Adlab, I was frustrated with the ref initially but all in, I think they got pretty much all decisions correct. As a Liverpool fan I was of course arguing that this or that was or wasn’t but if I were watching this as an unbiased fan, I think the only thing I’d complain about is the time it took them to decide things but I don’t mind the time, I prefer accuracy.

If we were only slightly fortunate to win according to you then we obviously battered them 😛

Liverpool really are made of frustrating, yet incredible stuff. There’s so much room for improvement over our 90-minute game but we’re hard to beat int he last 15.

We didn’t exactly light it up but we deserved to win, IMO. If we didn’t have Alisson then maybe that wouldn’t be the case. A great game from him, a decent enough game from Van Dijk, Trent and Elliot after he came on but some definitely need to improve.

I think a bit of time on the bench for Darwin is in order. I don;t think it’s all about home or away, he was just awful. I don’t think our midfield was very good either though. I’m not entirely sure what I’d point to as being the key problem. Playing at too low a tempo, probably being the main issue.

How was it not a yellow? Liverpool were breaking and he’s cleaned him out of it, with no chance of winning the ball.

Here I am thinking hmm maybe it was a penalty against us, trying to force my bias aside and then I read this.

well… That inability to break teams down is showing itself. Salah has been so isolated out there. The one time we looked like we might score was when he made a run-in.
Endo is having an absolute mare. He’s got some adjusting to PL pressing to do yet.

Not sure what Klopp can do here, or what he should do. We have a few who arent at the races at all but maybe he should hold off on any half-time changes and give them 10 minutes after a bit of a teamtalk.

My eye is on Endo and Nunez to improve in 10 or get subbed.

That save earlier from Alisson was amazing.
As for the penalty, I first thought Klopp was frreaking out about Van Dijk’s challenge and was telling him to zip it, that it was a peno. Of course, after seeing the Endxo foul again, I realised.. What is weird is that the ref looked at it so many times. It very clearly is a foul. I mean, both were, we’re just lucky that one came before the other.

Kelleher has barely played Nil. He’s been on the bench too long IMO but he’ll definitely not settle down if people are going to be freaking out about it to him.

Now, you have only said this on a forum , so it’s grand like but we all saw his mistakes. There’s a lot of pressure on him due to our defence still needing a bit of improvement (even if its better this season) and ANY keeper looks like rubbish compared to Alisson.

Adrian is not the way, I do know that.
Let’s just hope that Kelleher feels settled today, as you can see the anxiety in him at times. Another cleansheet today now please.

Excellent post there Sean. I see where you’re coming from with regards to not expecting a title challenge from us. I do think we’ll have plenty more potential spills alright. We’re not as solid as we might need to be at the back (Alisson keeping our goals conceded way down is a luxury), and more surprisingly we’re struggling to break teams down at times. Adding goals from range t4o our toolkit helps with that. It’s good to have that in the minds of the opposition but again, you can’t rely on it to get you wins week in and week out.

I’m tipping Salah to break his mini goal “drought” today. I mean, for him…
We have got to start performing better up top. Nunez to not get caught offside so much and to get his chances on target would be great and for Diaz to gain that extra 5% sharpness back, after he’s settled back into the rhythm of things (few weeks post-crisis and all).

Sean, even though I totally get where you’re coming from and I do not say this with bags on confidence, I think we’ll put in a title challenge alright. Maybe that gets as gut-shot today, who knows.

As for what you said about Utd, so spot on man. All of it. I don’t really watch Utd anymore but I know the players, what they re like. I hear what happens and I sometimes see highlights but it’s a very similar story now and surely it is finally time for them to look at the players who are creating this revolving door of managers.
It must be maddening alright, to have someone like Rashford who is out of this world when he bothers and then totally useless for huge spells.
If a player is trying like Darwin, I am mostly ok with it. If they can’t be arsed though, it’s like that talent that you know is there is an extra weight.
As for Maguire, I felt pretty bad for him there after seeing how much shit he was getting. It goes well beyond where it should. Some things need to stay at a banter level. Fair dues to him though for not giving in.

I nearly got the team I asked for. Konate starts on the bench. Quansah is a pretty good up-and-coming talent, with decent current ability. I would still have preferred Konate, as he’s perfect for what we need there but I assume Klopp had good reason to go easy on him.

Some interesting matches this weekend. I was going to say “not from a betting perspective” but Villa and Everton to win? Might be worth a pop.

Ya, it seems so long ago now. Liverpool had looked to be headed for disaster in the midfield area and now I’d say it might turn out to be the strongest midfield that we’ve had under Klopp.

As for Spurs, there’s a lot going in there that has led to this. New exciting manager, Kane gone (how will they cope!?) and then when they were raking in the points, the media had a new darling project and I don’t really blame them, they can only write about the other stuff so many times.
Let’s see how they recover, as they get the really tough games behind them.

