Arsenal have won 9 points out of a possible 21 points from the last 7 league games at the business end of the season.

Assuming it won’t be a 5 year contract this time? π
Can understand the logic of it, Chelsea have bought a lot of young players and you want someone now to develop them. He also has experience of the league at a top 6 club. So you’d obviously expect an improvement. As for Poch himself, I think his strength is coaching a well drilled philosophy that will bring a much needed identity back to the team. At the same time, I always thought his limiting factor, watching him at Spurs, was that the team became too ordered and it lacked some creativity. (He did play as a central defender in his playing days). So probably a bridge the gap manager for me.

Probably Sean, but funny things happen this time of year when the pressures on. As I said though we need to win every game to have any kind of chance.

Donβt think you can predict any game now. So much at stake at both ends of the table.

Well, top 4 was looking very remote recently. Starting to look an actual possibility now. But we still need to win *every* game.

I think, like in all walks of life, the number of truly outstanding people in their fields, e.g. managers, CEOs and scouts, is tiny. Look at F1 and Adrian Newey with Red Bull. Similar with Guardiola in the league. And the top teams will quickly soak up that tiny amount of talent and the rest tend to end up overcompensating by overspending.
The other problem that I think has exacerbated things is that we’re now seeing the ghastly consequences of corporatism in a lot of sports where winning is no longer enough – you have to dominate. This inevitably filters down to the fans who also become increasingly obsessive. The fans of the top teams who are succeeding may enjoy it, but to everyone else, it’s the same teams at the top, year in, year out, unless another billionaire comes in somewhere.

βLooks v good for Inter going into the return leg on their own soil.β
Wonβt it be the same soil at the San Siro again?

Spurs have sacked their interim manager. There’s an argument that Leeds sacked their interim manager (think he was only given from Feb until summer on a flexible contract). And if Lampard had been fired that would have made 3 interim managers sacked.
Can’t be a healthy state state of affairs when even interim managers are getting sacked. Some interesting decision making being made at board levels.

Whilst this season will rightly be remembered for its poor showing in midfield and at the back, I still maintain (like a few seasons ago when we lost 6 home games in a row), that our performance is directly linked to how well our attack is performing. If the attack is in good form, weβll always have a good chance in a game regardless if weβre poor at the other end. But if the attack ainβt quite there, we really really struggle.
There is pretty much nothing in midfield to help us out in the form of goals. No coincidence the return of Jota & Diaz has seen an uptick in form.

Ed, I really wouldn’t worry about top 4. Yes, you have 2 tricky away games next, but after that all your games are at Old Trafford to sides you should beat (only being away to Bournemouth I think). If we have any hope of top 4, I think Newcastle have the trickier run in vs Arsenal and then several sides fighting relegation. But we really shouldn’t tease ourselves. You can’t suddenly start performing from matchday 30 and expect much from the season.

Bit soft perhaps Ed, but the Fulham defender is still clumsy swinging his leg out like that. It’s asking for trouble. In other words, most strikers are going to make the most of that.

I think it’s fair to say Lampard won’t be managing in the Premier league again.

I think the tactical tweaks and return of some players has helped our recent “resurgence”. But as I say, we still lack the players to control a game. Got to sort that out in the summer.

Well, many of the ingredients we’ve had for our success are still there this season. But we just can’t maintain control or concentration for the full 90 minutes of a game has cost us dearly over the season. And that’s the story of this season.
Desperate now for some control in midfield and some new defenders too.

We’ve sort of half turned a corner nil with 3 recent wins on the bounce but our problem all season has been maintaining concentration and performing for the full 90 minutes. We just can’t do it.

That said, we’re exhibiting too much casual play again which has hampered us all season. We struggle to control games anymore, it’s all too gung-ho at times. No doubt what’s on the summer shopping list.
