Didn’t see this one coming…
Discussions between Steven Gerrard and Poland are ongoing. Waiting for his final decision but itβs being considered, as reported by Polish press earlier in the week. π΄π΅π± #Poland

14th January 2023 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202936It’s not so much I’m calling for his head Sean, it’s more what state his head is in and whether the players are now fully wity him or the whole thing is just getting tired. It can just happen. Like you, I’d like to think it’s salvageable, but circumstances may say otherwise.

14th January 2023 at 6:43 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202933I understand that Sean, and the recruitment has obviously been poor as well. But sometimes when the party’s over, the party’s over.

14th January 2023 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202923Not completely absolving the defenders Sean, but think the whole situation could be demoralising them.
Think we were running purely on momentum last year during that run in without being particularly spectacular. We never scored from open play in any of the finals we were in. It was still a good run but I think it rinsed everything out of what was left of that team and now the jig is pretty much up with it.

14th January 2023 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202918Did we press much in our title winning season Sean? Donβt seem to recall us pressing that much. Think we’ve been pressing less and less generally speaking as the years have gone by. As I say above, I think we’ve lost our fear factor up top and also our midfield shield plus teams are more confident in having a go at us now. You could argue we should start pressing again but not sure our midfield is capable of it. And if we don’t play a high line is Klopp used to playing that way? So there’s no obvious solution to this mess.

14th January 2023 at 5:23 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202915In all truth adlab, even at our best when we won the league a few years ago, I don’t think we were particularly spectacular but we had that fear factor with that front 3, and we had a midfield at that time that was able to dominate possession.
Now our front players are in transition with some new ones in, Mane has gone and others are injured. But the midfield is pretty catastrophic for me. They’ve declined and aged and we haven’t replenished the midfield in 4 years I think bar Thiago. And whilst Thiago has been one of our better performers I’m just not sure he’s suited to us. We either need a box to box midfielder or a workhorse/destroyer. Defensively we’ve not been brilliant either but I think that’s more linked to the loss of protection in midfield.

14th January 2023 at 4:32 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202906Regarding Trent, is the argument that he gained an advantage after returning from an offside position? I don’t know anymore…

14th January 2023 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202903Ed, just bonkers money now being spent on young players with no premier league experience.

14th January 2023 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202892There’s a brief spell when the ball ends up directly in front of Rashford while he’s running just behind it and he’s arguably effectively in possession of the ball at that point even if he doesn’t touch it. That surely has to be taken into account rather than hiding behind “not attempting to play the ball”.

14th January 2023 at 3:42 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202886Let’s be honest, they changed the offside rule years ago to let the game flow more but used those weasel words “not interfering in play” to get round it which was bound to cause controversy beteeen the defending team and attacking team.

I think as someone said, the Royals are privileged but are imprisoned by gold bars. That’s the deal. They are obviously very fortunate to be born into what they have, but then they are also very limited as to what they can do. One can sympathise with that, and we all have our problems. I think it’s regrettable how he has dealt with things because I think such things should be done in private with the family.
As Nine said on the previous page though, a lot of this is rooted in the tragedy of the divorce of his parents and later death of his mother. So Harry has missed that crutch and support in his life. And whilst Prince William has also obviously been through the same thing, because he is much higher up in the succession, maybe he’s had more people around and he’s had more duties to carry out that have kept him busier which have perhaps helped him get on with his life. And Harry maybe hasn’t and sees himself as the spare as he says. As I say I don’t agree with the way he’s gone about all this now, but it seems to me he has lacked support in his life and the repercussions of that are now playing out.

13th January 2023 at 6:17 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202787Clubs are increasingly spending crazy amounts on young players because the market is so competitive now with even the richer clubs now targeting such players. But there’s no guarantee they’ll work out (unless they’ve played in the league). One of the consequences of FFP?

One thing Liverpool could cling to is that if they drop out of the CL & FA Cup, that gives them a clear run in the league with players coming back from injury as the season goes on.

Yes Liverpool & Chelsea Ed. Things can always change, but there’s a real buzz at Old Trafford now, even if you have a few hiccups here and there. Arsenal & City look pretty nailed on. Liverpool & Chelsea have significant injuries and are in transition. Newcastle fading best hope I think.

Top 4 seems a long long way away for both clubs now. Hard to see that top 4 changing at this time. Newcastle may fade, but we’ll see.
