Always got the impression this wasn’t far round the corner. Given the club was bought for around £300 mill and is now worth billions it’s not been a bad investment. In the hands of the Gods now.

The problems remain, but if the attack performs it always gives us a chance.

We’ve won 4, lost 4 and drawn 4. This is season is like a box of chocolates as Forrest Gump would say. You never know what you’re going to get.

Nil, I think spending all that on Nunez but not addressing the midfield was like buying a raw power supercar but ignoring the subsidence in your house.

“United Tottenham and Arsenal have had their moments too and I’m expecting all three to weaken as the season progresses. City are untouchable and will end up way clear at the top come May.”
Indeed Chelsea1967.

To be honest Ed, that period a few seasons back we lost 6 games – I still think it was also more down to the form of the attack back then who just looked tired. But it just needed time to recover as there was still enough in the tank overall for it to come good again. Whereas the situation we face now looks more serious. Midfield is aging and injury prone and just looks spent. The attack is going through a transition with Firmino aging, and Nunez is looking very raw still. Diaz is injured and Salah is blowing hot and cold. Defence could come good again but its hard to lift yourself when things are as they are.
We could limp to January and hope to perhaps bring in some midfielders – but then, it’s going to be a harder sell then to bring them in to an average team. This is the problem of supposedly waiting to sign Bellingham next season. You can’t wait around in this climate of big spending clubs.

Can’t see Klopp being sacked as such Ed, and he’s obviously a great coach. But this is another rebuild job now, and if we don’t make top 4 (which is looking less and less likely) its going to be a more difficult and longer rebuild. Has Klopp got the energy for that? I saw some of this coming this season but didn’t think it would be quite as bad as this. Just feeling like another Klopp 7 year cycle could be coming to an end. Not addressing an aging and injury prone midfield over summer was a catastrophic mistake.

Ed, but this is an average Liverpool team this season.

You open up an interesting question Steveo. Does Pep’s smart attire give him an edge? I’m half serious 😁 Get Klopp in a suit immediately!

Actually, myself & Sean did Nine 😁

Sean, I think what exacerbates things is that Elliot & Carvalho are really better in the front 3 than the midfield 3 but have had to be drafted into midfield because we’re so short there. As for Thiago, even when he comes back, how long is he going to be back for with his injury record? He just can’t be relied upon.
One thought that’s been creeping in – would we now be in a better position had we bought 2 ready to go midfielders rather than Nunez? We’d maybe be a bit short in attack but think we’d just about get away with it. But the midfield situation is now pretty much catastrophic for me.

The two recent wins papered over the cracks. The team is in a significant transition period now with a gaping hole in midfield. Still think Klopp leaving at some point is a possibility – not for competency reasons, but more out of fatigue for another rebuild.

Indeed Sean, I’m not convinced we’ve turned things around yet. The two recent wins have obviously been welcome, but still weren’t convincing enough for me to suddenly say we’re back. We look pretty lightweight in midfield.
