Thing is, whilst Man Utd raised the bar in terms of professionalism and hard work after the more laid back culture of the 1980s, I think the bar has risen again in terms of the energy levels players today now have, particularly with regards to Liverpool and City.
The relentlessness both sides have shown is unparalleled, which is why both are now breaking points records.

Liverpool obviously the better team this year, but City do still have a bit more panache in terms of scoring goals.

KDB deserves the PFA player of the year this season. Been outstanding, think he’s got better.

What is it with defending players trying to be too cute in their own box?Particularly against a team like City. Just clear it.

Southampton look to have turned a corner. Just 8 points in their first 11 games, 20 points in their next 11 games. Looked down and out after their 9-0 drubbing by Leicester some months ago. Great comeback by the manager to have picked things up.

Another big win, hanging on a bit there at times. Bit of a wake up call.

Steveo, interestingly, the movement of Extinction Rebellion is not so much rooted in concerns about the climate, but in a loathing of colonialism, as is said here by a cofounder of the movement:

But I’m afraid this is the way of the world. The world really is the story of empire and power, and power stretches as far as it can until it hits a brick wall, tending to cause wars in its wake. And even the more benevolent empires need to attain a degree of wealth if they are to survive. So that’s just the way things will be. So I wouldn’t so much blame colonialism or “European toxicity” as the article suggests, though undoubtedly, there has been exploitation that has had an impact. The real problem for me, certainly of the last century, is one of consumerism and of more recently, disposable consumerism, which latterly has caused so much of the plastic waste that’s so devastating. One of the best documentaries I’ve watched in recent years is called “Century of the Self” by Adam Curtis. It’s a long documentary (should be on youtube somewhere), but it’s a very good analysis of why the West took the path it did over the last century, certainly with regards to consumerism and the culture of want, want, want.

Jose loves these challenges and knows the global audience will be that bit higher in such games. Klopp though, has generally been quite reactive in making changes during games if need be, so will quickly shuffle things around if José does another tactical job on us.

I just think Thunberg needs to accept there are no easy solutions, as opposed to demanding them. And as above, the problems aren’t necessarily technological, they’re political along with the “Not in my back yards!”. As I say she would gain more traction if she targeted the more local and individual actions that could be taken.
To change the world, you first start with yourself.

And if we look at how Germany and Merkel are getting on, they are struggling to meet their targets, as the Greens also want to get rid of nuclear power as quickly as possible, leaving them with even fewer options.

The problem with offshore wind technology is that the cost is not going down because the capital costs are going up as the projects move to deeper and deeper water.

But who would they put in now? Do they throw in Carrick until the summer? Or can they get someone more permanent in? Or have they identified any transfer targets this month? (that could allow Solksjaer to limp to the summer and then they can make the change).

The cost and lifespan of offshore wind turbines has also been questioned.
https://www.ft.com/content/f19f4944-a11a-11e7-b797-b61809486fe2And then there’s the poorer people who will inevitably be hurt the most by increases in green levies on their bills and we recently saw how the gilet jaune in France reacted to the planned tax increases on diesel and petrol.
And then there’s the vast increases in output from China & India. Has Thunberg been there yet?
Like all problems, it’s key to look at the long term solutions, not short term panicked ones. Just as in football. Throwing money around in a panicked way as opposed to looking at the long term tends to be strategically disastrous.
If I was Thunberg, I’d concentrate more on local issues like air pollution in cities, with slogans like “everybody deserves clean air”. I think that would gain more traction and sympathy with people than the current campaign which gets quite aggressive at times and only serves to get people’s backs up.

Whilst there may, on the surface, seem good intentions behind the Greta Thunberg phenomenon, whenever I hear phrases or shouts like “We’ve got to do something!”, then short term panicked and ultimately ineffective actions usually follow. A perfect example is the recent admission that such a quick drive to non fossil fuelled technologies has actually increased a very powerful greenhouse gas SF6. More information here:

Playing a weakened side actually helped Liverpool transfer the pressure back on to Everton, and the longer the game went on without a goal, the more the pressure got to them.

Considering his age, he has a different air about him vs the other youngsters. He has intelligence, maturity, composure, looks assured, i.e. he doesn’t look out of place in the first team. Just as he did in the game at Milton Keynes earlier in the season.
