Brian, I think if you didn’t have many standout teams in the league, it would probably be one of the most open leagues in years given the situation with the fans. But there may still be a few surprises and Everton do look one to watch at the moment – they’ve got too good a manager for them not to do well. As someone said I think on here, no crowds do give the underdog a big advantage.

There are effectively no away matches at the moment. I think that’s the main difference the situation is having. As for crowd noise, I have to have it on or else it’s like watching a training match. Can they not pipe some of the crowd noise into the stadium? Got to be better than playing music when a goal is scored, which should be outlawed…

Didn’t see the game but as I said at the start of the season, I didn’t get why Utd were being tipped for the top 4. I don’t see much of a spine there. They’re a good counterattacking team. And that’s about it for me. Adding Sancho would just paper over the cracks. Man Utd continue to lack leadership.

If we’re suddenly busy buying players, do we not need a better reserve goalie??

Sean, it very much looks like we’re going to bring in another attacker, which will obviously be crucial given how congested this season will be.

Threeps, yes it may be that Werner came long too soon for us and it was not right for us at this time. But on the other side of the coin, can you afford to wait for the next Werner to come along? You don’t really want to be scrambling to find someone next summer if one of our front 3 leaves, though these decisions are difficult I admit and trying to keep harmony in the squad whilst ensuring we stay competitive in the long term is tricky.

Sean, maybe, we can only speculate. But if we do try and get Sarr for £30-£40 mill, then there is obviously money there and the club (or Klopp) would effectively be acknowledging that we should never have passed up on Werner.

Sean, yes I was rather concerned that we seemed happy to let the likes of Werner go. There’s several trains of thought about why we passed up on him, but having given it some thought I think it was mainly down to Klopp who felt he didn’t want to upset the harmony and chemistry of the front 3. And I think the owners are quite happy for Klopp to decide such things. That may seem fine on the surface but as you and Ed allude to, somebody somewhere has to think of the future. And whilst you want the owners to have a good relationship with the manager, at the same time you don’t want them to give him carte blanche. In any business relationship, both parties use each other to the same degree, but are our owners using Klopp more? At the other end of the spectrum you have Chelsea who have a board who some may argue are overexerting their reach with the players they sign. It’s a delicate balancing act between the two and both should push each other in the ideal situation. Be interesting to see how it all plays out this season.

Very much fits the bill for Levy – Spurs get to bring back a star player for the season and at a relatively cheap price compared to funding an outright transfer. How well it will work in practice remains to be seen, but a no brainer really.

Strikes me the Swedes have got things right. They had the humility to admit they made mistakes with the care homes, but they have never panicked into draconian measures. Social distancing and handwashing are the only effective things you can really do. Economy not as badly hit as others either. And cases there now much lower. Meanwhile in the supposed other free West, countries are increasingly acting totalitarian in their methods, and seeing what is happening in Melbourne should distress everybody.

Salah looked back to his prolific and exquisite best today, though his totals were still pretty good last season. Even though he can frustrate, he nearly always comes up with a moment of magic in a game. Great player.
Van Dijk on Salah: "That's the media (you guys doubting him). We don't doubt him."

Well, on a positive, Salah is looking more like his 2017/18 spec…though the team does as well 🤣🤣

Awful memories of Fabrizio Ravanelli’s hatrick in a 3-3 opening game with us some years ago…

I think all the hype goes to players heads even more now because of things like social media.

Bizarrely, I think the score line is a significant consequence of no crowd. Defences just too casual. Bit like having a training match on a FIFA computer game. Not focussed enough.

Always forget about Grujic. Thought Klopp liked him. Problem is time flies, he’s 24 now so can’t really be considered “one for the future” anymore. If he’s not deemed good enough now, is there much point holding on to him?

If Keita stays fit and Thiago signs, our midfield goes up a notch…
Thiago and #Liverpool have an agreement. #Bayern demand over 30m euros, while Liverpool's current offer remains 25m. Imo, it would be great to see what the player could do under Jürgen Klopp.