Utd would get a lot more positive attention if they played a style of football that drew attention. eventually, the results will get them more notice of course, and they aren’t far from drawing these kinds of questions from the media.
Beat us on the 17th and I think that might be the tipping point.

Keeping Konate fit is so vital for us from here. I think we’ve got to put absolute priority in getting a CB in January. They don’t have to be a world-beater but they’ve got to be able to cover Trent’s roaming role, for when Konate is out and he will be out a fair bit.

For now, we do have Konate, who I rate incredibly highly.
The midfield … I want to ee Endo develop further and although I hate to leave Gravenberch on the bench, I think we should start Mac Allister (if he’s available). He is finally getting to play in the 8 role from here I guess, so we’ll see more and more from him as he settles in there for us.
The rest pick themselves, I guess there’s a chance Nunez won’t start but I think I’d give him this game and see how he does. Sean highlighted it and I’ve said it myself, we’re so much more dangerous-looking when he’s in the team and that doesn’t really rely on him actually scoring goals, because he’s pulling defenders around the place. He changes around the place and honestly just terrifies defenders.

So, although I think there’s a chance Klopp might go for Gakpo, this is the team that I would pick.

Cheers Mikus, and ya I never thought we’d miss Mane that much as I was too busy salivating over Diaz’s potential. This season I’d say he isn’t quite there but…. fair to say why he isn’t at the top of his game yet. I don’t think he’s been poor but you’re right, he is not much of a goal threat and even less so this season. I think he might be cutting in a lot less now.

I wouldn’t miss Mane if Nunezz scored more. I don’t want to go on about him but he’s not reaching his potential, yet. He is a fantastic impact player for sure but he’ll never come good if we don’t start him a fair bit. You can see that there is a top class player in there if he can get out of his own head and learn to play more instinctively.
he’s constantly getting caught offside because he’s too eager and he’s missing the goal why? because he’s too eager. He’s got this anxiety going the whole time.

I really hope that we don’t give up on Nunez and ya, I couldn’t guess what role Gakpo is playing but as frustrating as he can be, he’s got a lot of quality, so when he’s on form he does very well. You just don’t play him in the pitched battles. He’s just not that type of player.

It’s going to be very difficult for us to keep Salah out of isolation though. Trent is no longer bombing up the wing in behind him. He’s cutting in and pushing into midfield, so Salah is basically isolated out there and he’s kinda stuck laying the ball off on the edge of the box. No complaints as he’s so good at it but he’ll get fed up of this eventually.

Ya, I’m not sure if we have the squad either. I am very confident in our first 11 or slightly beyond that but we’ve got a few injuries coming in and you’re already wondering a little. Ok, one of those injuries is unfortunately our world-class keeper, so we’re in trouble no matter who comes in, especially considering how much we rely on Alisson. Matip then is basically out for the rest of his contract, which is sad. Konate for me is a brilliant player though, but like Matip he can get injured a bit. If we run into more trouble there then what do we do? It doesn’t take long before we look a bit threadbare.

A good question and I’d have answered it but I didn’t want to annoy the decent chelsea lads on here. Over the summer, Chelsea and Liverpool battled to sign a few players, with Chelsea winning the signings and Liverpool “winning” the making Chelsea pay more game. That is really only a silver lining, as it was quite embarrassing for us and it made things look quite bleak.
You know how that ended up though. Liverpool somehow went on and had a much better summer transfer window than Chelsea but at the time, it was just non-stop toxicity from Chelsea fans online.
You couldn’t go to a comments section without encountering some really obnoxious types. That isn’t a reflection of Chelsea fans on here or TT.

as for Utd, you guys definitely are a threat. You’re only 3 points behind City. I do in a weird way still consider Utd to basically be further behind because they are going through a rough patch right now, where-as Utd are struggling to find their identity. City will storm back and probably win the PL. If Utd keep winning while they re looking for a system that they all fit into then they are buying themselves space and time to get there. So, I’m not writing them off. I think they need to start recruiting players based upon the old ideals of the club though, but that’s for the summer.

She makes a particular effort to be objective regards other teams and at times you could mistake her for a Liverpool fan, were she not partially disgusted by her own words.

Interesting results. I’m pleased that Utd beat Chelsea. I don’t think a Liverpool fan needs to explain why he’d support his nemesis for one game?
Well, I’m not going to but… Liverpool came in with another limp display-victory. They say it’s the sign of a title-winning team, I say it’s the sign of a kick up the arse.
We weren’t “lucky” today, as such but we can’t expect to win every time like this.

I said this the season before and also the season when we won the PL. I was wrong then but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong now of course. It’s just a bit much and there’s something not entirely right within that team and besides injuries or that defensive cover issue, I don’t see exactly what the issue is.

I gotta say that for a side with as good an attacking selection as we have, we can look a bit tame and out of options. Are we not making enough runs? Is Salah isolated? Is the midfield not playing to a high enough tempo?
Lots of questions but the results suggest that I don’t know what I’m watching.
