Agree Mak, Salah wanted the glory there.

Liverpool look like they reverted back to high pressing in the second half. And it’s paid off.

Matip seems to drive more from midfield than any of the actual midfielders.

Closely matched these two sides. Both pretty solid and polished but not particularly spectacular.

Always fancied Juve, even after the 2-0 deficit from the first leg. They’re too polished a side with some very good players to not have a great chance this season. They have togetherness and they have Ronaldo. They were 18/1 to win the CL before the game tonight. They’re now 4/1. Still my tip for the CL.

What is clear this season is that you have two teams unable to fully assert themselves at the top of the league, both for different reasons. So the league will be won almost purely on the psychological battle this year and whilst City now clearly have the momentum they also have fixtures piling up. And admittedly Liverpool, particularly Klopp, I don’t think have handled the pressure all that well.
So in some ways both teams fortunes are in the hands of what the other does. And there are some big moments ahead: after Liverpool play Southampton on April 5th, they will have then played *2* more games than City have. So if Liverpool can get full points there, it will certainly say to City, over to you. That will be a big moment. And the extra game in hand City will have during the run in…will be Man Utd. So lots still ahead.

At least we have the pre match handshake though – so all the players shake each other’s hand out of respect…minutes before they go all out to try and cheat them out of the game. Is there anything more farcical in the modern game??

How did we get to this point with regards to diving? Was it really just foreign players coming in from a different culture? Or is not also the case that fouls have become more easily given over the last decades in order to protect the players? Everything is a compromise. If you decide to prioritise one thing, you sacrifice another. So you need to determine what you want to prioritise – protecting players or less diving? It’s clearly gone too far on the side of the players. So I’d say fouls should now only be given with significant contact/movement from a defender – that may admittedly lead to not giving fouls when there has been a foul, but it would cut out some of the diving.

Banjo, were a far cry from the 90s era when Robbie Fowler actually went up to the ref after coming down to actually admit to him “that wasn’t a penalty!”

It would be a double deterrent though Nil. If a fan did such a thing would they do it if they’d be a points deduction? – and if they still did it in that case, the other fans would then go after them big time for costing the team.

Don’t know how you’d actually ban a fan from a ground. A points deduction would make a lot of fans think again though!

No doubt Banjo, but Man Utd lost the game today because they
– Made a big mistake with the first goal.
– Didn’t convert their chances.
– And then let the opportunity for an Arsenal attacker to run at them very close to goal, which in this climate with soft penalties, is always risky. The soft penalties and cheating are wrong, but both sides have the opportunity to get them. Had a United attacker done similar, would Man Utd complain? Therein lies the problem. Teams/fans accept the decision when it goes their way. So nothing changes.

Banjo, but their failure to convert increased the pressure on them as the game went on. And as soft as the penalty may have been, if an attacker is running at you just a few yards from your goal, any attempt to win the ball is always going to be last ditch and so more risky. So the failure really lies there. That applies to both sides when an attacker is running at you.

But Man Utd not been clinical enough. That’s where the blame lies today, not the penalty decision.

The Lukaku stat that Sky are flagging up regarding his poor record vs the top 6 compared to the rest is why he’s not regarded as that real top player. I think he’s a very effective team player that does a lot of the right things that seem to be drilled into him, but it’s like he lacks that arrogance and off the cuff initiative to bang in more goals.

Nine, it’s an impressive record of Chelsea’s. But a sign perhaps of FFP biting and the game starting to change.
