Ajax reminded me a bit of Arsenal under Wenger at times. Technically very very good, but just lacking that physicality to cope with Spurs. Indeed it was almost a metaphor for the game the way the Ajax players collapsed like a set of bowling pins after the last minute winner. They just couldnβt hold out any longer.
Tough final ahead for us. As Mak says above weβre slight favourites and I think we have a bit more flair in attack. However, Spurs have shown themselves to be extremely resolute in this yearβs competition and in Son and Moura, and others, have their own big game match winners. Both Klopp and Poch have pretty mixed records in big games. Does Klopp press high and early on? Not sure – you can imagine a conservative approach for the opening half from both. I doubt either side will want to risk knackering themselves out early on. Getting that balance right in the approach will be key. The way Liverpool went about the game in Munich is probably the best approach to go for: solid, efficient and very effective.

Agree Sean, they’re a more physical team being British. And they tend to play well against us.

Not always the best team that wins this competition, it’s the one with the most fight. That’s why football is the way it is.

Terrible game management by Ajax. But fairplay to Spurs, they just drove through Ajax in that second half.

No doubt Sean, but just wonder in one or two of the games we’ve had this season where we’ve dropped points we maybe should have gone for it more. Don’t get me wrong, huge credit to Klopp in adapting to a more conservative approach this season (which was clearly needed after recent seasons), but just felt at times, maybe he’d almost gone too far that way, though I think he’s probably been experimenting with the balance this season.

HH, I wonder if we should have pressed a bit more in some games this season. It is one of our main strengths, and most of our best performances have come when we’ve pressed high – PSG at home just another example.
I think the timing of the goals last night were perfect – an early goal to get the crowd really excited and getting Barca rattled early on, not conceding before HT, and then two quick goals around the hour mark before we started to get tired and frustrated. I think we all expected Extra Time, but that last goal was just the icing on the cake. I didn’t even celebrate it at first as I was convinced the ref was going to blow for taking it too early or thinking it might be offside.
As regards no Salah & Firmino, part of me wondered today whether their absence actually contributed to our extra determination & togetherness last night. I’ve never seen a better team performance than that.
As for Origi, he keeps scoring in big games and finding himself in the right place at the right time. That is not something to be overlooked, regardless of any question marks that lie over other parts of his game.

Three seasons in Europe for Liverpool with Klopp – and three seasons undefeated over two legs in European competition…Remarkable.

That was right up there with Istanbul, if not better given the injuries we had. Just the sheer team performance of that. You won’t see much better.

I said last week we didn’t have a player for a big game. I stand corrected, we have Origi. His big game record is quite something.
