I can only think the penalty wasn’t given because imo I thought that Onana collided with the Wolves player after he had made contact with the ball. Now you can rightly say that would still be a foul anywhere else on the pitch but at the same time did the contact stop him scoring a goal? I think we had a debate some time ago about whether some penalties were a fair punishment or not and maybe this played into their thinking. Would be interesting to hear the VAR discussion. Either way, the officials are reported as being dropped for the coming weekends games.

As I’ve said before, I think Mount tends to be one of those players who follows the managers instructions to a ‘t’ and stays tactically disciplined and we know how managers obviously love those players. But as a player to help really turn a game? I’m not sure.

They just lack a wow factor for me Utd. Obviously remains to be seen how well Hojlund can do when he comes in.

It’s us who have messed up. Firstly, by not refreshing the midfield early enough. When we failed to attract Tchouameni last season, we didn’t look for alternatives, but you wonder if part of the money earmarked for him was used on Nunez instead.
I think a big problem is we have been purely reactive rather than proactive in refreshing the squad. I suspect MacAllister & Szoboszlai were going to be the only major incomings up until Henderson & Fabinho left. Only then I think have we started looking to recruit others, but it looks like we’ve turned up too late to the party with some of the targets.
The thing is though, there are still deeper concerns there. The idea a new defensive midfielder is going to solve all our issues is I think wishful thinking. Half of me thinks Klopp may just about find a new system/tactic and we could have a reasonable season. The other half of me thinks the jig could be up with the Klopp era, and his cycle is coming to an end. Quite a few departments not right at the club for me.

As he said, think we were playing for the draw at that point. Quite impressed with Chelsea after our spell in the 1st half. Pochs strength is undoubtedly his ability to make a team very solid and tactically disciplined. A while since they’ve looked together like that.

Take a draw after the way that panned out. But what’s a bit more concerning (other than the defence) is as Trent effectively alluded to, we stopped playing after 25 minutes and never really recovered. Another fault from last season still lingering where we couldn’t keep things up for 90 minutes. Let’s hopefully put it down to first game back.

Diaz been in great form. Szoboszlai has a lovely silky touch, looks a lovely footballer. Missed that so much in midfield. Still obviously vulnerable at the back.

A ball over the top is enough to undo us at the moment. However, I think our attack should be a lot better this season. I’ll go for 2-3, but anything could happen really.

Have to say I’m a bit surprised Kane went to Bayern. If he waited just one more season he could pretty much take his pick next year on where he went being out of contract. Now he’s tied himself down to Bayern until 2027. Had he stayed there’d surely been no shortage of top club takers next season. And he’d still have the PL record to chip away at. Seems of a bit of a rushed decision to make as though it was a last chance saloon, when I don’t think it was.
