Jose is the light that shines twice as bright but burns half as long. But he’ll always have success because football is ultimately won by the team that makes the fewest mistakes and has the strongest mentality regardless of the type of football played. And that’s what he coaches best – mentality and focus. Would be a great story for Jose if he did it with Spurs…his ego would go through the roof mind. He may even get his first statue 😂

HH, it all seemed to go wrong the moment you put up a post saying how great a time it was for the club 😂

The internationals should have been curtailed this season. I know footballers are paid a lot but they are in one sense victims of the global situation in that they’re being over used to keep the masses entertained.

Just on the topic of young or squad players being given a chance, what are City fans thoughts on Foden this season? Seems to be getting a few more games. Should Pep have played him vs Liverpool?

Pagan, alas, that is indeed the mentality that VAR is breeding. All those years people cried out for technology to come in. They should have been careful what they wished for. Pandora’s box well and truly opened. Can’t see how they close it now.

The term “natural silhouette” is itself subjective, particularly when a player is running with his arms moving around. So it’s a nonsense term dreamt up by a bureaucrat. But if a players arm is coming up as a ball is played in, most referees will feel they have to give it, like the Gomez incident. Indeed the nature of the new rules assume everyone is guilty rather than innocent until proven guilty. So it’s effectively treating all players with contempt. The reaction will keep building to this, and the biggest farce in all of this – is that if you tweak the rules to allow more context to be used when making decisions – you actually end up back to where we were before the new rules came in where a referee judges whether it’s deliberate or not. So we will have gone full circle.

Adlab, as Carra just said, I don’t think we made the most of our start. But talking of Aguero, I thought Jesus’s goal was very Aguero like – scoring when he looked like he had no right to score. Very very good. I agree a fair result in the end.

Sean, I think had we not started as boldly, we would have lost the game. We should always be bold vs City. It throws them…

Mak – but they still have leeway to interpret the rule – and they could rightly argue that Gomez’s arms were in a natural position/silhouette with the momentum he had.

As I’ve said before, it just needs some more bravery from the refs. And that would encourage more refs to stand up to this nonsense. Or else attacking players might as well just keep blasting the balls at defenders to get penalties.

I think a problem for Solksjaer is that he perhaps lacks the self confidence you need to be an authority in the dressing room. You can be a good reader of the game & be very knowledgeable, but if you lack a conviction, you won’t get far. It’s the same in politics. People want a simple message they can get behind. If you look at all the top managers, they are very self confident – they know what they want, and that makes conveying the message across to the players a seamless and easy process. A problem for such top managers is that it can make them a bit blind sided to other areas of the game, but they get away with it because when players buy into a system and identity – that is the most important thing which forms the cohesive team spirit that naturally takes care of all other areas. And I think looking at Pep – though he knows what he wants – he does try to iron out the other areas of concern not by trusting the team, but overthinking strategy and being too clever. It’s why he hasn’t won the CL in my opinion since Barca. But the best managers keep it simple in that sense and have faith in the team to take care of itself.

Poch may not guarantee trophies but he will bring stability, organisation, and better consistency – something desperately needed. Very much agree with Mak above, getting Pogba out the club should be a top priority. I think his mere presence at the club has put a huge strain on the whole club who have never wanted to admit the mistake of signing him at such a huge cost. The board have to stop making such statement signings and support and trust what the manager wants instead.

Mak, it just shows you that these players are always out there. But many clubs fear spending big money on players who have yet to hit their heights, so they prefer to bring in more established players, but ones who aren’t as best suited to the team. And then they flop, but they panic again ever more the next time. It’s like a vicious circle. And we’ve obviously been guilty of it ourselves in the past. But again, whilst a recruitment team can identify good players, you still need the manager to know what fit you’re looking for. Even if a club has a good recruitment strategy, but has an average manager, it still doesn’t quite work. It’s why I would look to Spurs for being the best of the rest this season because if you support a good manager, that’s the right way round. If you try to support an unproven/average manager, as I say, it doesn’t quite work.

Is that 6 in 5 now for Jota? Incredible. Very clever signing from the club.

I’d argue Shaqiri offers more than Minamino. Sadly Minamino looks to be moving into the Keita category where he can look a clever player & you keep seeing the odd glimpse of something, but it doesn’t really materialise. Very happy we held on to Shaqiri. He’s also pretty good at set pieces.

Because Solksjaer keeps going on runs & blowing hot & cold, it’s almost like he keeps resurrecting himself which somewhat relieves the pressure from the board. But then they’ll lose again – then they’ll go and beat a top team in Europe. The human mind is designed to forget – so the losses quickly get forgotten about. I also think that Solksjaer is a yes man who is keeping players like Pogba happy for the moment – when perhaps the board knows a new manager would want quite a few of them out – a bit like Mourinho did. So Solksjaer fits a purpose for the moment and it’s hard to see the board snapping itself out of the cycle they’re currently in.
