Salah is back in full training, or that is my understanding of it. I guess that means that he’ll start versus City (as long as things go well). Just hope we don’t give him too many minutes against Sparta. I am sure our sports science/medical staff will know exactly what to give him t4o best condition him for what will be a very tiring match against City.
Is anyone else shitting themselves over the City game though?
I’m very worried about it. I have a horrible feeling that we’re just going to be too weakened for them but on paper, we should have a pretty strong team (considering).I’d use this first leg against Sparta purely to rest those who are tired and to help returning players gain fitness.
We should be more than capable of winning the entire tie in the 2nd leg.
Issue I hadn’t thought of is that this is a plane trip that players like Salah really could do without._____________________________

Ya, I am mostly focused on City because of their Pl domination but Arsenal are still here now… Ya, they are the real deal.

It’s so unjust feeling that Klopp will most likely leave here with only 1 PL trophy. That just feels so wrong.
Next year when City are stripped of their titles, we’ll be given them in a manner that we cant celebrate them at all. They will be tainted. Im not saying I don’t want them to correct things but it’s not exactly going to be a proper title win now is it.Desperate for us to get over the line one more time but I think we’ve got too many injuries to manage it.
I’m not giving up but ya…_____________________________

“I’m all for Ange, Tuchel or Poch being considered for the Liverpool job. ”
Nobody would ever accuse you of being a closet Liverpool fan anyway 😛Sean, I’m not as skeptical as you regards Alonso but ya, I’m not full of confidence that anyone can take over from Klopp and do well.
Edwards has turned us down several times but FSG are making one final approach for him now and then they are washing their hands of it.
I’m not terribly enthusiastic about their lack of movement there because they aren’t talking to managers until they get the SD locked in. They want him to choose and look, that’s fine but the one good man for our job is about to get snapped up by Bayern.Tuchel? I’d probably take a sabbatical as a supporter.

“Cm,liverpool were the exact same before klopp came. so many good players for years their previous clubs but were terrible for us. I think some just cant handle the huge change going to utd. ”
I think it’s an environmental issue. I went on about this, but deleted it as everyone knows but look…In a hypothetical universe where I’m in charge at Utd, this is what I do :
1) Club identity comes before everything from here on. Man Utd will play Attacking football.
2) Get a sporting director in ASAP who is of quality and matching philosophy.
3) Players are signed for the style/system and not for the manager.I wouldn’t fire Ten Hag right now, unless someone became available. That someone would suit the club or they wouldn’t be approached.
In the summer though, maybe Ancelotti gets fired by Real. I think he’d be fine to get in and see what he can do with a club that is willing to spend on proper talent.
They wouldn’t just be buying the in fashion players. They’d be buying players that fit the formula. using proper analytics wouldn’t hurt them and a proper SD, like the lad from Brighton might see them go that route.
I guess if they wanted to play a possession-style attacking brand of football, they could get himself and then DeZerbi. The possession-based element isn’t exactly in Utds blood but if they did it in an attacking manner then it’s in the neighborhood and far away from the ghetto that they have been in since Fergie left.
If Utd start making appointments and signings based upon a set ins tone philosophy then they will eventually get there. Then if Ancelotti comes in for 2 years and does ok but retires, they can move onto the next top manager who can look at his inherited team and think “I can really do something with these guys”, instead of the poisoned chalice that’s being passed around right now.
So, while I don’t have to sit through watching them every week, like you CM, Ed and other Utd fans, I just don’t think it’ll help at all to keep going here and hoping.
It’s not like you have a say in the matter but maybe if Utd fans kept repeating that they want their club identity to be the number 1 priority then I think you guys can finally get back on the path to being our great rivals again. It’s a shame because as you all know, we might not be at the top of the game for much longer. How great it would have been to have been mixing it with you guys instead of City, all these years.
We’d have made something special of it instead of one team using money hacks.EDIT : and I am aware that we wouldn’t exactly call Brighton an attacking team. That doesn’t mean that these lads couldn’t do it when they had better players though, as they have shown that they are capable of punching above their weight, mixing it with the best in some metrics that are usually only there for the really top teams.

Mav, it is amazing alright but City are going to eat us alive. We can beat certain teams like this but ya… Just have to hope for a few miracles this week. Magic healing prayers etc etc.

That really is the type of win that makes it look like you’re genuinely in there for the title alright, but I’m not getting ahead of myself yet.
I will say, that game was frustrating. It was boring in huge spells. Mac Allister really stepped up as it was getting on and Gomez winning that corner was excellent.
Delighted for Darwyn. He really enjoyed that. I just hope the lads didn’t injure him by pushing him into the barrier like that… looked like it hurt.
So relieved to have won that game because I never thought we were going to score.

I think the scoreline flattered us in a way but also in a way, not really. It shows class and the atmosphere of Anfield but Southampton were good early on.
Kelleher obviously comes on here and read Nils posts about him and thought “Ya?” 😛
I had heard that Danns was actually a big star in the making and then he shows me why. That second tells me enough to know that he has a career ahead of him._____________________________

