Surprised he doesnโt start more often Banjo, Moura just gives Spurs something a bit different in attack, an area where Spurs for me have always lacked a bit of personality and flair.

All depends how much Pep decides to adapt his team vs Spurs. The reason why Poch got a result vs Pep last season was because Pep over compensated in the game at Spurs because he was worried about the threat of Spurs in the cauldron of their new stadium. If Pep does have a flaw, I think he does over think/worry at times rather than play his normal game.

Again, Liverpool showed they can dig deep when they need to, even when not on top. Nevertheless we need to start upping it soon.

Klopp looks more fired up than the CL final win

I think Klopp planned to rest some players tonight, was going to play Keita, but because of his injury, has had to makeshift it in midfield.

Liverpool really need to get a grip in midfield.

Better opening to the game than either of the EL/CL finals.

Could Chelsea really not have played that more experienced team vs Utd?

Pagan, I hear you, but would it really hit BT’s subscription rates if they let these friendly competitions go? Just strikes me as greed. If anything, if they did show these games on a free to air channel, it might entice people to then start a subscription. But they just seem so paranoid about protecting the perception that all football now has a price to the point that no window, no matter how small, can be allowed in. (I know they showed the finals via youtube last season, but when I tried it on my TV, the quality was awful even though Broadband is pretty good near me). Be interesting if UEFA do anything about the continuingly poor viewing figures this season.

It really does wind me up that even the pre season and friendly competitions (Community Shield, Super Cup) are no longer free to air. Can they not just let these go for once? Any opportunity to make money. Wouldn’t surprise me if they start charging fans to queue up for autographs soon.

โIt is believed FIFA took a different view because of the sheer scale of Chelseaโs case while City have also sought to prove they have corrected any wrongdoings on signing foreign youngsters since 2016.โ

This was very predictable Adlab, canโt believe they didnโt envisage this problem. The ESPN article I highlighted back in the summer from last summer suggested the following:
โIf we’re going to get into the realms of a decision being too close to call, then VAR will have to adopt a similar method to cricket whereby there is a margin of error for the “umpire’s call,” or “referee’s call,” where an offside is only given if the decision isn’t a tight one.โ
i.e. basically, you give the attacker the benefit of the doubt. It seems even in the advent of better technology, this is a law that still stands the test of time. They should revert back to it.

Interestingly, offside VAR guidelines are to now be reviewed. I highlighted this earlier in the summer, saying that extremely marginal decisions werenโt in the spirit of the game, and in any case, as Pagan pointed out, were hard to measure/prove anyway.

Be an interesting test for Lampard. How does he approach the game? He arguably got exactly the response he wanted vs Utd in the positive way they played but what cost him was a bit of naivety, lack of cutting edge and experience. An important area of his management to look out for this season is how well drilled his team becomes. Itโs no coincidence that the 3 best teams in the league (as well as having great players and managers) are also the best drilled – because the more drilled you are, the less likely you are to make mistakes. Granted itโs still early days and he is waiting for some more experienced players to come back, I just worried a bit in the game at Old Trafford that there just wasnโt enough tactical discipline shown by them. Itโs key he gets this team well drilled and organised in the months ahead.

Donโt buy Chelsea have been unlucky Sean, theyโve played some pretty stuff but havenโt really created many clear cut chances. Man Utd have. Thatโs the difference. Surprised Frank went with the youngsters he did. Too much too soon imo.

Not surprised Chelsea have started the brighter, just worry how clinical theyโll be. Think Utd just have a bit more to grind out the win.
