Have to say, whilst there have been several new impressive grounds built in recent years in the league, there is something about the new Spurs stadium. Looks a real cauldron. It gives them a real identity. Do think that will help Spurs in the transfer market and attracting players to the club.

The title race is purely a psychological battle now. Both sides have wobbled when they’ve been top this season. Thing is – suppose City do slip up on Wednesday and Liverpool capitalise on it and it goes back into their hands. That will arguably change the pressure dynamic and the expectation pressure then shifts on to Liverpool. Funny thing pressure – it can get to the best of them. Let’s not forget Utd blew a 5 point lead in 2012 with 4 games to go.

Still sounds a bit desperate to me when managers bemoan the teams they have to face in a cup run. Would Sarri have still moaned had Chelsea won the league cup? I doubt it. And if it wasn’t for the self imposed shenanigans in the final, Chelsea may well have won it.

Mak, it’s a psychological battle now. It would be a good call for both sides to use their squads in the run in because the other players, particularly the younger ones don’t feel the pressure as much. Remember when Fergie threw on a young Macheda against Villa when Liverpool and Utd were going for the title in 2009 and scored? That’s why it was a good call from Pep to play Foden vs Spurs. Similarly he might not be as young but if Ox is fit soon, could be a good call to throw him on because he’ll be itching to play and won’t feel the pressure in the same way others will.

Had a feeling about today. Liverpool have had a lot of travelling this week.

Adlab, not all down to the manager. But you can’t praise him when Utd were on their run if you can’t criticise him when they go into freefall. As we all said, they should have waited.

Had Solskjaer been in charge longer, questions would now be being asked whether he still had the dressing room. Though they might now get asked regardless. What a stupid stupid decision that was by Woodward – I’d be making him a little less employed if I was Man Utd.

Aussie, there is a psychological factor at play here though as Mak has alluded to above. Going into every game knowing you *have* to win, no matter who you are, no matter who it’s against, does take its toll (and that obviously applies to both sides). Anything could still happen and football games aren’t always won on paper. Even if Liverpool drew tomorrow, it’s not game over. In the 2012 season (when City won it on the last day) Man Utd were 5 points clear with 4 games to go. Psychology affects everyone, even the best. I actually think both sides may trip up in the run in. It’s a question of who trips up more.

Mav, I’m sure his name will start to get linked to some of the bigger clubs, particularly if he keeps progressing in the CL. However I don’t know enough about Ajax under Ten Hag to know if this is just a great run or those something more deeper going on there that’s all down to him. Villas Boas was similarly held in very high regard at one point. Deschamps has the proven track record at multiple clubs and on the international stage.

Nine, just a response to your thoughts at Chelsea – what about someone like Deschamps? – There’s a connection to Chelsea there having already played for you and his general record at both club and international is pretty impressive. He may not play the game the way some like, but he’s still proved adaptable and effective as a manager. You sense in light of FFP and the possible transfer ban Chelsea need to change their strategy somewhat and install someone who can stay there a bit longer than others and build and develop a side. And particularly given the list of top managers available grows ever thinner.

One can’t help but wonder if all these changes will cause teams to have to raise their games. Let me explain what I mean by that. If these kinds of decisions like handball are more readily given, they do arguably help the underdog more by giving them a big opportunity to get back into the game or even win it – particularly if a match is delicately poised between a big team and a lesser team – will the big team start going for it more in the future?

Liverpool have a lot of travelling in coming weeks, with their away CL games followed by away premier league games. To some degree the winning momentum and excitement of still being in the two big prizes helps them, but fatigue will have to kick in at some point. Because of that, one does wonder if Ox will play some part in the coming month.

Good call to play Foden today. Funny how home grown players still play a huge part for all the money spent in the modern era.

City are understandably nervous but Spurs just haven’t really offered much up top this half.

It’s probably a tough call for Pep this at half time. For all the domination, the game is still delicately poised. Does he still go for it or ease back a bit? More careful managed attacks/counter attacks would probably be more sensible.

Fair play to the response of City. But not convinced this game is over just yet.

Spurs make 5 changes, City 3. Still can’t quite work out what will happen today which could point to a draw. It’s a question of who best recovers from the emotion of the other night (even good emotion from Spurs point of view).

Nine, this thread was started by a City fan bemoaning a possible exodus of players next season asking why Pep didn’t play certain players more. I put forward my thoughts on this which inevitably had some connections to Pep’s philosophy and the other night. For the record it was probably my last post on this anyway – I just thought the video was interesting and worthy of highlighting.

Nine, this is a football discussion site. Pep has had much praise for a very long time over the last few seasons. In contrast, there has been a few days of legitimate discussions around his weaknesses. Some people may deem others as going too far. That’s another debate. But that should not stop those who wish to continue in civilised debate. As a poster I have always played the ball in debate, never the man.
