“Well your first 11 has been so settled and so strong for 2 seasons”
And in therein lies the problem, particularly when you run those players into the ground. You also can’t keep players too settled now, you constantly have to be thinking of evolving the squad to keep things fresh. Better funding obviously helps, but even so we can surely find better than Origi.

He was constantly in and out the side Nine. Klopp clearly didn’t fully trust him yet. At least he’s now getting games. The more pertinent question to ask is why the squad is so weak beyond the first XI.

Minamino needs to bulk up a bit for me, and adapt more. Started well at Southampton, why unsettle him again? In any case, that area of the pitch is currently the least of our worries.

"Did I get sacked or did I leave by myself?" 🤔
Jurgen Klopp has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that he is set to leave #LFC after their defeat to #LCFC and insists he has more energy than ever to solve the club's problems. 🟥⚡ pic.twitter.com/AZ9qyMwrjQ

I think Klopp has sort of come up against the same problems that happened to Poch at the end of his reign. As Pagan said, you either have to change the manager, or change much of the team to keep things fresh. The signing of Jota was welcome but just felt too little too late. Compare and contrast to City who were able to spend big on squad players like Mahrez & Jesus. Liverpool have had Origi, Minamino, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, and Shaqiri. And Milner’s starting to look past it. Keita is always injured. Thiago has not been great. And then you add in all the injuries to the defence and it’s no real wonder the wheels have come off. What big teams should do is constantly have an eye on the medium to long term plan for the club. Players like Jota should have been signed earlier, with perhaps another similar signing so that they then start to push out the established players and the team then naturally transitions and evolves into a new team over time.
But as reasonable custodians as FSG have been, have they just been happy to watch Klopp win the big prizes on a smaller budget, only really being able to sell to buy? In which case Klopp has been used by the club and the owners will be left to pick up the pieces afterwards and eventually have to part ways from him to shield criticism from themselves, which is what many owners do.

Yes seen it. He’s a very emotional guy. Just think it’s been a lot for him to deal with in recent weeks. In an ideal world, he’d take a few weeks off to get his head together. Not really possible in football. Still be surprised if he walks, but we’ll see.

Me neither Ed. Would seem rather rash just to retire after this. Yes it’s a very bad patch for the club. Unless Klopp has been feeling this way for a while and this is the final straw.

Sacrificing several midfielders for defenders has caused a lot of problems leading us to have both a makeshift midfield and makeshift defence. Surely better to maintain your midfield and just have more of a makeshift or weaker defence than killing both areas?

Klopp should really have taken Alisson out for a while. But I think Klopp’s head ain’t all there either at the moment, and it’s been a difficult time for him personally too. Thiago has been something of a disaster. And our squad players are miles off the level needed for a team supposedly of our stature. A season well and truly to write off.

Not able to see the game, but looks like we’re in freefall at the moment. 8 goals conceded in the last 3 games. Looks like Alisson needed a break to get his head straight after the last game.

They will still get decisions right. It might just take a few days 🙂

No doubt, but the ref saw the contact and player reaction first which spooked him. Any intent was then effectively assumed and slow motion made it *look* worse. Not saying that’s right just giving my analysis on why the ref acted as he did. If there should be absolute justice, the player should also be criticised for going down as though he’d been shot.

Just looked at it Pagan as I hadn’t seen it yet. I think the key problem now is that *any* kind of contact to the face of an opponent will immediately grab the attention of the referee who knows such things can be straight red cards. So the context of such a thing will play second fiddle because referees don’t want to be seen to give potentially serious incidents a free pass. Then you have a VAR review in slow motion which always makes things look worse. So as we’ve seen with other instances with regards to VAR, context often gets overlooked because as I’ve said before, such decisions are made based primarily on fear of not punishing a potentially serious foul. So I wouldn’t put the blame completely on VAR, I’d blame this culture of fear which paralyses thinking, context and common sense. I’m not sure what can reverse such a culture now.

As I said before the game, City are able to be a much more robust side. Even if they have injury problems, they still have a strong squad with their finances and the way Guardiola plays means they will always score easily. That’s a hell of a combination. Liverpool have done very well over the last three years to compete with them. But lose a bit of energy and pick up injuries and it results in a much bigger hit to the team to the point where they’re no longer special anymore.

I sense Terry will become a better manager than Lampard, for a similar reason why I think Gerrard would be a better manager than Carragher, who I think would be a bit too fiery and confrontational in the dressing room.

Jota has also been a big loss. He was papering over the cracks. When we lost him, that was that. One of City’s main strengths regardless of whether they’re in the mix for the title or not is they are always able to score freely. I don’t think Liverpool are quite as robust as that and they need the whole team on song or else they’re much less effective. This is backed up by City being on 47 points last season after 22 games, vs Liverpool being on just 40 points after 22 games this season.

Bale strikes me as a typical Levy signing. It created initial excitement and hype with no big financial outlay but he has failed to deliver. I understand the frustrations with the way Jose has played (which is quite often what he does when he doesn’t fully trust his players), but is Levy still not the root cause of the main problem here? Though let’s be honest, Levy & Mourinho were never a good fit. I think both of them were in somewhat of a desperate situation and were both using each other in a marriage of convenience to try and be in the bigtime again.

Think we’ll have to ditch both in the summer Sean. They seem to be injured more than they play. Keita is almost the definition of flattering to deceive.