(apologies for the meandering post but I think it’s worth reading)
I think I told you that I was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago. A lot of things make sense after, but ya, I can kinda skip elements of text when Im reading sometimes.
Feels a bit weird to bring that up but look, it’s just something that happens. it’s annoyed many a friend 😛I will say that this is a very long time for us to be without Alisson.
I will speak highly of Kelleher as a backup keeper but I know he’s not fully developed. I think we’ve kinda stunted his potential a bit if Im honest.what I don’t get is how a kid can step into the shoes of Alisson at all.
here I am calling him a kid but he’s 25.. wow.(I just looked it up because I thought… we’ve had him a long time).it’s so weird because I kinda feel bad that we’ve kept him from realising his potential. Klopp said it best when he said that “if Ireland has a better keeper…” and he’s right but he’s not playing for a first team except for now.. and he basically won us the carabao Cup.
The thing is, it’s not the first time…Has he actually won more cups than Alisson? I think he might have.
So we’re keeping this guy back, offering him a pretty amazing chance to win silverware.
I nearly said that he wont ever win a league title, but he’s helped us win a few PL matches already.Alisson is the best keeper in the world, right? Like this is generally accepted? .. Kelhher has to come in and cover for this guy. Any mistake can cost us dearly..
he has to face man City soon. he has to step up and cover all these huge games.
I just don’t know how he does it.Nil, Im not going to sit here and tell you that some of these games wont get away from Kelleher, but he is a backup keeper and Klopp might actually be serious when he says that he’s the best backup keeper in the world.
I say this knowing that something will probably happen in the games to come, that remind us about the world “back up”.. but he won us the LC.
I could never stand up to the amount of stress that a backup keeper has to take. These people are truly special. this is your mentality monster.

Adlab, what happened there? Haaland 5 goals!
The last time I remember as player scoring 5 was Fowler on his first start versus Fulham. I think that was also the FA Cup.
Ya, can you imagine that? I think he had come in the game after , where he came on as a sub and stored I think 1 goal.. but then you start, you’re not long out of the mouth team.. and you score 5 goals! This is gonna be controversial but I think that out of all the insanely good forwards that Liverpool have had, Fowler was the most naturally gifted.
I say that as I will also claim that Salah is the best that we’ve ever had. Best and most naturally gifted are not the same thing. If Fowler had Salahs professionalism and work ethic, he’d be known as one of the best strikers of all time in the game, worldwide.
Fowler was ridiculous.
sry for the side note but Haaland scoring 5 was a reminder. what an incredible feat.
as I said, I didn’t watch the game but I saw that about 70 mins, it was 5… I thought to myself that I might see the first double hat trick happen. (well the first that Im aware of.. I’m not gonna count some mickey mouse stuff).anyway congrats Adlab. I wont promise to be kind about your club but I’m never aiming to offend you or the other City lads on here.
see you soon I guess. March 10th.
I think you’re going to beat us.If pep has an ounce of sense, he’ll go brute force on us. He tends to voer-think things though, so I’m hoping for that.
here’s to us having some players back. Not even sure what midfield we can actually have.
its really crazy how many injuries we have. We actually had ma good selection of players but 12 senior (mostly key) players out…Sean will be in quick with the agreement that I’m not sure we can do it.
anyway enough waffle. congrats lads.
its kinda cool to see the big teams taking the domestic cups seriously again._____________________________

Are you thinking of the 31st of March? As in when City play Arsenal?
We have City on the 10th. I hope that’s enough time to get a good number of the lads back but I worry that it’s a week or 2 too soon. Jesus, it just feels very soon.
We will probably have to beat City this time too, which I worry big time about. I’m not entirely convinced that we can do it if we had a full-strength team, maybe.

26th February 2024 at 8:08 am in reply to: Week 26 Carabao Cup Final Special 2024 and Premier League #212816Morning everyone.
I just thought I’d ask a question of others on here. As I said last night, I got the feeling that Caicedos tackle was worse than I first thought.
I wanted to put the question to everyone who’s willing to answer.
Should it have been a straight red/I didn’t think so live but after seeing it back, I do now think it was a straight red. So my question is, why didn’t they at least review this in a significant way?
Of course if you all say it wasn’t a red, then of course I’ll get my answer that way.

As for ytour last post. The funny thing is that I don’t think it was media hype at all. This summer (until the latter stage) felt like a compete disaster to me. I didn’t need to hear any of the nonsense babbling of sky to be fearful.
what we have seen is delayed but all the same good action from the people in charge of transfers Klopp’s genius. Klopp’s genius can always put a good spin on things, and we’re going to see a noticeable lack of “luck”, or it’s neighbour when he leaves.
We’re going to suddenly remember what failed transfers are like again.
we’re going to see players not really giving everything again.I say this before we get a replacement but the odds are against us there.
There are no other Klopps out there. Ya, maybe Alonso will come to us and continue on his trajectory. or maybe he’ll be a one season wonder, or go and be this unstoppable force somewhere else. The point is that what we have now is special and rare, and we’re likely to not have a manager like Klopp again in our lifetimes.

Ya, I was looking for clarification on what you meant by that repeated phrase though. “no casual please” is very non-specific, but luckily you did clarify it a bit at least.
I will say that I guess I just disagree with you. I don’t feel he’s ever just phoning it in. We’re a bit too used to having the worlds best keeper in goal though, I think. Other keepers make a lot more mistakes or make fewer brilliant saves.Kelleher has been brilliant ever since he stepped in for Alisson IMO. I don’t see what you’re seeing in these games where he’s helped us walk away with all 3 points, or a cup.
I know you said this before the cup part, I am not going to suggest otherwise mate, it just fit the sentence 😛I said before that I understood your reservations though, as he has had games before this batch where he hasn’t been at his best. I guess we’d put the reasoning down differently is all.
anyway, we won the LC. now we have to hope to get the lads rested up for the FA Cup and to hopefully have 1-2 back for that.
We really are going to need to start seeing players returning from injury, not just going out on it.Looking at Gravenberchs horror tackle from Caicedo again, I am worried that he’s done his ankle ligaments. I’m awaiting the worst there.

25th February 2024 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Week 26 Carabao Cup Final Special 2024 and Premier League #212813Nil, I dont think it was just Sky. I for one thought we were cooked. The last 10 minutes of the 90 were chelsea rising up. It was only fair to think that with their better bench options, they would do better in ET but…
