We’re seeing every strand of our season in this one game.

Similar feeling with the Madrid game. Just so poor in so many areas and opposition not intimidated. Can only assume Klopp now planning for a massive clear out in summer and this dire of a season just has to play out now.

Yeh I’m not sure even our home crowd will be enough today nil. Come up against a decent mentally strong team and our frailties are will be easily exploited.

Wonder if Arteta has been piping out YNWA on the Arsenal training pitch again?

Whilst our home form has obviously been stronger, it still couldnโt help us beat Madrid at home. Arsenal are just as good away as they are at home and have been a different animal this season. Not sure what will happen today. We need to keep a few goals clear at all times.

Personally, I think Boehly should appoint all the managers together at the same time. Then how can he go wrong? ๐

“…he bound to land somewhere soon enough there so much movement.”
The whole thing’s a merry-go-round.

Admittedly, probably has a lot to do with Nagelsmann wanting a break until summer so they need a stop gap.

Think they’re going to take their time in deciding who to appoint next after getting the last appointment so wrong. But what if Lamps has a flyer? ๐

Away from home we seem to have absolutely no impetus whatsoever.

Lucky, I’ll explain. At home we’re the 3rd best team in the league. Away from home we’re the 13th best team in the league.

Sean, after 27 games last season, Man Utd had 47 points and were in 4th spot. This season after 27 games, they have 50 points and are 5th (albeit with 2 games in hand on Spurs above them). So on that surface analysis, not much has changed. The positives for them for me would be that there is more of an identity there now and the fear factor is back at Old Trafford. And obviously the league cup too. The concerns for me would be that they have the worst goal difference in the top 8, with them having one of the lowest goals scored and highest goals conceded amongst the teams at the top. So plenty of work still to do.

Would Harry have got the decision had he chosen not to go down on the floor holding his face though? Discuss…

Some fair points Lucky. I get frustrated when people talk about a manager – either crediting him or lambasting him for bringing in a certain player when we don’t really know how much influence that manager had on that player coming. It tends to be the case when a manager is appointed he’ll try and bring in some players he’s worked with before but they actually tend to be few and far between and in some ways you don’t want the manager having full control because finding good players is a different skillset and managers should be busy enough coaching the team day to day for them to also be scouting for players.
An interesting example is Rodgers at Liverpool. He made an excellent start and arguably exceeded expectations. But when Suarez was sold the club blew the money on poor signings and Rodgers never really recovered from that (even if one can still make some valid criticisms of Rodgers himself).
What I will say is this though regarding the manager. A good manager can help drive the club in the right direction. Rodgers almost won the title in his second season. Klopp got to two finals in his first season. Arteta won the FA Cup in his first season. Ten Hag has won the league cup in his first season. Tuchel won the CL in his first season at Chelsea. To some extent you could argue all these managers overachieved in these early successes in relation to the squads they had. And it helped set the tone of the club going forwards – creating excitement, putting the club on the map and so making them attractive to prospective top players around the world. In quite a few cases though, the early success can make the club drunk and they can then blow money on hyped up players. It’s holding your nerve that’s the key.
So for me, the most important attribute at a club is that of the overall set up and that they hold their nerve and don’t get affected by success and hype. They stay true to their tried and tested principles. And from that they don’t mind making brave decisions to either bring someone in or move established managers or players on. You look at the owners at City and yes of course you can’t overlook the money invested. But they are still very good operators nonetheless. Bayern are also pretty good operators. And obviously as you mention Brighton too. These clubs don’t panic if they lose an important player or even the manager. Because chances are they’ve already thought about the successor long before and they have the stability of the whole set up they’ve created. In short the club is bigger than anyone of those. It’s a clichรฉ you often hear but it seldom seems to be practised.

When Arteta came into Arsenal the club had been in the doldrums for a while so there was no immediate expectation. Potter couldnโt come into Chelsea after their recent winning history and spending of all that money and realistically expect to be given patience. It wasnโt going to happen. Heโd also never worked at a big club before so what with all the players coming in it was going to prove a baptism of fire.
This is the point I made some time ago about patience after the club had been winning so much over the last few decades. It was simply unrealistic to imagine you could suddenly draw a line in the sand and now say youโre going to play the long patient game. There was still too much momentum from the Abramovich winning era. You also still have to show evidence relatively quickly as a manager that the players are at least buying into your philosophy. So even in the โpatientโ game you still have to show something.
Big mistake now looking back with Chelsea ditching Tuchel who had worked with big names and was liked by the fans. Potter deciding to take the job also now done him no favours.

Lucky, I would think Boehly would now want someone with quite a bit of big club and big player experience and Luis Enrique very much fits that bill, though maybe there’ll be an interim until summer and Enrique could then takeover.

Luis Enrique not a bad bet at around 10/1.

When a manager praises the players attitudes but keeps having poor results it’s never usually long before they’re gone. I think it was too idealist thinking from Boehly who I think changed too many things too quickly.
There’ll no doubt be a reaction now on Tuesday so Chelsea big favourites now.

Weโre basically in the position now where an F1 team writes off the season and already starts working on next seasonโs car. I suspect theyโll be quite a lot of clearing out to do, even some of the bigger names that arent delivering. Klopp was already basically saying before the game he wasnโt sure which team would turn up today so he must be furious with some of these players deep down but obviously canโt do anything about it until the summer.
