As I said in the other thread, the authorities are trying to instil a utopian and authoritarian ideology on to the game of football. But footballers arenโt machines and the game will always have grey areas because it exists in something called the real world. Like Lucky, I fully expect there to be too much blow back from people in the game which will hopefully end a lot of this nonsense. After that, these football institutions then need to be recaptured from the bureaucrats that have infested them.

Yes, we’re looking pretty good. Klopp’s done very well to keep our focus and drive so high with no crowd.

Does Robertson get the assist there? Awful touch…

Whatโs happened to our previous points? Was hoping they could be cashed in for prizes.

Completely agree Sean, Arsenal are one of the few teams I worry about us playing because Arteta knows how to nullify us and as you say they carry a threat going forwards. Aubameyang signing a new contract was huge for them. It will also be a real indicator of the season ahead. Win, and weโll be confident of having another good season. But drop points, and it could be a pretty open league. Got Everton not long after too. Could be a real cracker. How long before the Ancelotti to Utd rumours start I wonder?

Cityboy, granted there are several factors at play here, I think psychologically, players are finding it hard to stay focussed without the crowd and games must feel like training matches, hence the crazy scorelines. You need those fear and despair sounds from the crowd to maintain concentration, and without them, I think it takes the seriousness out of it and it’s levelling up the playing field between the smaller & bigger clubs.

Somebody must have done the stats for the amount of goals scored after just 3 games. Must be a record…

Another 6 goal game…this is getting ridiculous if not entertaining. No crowd playing a part again me thinks…

VAR should have come in very gradually step by step for different decisions like fouls, offsides, etc over a longer period of time because such things need careful thought and consideration as to how and when they are to be implemented given the huge grey areas in the game. But it was all done at once which is a utopian and authoritarian ideology thinking you can have a quick fix silver bullet approach to everything and thinking that human beings are machines. Real life isn’t like that…

HH, apparently red cards are no longer competition-specific since a rule change at the start of last season so he was able to serve his one match suspension in mid week in the league cup.

Nothing wrong with a draw against West Brom, itโs what our success is built on…๐

There are a lot of goals being scored this season. Undoubtedly related to no crowds in my opinion which gives the underdog an advantage.

But Utd still need the right recruitment team and management in place to bring in the right players. Do they have that yet? I agree Arsenal and Spurs look in better shape on that front though they appear to lack the spending power of the others. As for Chelsea, theyโre harder to call at the moment. Theyโve always tended to buy well, but Iโm not sure how united the board and manager are and I do just wonder exactly who is choosing these players.

A potential problem for Man Utd here is that all this drama, all these counterattacks and penalties could start to detract from the bigger picture that theyโre still some way off the top. Liverpool went through a similar phase in the 90s where they could look the part but were obviously way off the top. Then youโll have the cries of โwe just need this…or if we could just sign him…โ but it never happened and the roots of the problems lay deeper. You canโt build championships on excitement and drama, but it does help to appease the fans because they have very short memories. And owners know this, which is probably why Sancho was targeted.

Curtis Jones looks a player. Has a wonderful touch and has never looked out of place in the first team.

Koulibaly I assume is French speaking and I believe is French born so perhaps he wants to be somewhere more familiar. Odds of next club…

Apparently Palace are prepared to pay ยฃ25 mill for Brewster. If so, that obviously brings in other revenue and players like Origi may leave too. Has that allowed us to relook at Sarr? Bookies still have us at 5/2 to sign him, so not odds on yet.

Yes Fabinho was very good today. Better at the back than in midfield?

A lot of goals being scored at the moment and only after just 2 games played. Down to no crowd?

Salah and Manรฉ look as good as ever. Bobby looks a bit off his game. Fabinho did very well at the back. Thiago probably didnโt expect to feature and looked a bit rusty. But we generally look as strong as last season. So nice after years of false dawns to be in this place.
