. So you could imagine the underground streaming will continue.

It’s not just the defence Nine, the midfield has been woeful at protecting them this season.
